Dizzy Wrestling with getting my sound and the vid using the Encoder on SM to work!

I have wrestled with this since I started SM last year. I have tried so many settings, finally thought I had the setting that worked (not the one SM suggests) and, STILL, I get a lag like you are watching a Godzilla movie! This is not good! What happens is, I start out OK, but, as the time goes by and I am on (not even 20 min) the audio slows down and starts lagging behind the vid! So, I will have my mouth moving..nothing coming out, then about sometimes 7 seconds later (maybe I am doing live radio or TV and don't realize it! LOL) the words are heard, but I am obviously not making any movements! LOL The guys mention this to me, I acknowledge, sign off, then sign back on, it is ok for a short short time, then degrades again! I have the fastest cable package my provider has: I have close to 8mpbs or whatever it is called upload, my computer is about a year old, dual core, 4mb of memory, Win7, using iE8, Microsoft LifeCam Cinema (sometimes I use the mic on the cam and sometimes I use a usb Logitech) and it makes NO difference! Lag Lag Lag! I seemed to have luck when I set the encoder to 20 fps on the vid and 20 on the audio and upped the bandwidth I believe to 650 since I have a fast connection. That worked for a few days, then, bam..back to lagging again.

It drives me nuts, I know it drives the guys nuts, and I am sure it has cost me viewers who would have done a show since I look ridiculous!

Anyone else have this issue? I have visited other girls rooms and they don't ever seem to have the audio lag issue I do! SM *suggested* settings do NOT work to fix this problem I am having.

When searching the net for this issue, I did run into it could be my Codec settings within my cam? I have tried slowing down the fps on the video and keeping the audio at 20, but, I still get the same issue. Plus, it doesn't matter anyways, the encoder seems to try to match the audio to whatever video rate you choose. I can see also when it is lagging without visiting my room in another browser. I just look at th encoder and see it is a few seconds behind the vid rate!

Anyone who knows how to address this issue, or had it and fixed it, I would be forever grateful!

    Thanks for reading.

I'm sure other people will be helpful with this than I would be because I'm not too good with technology but have you looked at your CPUs? If it's really high then it's a sign that the encoder is too much for your computer to handle. I think there's a way to fix it though if you buy more....ram, maybe?

i just got a message from SM that said this:

    GETTING DISCONNECTED USING THE ENCODER

If you are getting disconnected while streaming using the HD Encoder, we may have a solution to your problems. If you are using the 3.2 version encoder, then you should switch to the 3.1 encoder.

    Steps to switch:
    1) Are you using the HD Encoder and experiencing more than an average number of disconnects while streaming? If yes, proceed to step 2.
    2) If you don't know which version you are using, launch the encoder and select "Help" > "About Flash Media Live Encoder" option.
    3) If the result of Step 2 is version 3.2, uninstall it using your normal Operating System (OS) steps to uninstall software programs.
    4) After successful uninstallation of version 3.2, from your Streamatemodels.com dashboard navigate to the top right menu option "SUPPORT" and select "HD Encoder" from the list.
    5) Open Step 1 of the instructions and navigate to the download encoder section on the right and select the appropriate OS for your system.
    6) Follow Adobe software instructions to install.
    7) As necessary, follow Step 2 of the encoder instructions (Configuring the encoder).
    Stream as normal.

ETA: i haven't even been on SM lately and have never had issues with the encoder before. so they may have just sent these to all the girls. i just thought i would throw this out here just in case you didn't get one.

buying more ram helps. I bought more ram yesterday and my CPU usage went from 40% generally when I use the encoder down to 15-20%! And I have my settings to 20 fps and 1200

the problem with the Media Encoder is that it is Flash, which consumes a lot of memory, just as you say, the longer is it on, the more it consumes.

For using that afwful thing you actually should have a PC with at least double processor and 4 gig of RAM.

    Hi

If you mean dual core when you say double processor, my computer is one! LOL I do have 4mb of ram installed, which I think might be part of my problem if this thing is a resource hog. Even on my laptop that is a quad core it lags. I even tried hooking directly to the modem thinking it was because I was on wireless, but, that didn't help either!

I did get that email about the other encoder, but I am not getting disconnected continually, although I have been disconnected! That was my next thing to try. But, I am thinking, if this thing is like driving a 74 Lincoln, no wonder the audio lags! It's zapping everything I got! I don't even run any other programs when streaming! You would think they would make a more streamlined product.

Have u tried using Google Chrome instead of IE8, as IE8 is also a terrible memory spoiler?
