    Default Phamacology career

I will try to be as brief as possible...

    I. Went to college in 99 right after hs. Penn state, nt the main campus. Anyway, I had no direction in life and even tho I went to yrs, I do not have an associates. I have about 3O credits. I'm not sure what classes will transfer, I basically did gen edclasses atthe time jaws interested in kinesiology. Now? Not so much. I have
Workedon and off for past eleven yrs for an eye doctor, and also dance.
My office closed down, and it got me to thinking.....maybe school? I would need to start at. My community college most likely as it really IS affordable . I could finish up what classes I needed to get my associate sand then move forward. Only 3colleges offer pharmacology where I'm at. My brothers a pharmacist has been for ten yrs. whenever I go over ialways am reading his text books he still has from then and pharmaceuticals intrigue me I don't know why
anyway, I'm not getting any younger, I'm 30. Boyfriend and I will be moving in by end of year,if I was in school. He would be fine , knowing my time and funds would be limited for awhile. He's the type that always stays busy anyway. Question is: can I do this? I know so many people do. I have no children or plans to have any and I want more out of life than perusing the want ads for office wor. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just I want more. I feel directionless , but I'm starting to find some hope.

To all you ladies who went back to school a bit later in life, and worked, how did u do it?am I biting off more than I can chew? Thanks for any advice.

Of course you can do this! It is the best possible thing for you to do! If there is an itch in your mind to do something new, and you have open opportunities, go for it!
I am in a similar boat, I have been out of school for several years and just recently started back, also in the medical field. I work full time but luckily my class only meets once a week so I think it will be manageable.

It's all about learning new habits or maybe relearning old ones, like studying and managing your time. I don't ever study, but my teacher recommends that we set aside a couple hours every day to study so I will probably have to readjust my learning strategies. It is an adventure and I am ready for a change like you.

Don't take no for an answer, and don't accept excuses that will hold you back. You can do this!

How are you with chemistry? Pharmacology is not an easy degree but maybe what you need is a challenge. I study vet Ill be 34 when I graduate. Its fucking hard and I suck at chem so the thought of doing pharm makes me wanna vomit. But I know some people love it. What you wanna do right now is research lots of careers, take your time, don't rush into something. Talk to people in the industries you are interested in and ask lots of questions. Ask yourself what you are passionate about. Going back to uni at this age is frigging hard. Every aspect of your life will be under pressure, but it is so worth it - if you are doing something you love. Thats the key. Make sure its something you are willing to give 150% to. I nearly got divorced from my husband due to the pressure Im under because of the degree but at the end of the day honestly right now its the most important thing in my life. In order to succeed I have to make it so. Im just trying to stress to choose something that means a lot to you. Not to scare you though. It is so rewarding to do uni when its something you want and not some random degree you just chose. To have a purpose in life. Its great motivator for dancing too because you actually have a goal. You can definitely to it girl! and you won't regret it, but just do your research first and make choices wisely so you can commit to your goal.

DO ITTT!! Pharmacists MAKE BANK, girl. Honestly, I wish I was not so opposed to the drug industry -- I wish I was not this hippie-whole-foods girl that I am because I would rip up that pharmacy school and make "legit" six-figure income. Everyone would be oh-so-proud and what not.

Anyway, yes, do it. Professors LOVE older students because you have a tendency to... do what you're supposed to do. You can handle it. Pharmacy school is not that hard, I hear. You just need to work hard to GET IN, but once you're in, you're in. You don't even have to make good grades. You can make all Cs, get your PharmD and start earning the cashola.

^ pharmacy school is very hard and is comparable to medicine or veterinary...but that doesnt mean she can't do it. Its not just about learning how to dispense medicine. Its advanced anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, etc. She'll be expected to draw chemical compounds, memorise lists and lists of drugs, how they work, interactions. She'll learn about every human body system and how disease affects it and how the drugs in turn affect the disease. The coursework and breadth of knowledge is probably at least 65% of a medicine students. She just has to want it bad enough to work bloody hard. My guess is she'll be putting in at least 3 hours nightly study outside of class time to pull off Cs. Medical studies are far more demanding than most other degrees.

BTW Jenn - not by any means saying you can't do it. But just saying if you do, you should be bloody proud because it is very difficult. You are lucky you have a brother in the industry that can help you with your questions and maybe hook you up with a job after you graduate. I certainly think its a great career and a good industry if its what interests you.

My network is alot of Nigerians who are all about figuring out the best careers that will give you the best money. Many of them go to pharmacy school. From what they say, getting in is hard but actual pharmacy school is not. But of course, this is subjective! Most likely, they meant pharmacy school is not as hard as what it takes to GET INTO pharmacy school.
