Default Why do customers *really* think I moved here? Why don't they believe me?

Quick query- So I didn't grow up in the state where I'm living/dancing right now...often when I tell a customer I'm not from here and sometimes the convo goes something like this-

Customer: "Why did you move to [this state]?"
Me: *shrug* "I dunno, just felt like relocating I guess. Got sick of living in the place I grew up for 20 years."
Customer: "Liar!! Tell me the REAL reason!"
    Me:

From a customer POV, what incentive would a dancer have to lie about this answer?
Is it typical for an adult to just move to another random city for no spectacular reason or am I an unusual case?
Is this some kinda generation-gap thing I don't know about? (most of my customers are middle-aged or 'boomers)
Are guys expecting/wanting me to say I'm on the run from the law, running from an abusive boyfriend, or something "interesting" like that?

I don't know why it bothers me... I guess I just hate being accused of lying, particularly when I'm unsure what my motivation for that would be, and there is no other answer I give to any other question where guys are as equally INSISTENT that I'm lying as this one. Peculiar.

It may have nothing to do with the fact you're a dancer and everything to do with the possibility you moved to a town they might be wishing they could leave. I have asked a lot of immigrants over the years why the hell they chose RI as the place to live. Just tell them you had friends in the area who convinced you to move there.

Quite possibly because a majority of the ladies have ''false stories'' made up in order to build wall around themselves and keep personal life separated from their dancer life. One detailed answer of ''college'' leads to what you are studying (could narrow down building classes are in).....could lead to staying in dorm question. So, when provided with a simple, honest answer the customer may just feel you are keeping the wall up and being evasive. They want to the ''truth'' from you so that they can feel special knowing info about you that others don't.

Death of a loved one, divorce, losing your job, and moving are generally considered the most stressful things your typical person goes through in life. To move on a whim, and put yourself through the cost, work, and stress of moving, just out of boredom, is a bit odd to me. But I wouldn't call you a liar over it.

Actually hon I lie about everything when talking to customers, so the ones that just assume we're all lying are the ones who probably say this stuff.

Yeh I mean, moving 3 states away was stressful,(5 of us in a pickup truck plus all mine and my partner's worldly possessions in the back!) but the city i used to live in just sucked. (some of which I guess I could attribute to the economy tanking- high cost of living, high crime rate, few jobs, etc. but really what SC customer wants to sit around and talk about the economy?). Then again being a young unmarried child-less person who didn't have any kinda serious "career" and wasnt going to school at the time when I moved and didn't have some huge house-full of expensive crap to lug around, I imagine I had a comparatively easy time of it. And actually, I've moved around a lot and always loved moving... I love fresh new apartments and yards.

Anyway, I was just curious cuz I got one of these guys yesterday who questioned no other answer I gave except the moving one, and like immediately snapped back with "LIAR, tell me why you moved here FOR REAL." It was just weird.

Yeh it's funny, any place you live in this country you'll find someone dying to get outta there. Small towns are boring and stifling, big cities are polluted, expensive and dangerous...

The city I moved from is huge and crowded but the city I live in is like medium size, but still a legit "city" with all the amenities of most other cities. I rather like it.

Maybe they want to seem insightful. Proving that they see through the story...too bad it makes them look like morons when it's the truth.

It reminds me of this thread: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...onal-questions

Customers complain about dancers getting too nosy. I know I'm irritated by customers getting too nosy!

I'm extremely annoyed by "non-believers" who swear that I'm full of it.

I love the line of questioning that goes something like this:

Dude: So what else do you do?
    Sophia: (state the truth)
Dude: Yeaaaahhhh right.... hur hur hur..... what do you really do?
Sophia: (repeat self, ask dude if he is deaf)
Dude: No way, you don't expect me to believe that....
Sophia: (underscore the fact that I don't give a fuck what he believes.... ask for a dance)
Dude: I dunno.... riddle me this, if you're telling the truth then tell me (he asks an obscure question).
Sophia: (correct response given.... anger-level rising)
Dude: Okay, okay... well how about (more obscure question).
Sophia: (anger level up, up and away) "I can tell you more about that in the VIP room. I don't like talking about personal things on the floor. *wink*"
Dude: I dunno, you still haven't told me the truth yet..... *smarmy glance*
Sophia: (I either walk away, tell him that my dances are so good he won't remember what we were talking about anyway, or make fun of him for playing 20-questions--- and then tell him since now we're fully acquainted I'm sure he is ready for a dance)

The fact of the matter is that I cannot deal with the logic-fail of telling the truth and being accused of being a liar. WTF is wrong with guys sometimes?

I get/got that all the time too.

    Person -"Where you from?"
Me -"Originally from Phoenix, lived in Vegas for 8 years, now WB"
Person -"WHAT?!!! Why the hell would you leave Vegas/Phoenix to come to WISCONSIN?!!"
Me -"Just needed a change of scenery..something completely different"
    Person -"You're crazy...."
    Me - "Yeah..maybe I am...."

I don't even mention my home states anymore...it's always the same conversation.

I also want to add that customers don't believe me when I tell them I don't have kids, when I tell them what schools I attend/attended, when I tell them my nationality, when I tell them what state I'm from, when I tell them my age, when I tell them for the umpteenth time that I don't have contact info for drug dealers, and when I tell them why I dance.

All of these things are so irrelevant that quibbling over the "truth" is pointless.

I'm here to fulfill your fantasy. The strip club is an absurd place. What's true and what isn't true should be inherent.

Custies! Get wise... you are in a strip club. You're not interested in my autobiography. I'm not interested in being interviewed. Make some small-talk and buy some dances/rooms. Now can I get naked for you or what?

Most people can't comprehend moving somewhere just to move somewhere - like lestat said. I completely get it, but I'm restless. If I didn't have a relationship tying me to my current city, I have an entire list of places I would totally move to and from in the next few years. That's just the way I am - I want to explore being in different places, and not just in a vacation-y sort of way.... But I understand that not many people are like that - However, I don't know why other people seem to think it's just totally insane and not possible lol

I get a version of this a lot: I get to say I came to Indiana for school, but when they ask WHY Indiana if I'm originally from Wisconsin, I just say "Cuz I wanted to get out of Wisconsin. I was there for 18 years, it was time for something new." Then they go, "But why Indiana of all places!?" "Why not?" Which leads into 20 questions about whether I had friends/family here (no), if I was really interested in the business school (nope), and ooooh, my personal favorite, a question about whether it was because my university was easy to get into and anyone can get into it.....Actually, asswipe, I graduated high school with high honors and a rockin' ACT score and only applied to one college because I was so damn confident I could get in anywhere, but thanks for implying I'm a moron who had to cross 2 states just to find a school that would accept me...fucktards Basically, it always ends with them calling me crazy because I *gasp* chose Indiana as my school destination with no other reason besides "why not?" Some people just can't wrap their heads around it...

There is a certain type of customer who thinks everything you tell them is a story or a lie. Now, honestly, most of the dancers I know make-up most of what they tell guys about their background so the cynical guys certainly have a reason to suspect any story they hear. What I don't understand is why the fuck any guy should care! If I'm in a club talking to a dancer that I'm interested in getting dances from the last thing I want to do is put her in a bad mood by calling her a liar. It's just plain stupid behavior.

These inquisitive types just don't seem to understand that, within reason, a dancer will put up with a fair amount of annoying BS if she thinks she will get money out of you. That being said, her attitude while giving said dances will, quite often, be effected by the attitude you exhibit while asking for them...

I would never scream "liar!" unless I was totally kidding and already knew the girl, but from your quoted motivation -- which was quite vague -- I thought his reaction was a clear boyfriend or scandal probe, e.g. "that's bullshit, you moved across the country with your boyfriend (or to escape X) and you don't want to admit it."

It's an inevitable result of the cloud of doomed stereotypes that hangs over the head of every newbie customer.

Even if this is the motivation, it's incredibly rude behavior, irrespective of whether he's spending or not.

its not normal for people just to pack up and move like that. you didnt mention if you moved for work, just decided to peace out and move with some friends etc. "just decided to relocate" is a general response and would lead me to believe its a cover up for something you dont want to tell. has nothing to do with being in a sc.
I do know a few guys who relocate all the time due to their jobs but never "just cuz". although i have been thinking of moving to vegas for a few years just cuz.....i love to party.

I can't imagine why anyone would press a dancer for answers to personal information or accuse her of lying. I certainly wouldn't. But SC's are full of socially retarded people, so I guess nothing should surprise you ladies.

I dunno, isn't moving away what most 20-somethings do if they're bored of their hometown and have nothing tying em down to it except parents and siblings?

^^ This is what I think most 20-somethings should do if they're bored of their hometown, but sadly, I think very few actually do. Every single one of my friends from high school who didn't move away for college is still in my hometown. They even complain about how boring it is (small town), but when I say "Well, go somewhere else" I can tell from the look on their face that they never will. People just don't want to go through the hassle of moving away from what they know, even if they're sick of it - they think they need a "legit" reason, which I think is a shame... I personally don't think you need to give any other reason beyond "I got sick of it there and was ready for a change" to give to customers or anybody else. Anybody who can't accept it as the truth is probably one of those people who has lived in their town their whole life and is sick of it but won't grow the balls to try something new.
Don't try to win over the haters. You are not the Jerk Whisperer.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

I moved over 2,000 miles away from where I grew up just on a whim. Really. I got to where I live now with just 2$ in my pocket and a suitcase. It was a fucking blast!

to op: I get this EXACT conversation almost nightly. Sometimes they won't just let it go. "It was a guy wasn't it?" "You moved here with your boyfriend didn't you?" are some of the other responses they give me. No, I didn't- I was completely single and broke when I moved to where I am now. Maybe I was just sick and tired of living in the same place I grew up in! Plus it was a smallish town, and I'm more of a mid to big city kinda girl.
