Default How To Find A Roommate?

I've decided I share expenses with someone in order to save more towards school loans, but I have noooo idea where to look for a decent roommate. My college is small and most students live on campus, live with parents for free, or are married and own a home. CL is iffy... I've had both good experiences and bad, and I'd like to try something else.

    Suggestions?

Does your college have a housing center? My little college did, and they were able to connect me with another student looking for off-campus housing.

I also had some luck with Facebook Marketplace to find a roomie in my area.

    Good luck!

I'm not sure about the housing center, but I don't think so. Will look into it. I posted on Marketplace, so hopefully it brings me someone decent!

I would just check with residence life. They often field calls from people like you asking for help, so they may be able to hook you up.

Do you have any fellow college friends who might be into the idea? Friends of friends? You could always go with good ol' fashioned flyers. CL is kinda iffy, but if you have a good screening process before signing anything, it could work out.

The most important thing I feel I should say though is don't rush into anything! Hang out with them a few times in social settings to get a feel for them. Ask important questions like what their schedule is like, are they party people, what do they think is fair in regards to chores? I know you might feel weird doing this, but TRUST ME, if you've never had roommates, especially random ones, you NEED to know these things before jumping in or you will hate life for the next year. I spent the previous 2 years in a living hell of rotting garbage and being kept up until 6am when I had to work at 9am; I had to wear flip flops around my own house because of the sticky party-punch mess that never got cleaned up. You don't fully comprehend how other peoples' living habits can really affect you until you're screaming inside about the fact that the refrigerator door won't open because somebody spilled something inside and then just walked away.

Not to be alarmist or anything, but living with people can really suck, so be careful who you choose if you're just looking in random places.
Don't try to win over the haters. You are not the Jerk Whisperer.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

I've moved about eight times in the last two years, so I've had plenty of roommates....the good, the bad, and the ugly. I love living alone, but saving money to put towards school loans is more important right now. I've been semi looking for two months now and all I've gotten were people trying to pay less and people that were too old for me to feel comfortable living with. I've asked around a bunch, but no luck.

And ughhh yeah... I've had messy party roommates before and they're usually the worst. I actually preferred the naked roommate with the naked friends over the messy party people... lol.
