Question Micro Linc Hair Extensions...any of you ladies have experience?

So I've researched and decided that the micro lincs are the best overall and the least damaging. My hair is almost bra strap length but I'm getting impatient. I've found a great hair tech that does these extensions exclusively and I'm confident that he uses the best techniques and remi hair.

Obviously there is going to be some damage but I'm hoping for minimal. I don't use any heat on my hair and only do a regrowth touch up every other month or so. I wash about twice a week and my hair is kept up a lot.

Just wondering if any of you ladies could give me feedback on what your hair was like after you took your extensions out??

If I'm trying to grow my own hair is this a huge mistake?

Any insight as I have a week before my appointment to decide to go through with this! Thanks...

I loved them! They didn't damage my hair at all. I actually think having extensions kind of helped my hair grow because they took most of the beating from my flat and curling irons. They feel really strange at first because you have to get used to washing and handling them a certain way, they can also slip out if they aren't clamped in tight enough. I had a lot of fallout when I got them done by a less experienced hair stylist but when I started going to a woman who was more experienced with them and they stayed in. Judging by the way you take care of your hair I think they would be great for you.

After I got my micro links taken out I literally noticed no difference except for that my hair was longer! No thinning, no damage.

Awesome that's so great to hear! I'm super excited now. That's also kind of what I thought as far as damage. I've used the micro links for feather extensions and they were very gentle on my hair. How long did you keep them in?

I've had them done multiple times, multiple brands/hair/stylists. One time, when taken out I had a few very small bald spots by my temples. This is when I used the silicone lined rings and some really crap hair. The best time I had them installed was using the DreamCatchers brand with that brand's hair as well, that was by far the highest quality out of them all. I also used HairLocs once, and didn't like their quality of hair, I tried the Italian, European, and Spanish hair, all of it went ratty fast. I did however like their actual locks, they were very tiny. I've heard mixed reviews about HairDreams, but have never tried it myself. Every brand is different in subtle ways, as far as the type of metal used in the clip and how it grips your hair, the paint of the tiny clip, how quickly that paint chips off and shows the metal underneath, the quality of the actual hair, etc. What brand are you looking at?

Bald spots!? Omg. See that is what scares me! He uses hairlocs exsclusively.

Other than the one time with the bald spots (yikes!) what was your experience with the quality of your hair after removal?

Well....after doing some reading and researching I have found that lots of women have had trouble with hairlocs breaking their hair. It seems mainly after long term use but I think it just won't be worth it to me for a shorter length of time and the amount of money I would be spending to have all my hard work and patience thus far undone. My hair has been growing quickly and I should just be grateful for that!

All the Hairlocs hair SUCKS in my opinion, and I tried them all. I had the Hairlocs in for around a year. If you get them, I say find someone who does the Paris Hilton DreamCatchers brand with that hair as well. I know what you're thinking, Paris Hilton's hair looks like crap, I know I know, but that hair extension system is the best!

Also, I found that Hairlocs was outrageously expensive. *Jade*Love had Hairlocs also, I'm curious as to what she thinks......

The DreamCatchers were actually the least expensive and best looking.

What about clip ins???? Those are hands down the best out of all of them if you ask me.... and the least damaging.

I used clips ins and I have to say they are very damaging. I think between the big metal clips and the putting them in/taking them out constant process is what does it. Also I was teasing my hair to hide the clips which is what caused all my breakage (that was my mistake but still...) I've heard the Paris Hilton extensions were nice as well actually. I've heard mixed reviews about hairlocs but I think the overall outlook on extensions in general is that they are more of a long term commitment rather than a temporary fix while growing hair.

As much as I REALLY want them I'm afraid it will damage my hair and I'll be back to where I started and regret it. I'm gonna try and wait 6 months and if I still want them, then I'll go ahead and take the plunge. Unless of course I can find a really great installer and some great extensions!

JD...Other than the one incident with the bald spots, what was the condition of your hair after each removal of the your extensions?

Actually when I had those Paris Hilton DC extensions they actually protected my hair and it was longer when I took them out. It seemed thinner, but I think that was an illusion from the extensions. They didn't damage at all, and actually protected my hair as it grew out. It's all about the installation though. If they put too much extension hair and not enough of your own hair into each bond, it will be too much weight and end up pulling out your hair to some degree. You have to really go to somebody who knows this balance, if that makes any sense. Also, if the extension hair is poor quality and you end up brushing out knots all day, it will put too much tension on your natural hair and pull it at the root as well.

A Lot of insight in the comments section although I'm sure at least some of it is crap from salon owners, etc but what I get from reading it is that it's a gamble with any kind of extension and one brand is best. It's what's best for your hair and lifestyle.

I did find two salons that use the Dream Catcher extensions. It would run me about 1200. And since I'd only leave them in for 6 months at longest (getting them re done at the 3 month mark for another 150) I don't think for me personally it would be worth it. Would I love them? Most definitely. Would I regret it even if the damage was minimal? Probably. Would I be absolutely devastated if my hair started breaking. HELL YEAH.

In six months my hair will be almost the length the extensions would be anyway. I'll just have to practice patience.

Im having a full head of micro ring hair extentions done next week, for the first time ever, ive only ever used clip ins before, im was going to go blonde with it but the upkeep would be so ridiculous that im going red instead, my hairdresser is next door from my vanilla day job so any problems and ill be going straight in, i was terrified of damage and bald spots etc, but i think the micro ring is (from my research) the best kind. He's using remi hair and ive seen the quality and its lovely. Good Luck!! xx

He had the blonde hair but since 90% of my club went blonde in the last few weeks im going red, so ive got to go in tommorow to colour match exactly what i want, and then he's gonna express order the hair to arrive hopefully by monday, and then getting them installed (lol) at some point in the week i hope! Fingers crossed! Im less worried since deciding not to go blonde PLUS extentions as i had major fears about my hair just snapping off and ending up a tufty mess! But im actually excited now! And will post pictures etc of results when they are in! xxx

Yes, please update us! I just started camming this October. I have 5 boys at home and dont have a ton of mula to spend, I'm 30 and my hair is thin and shoulder length. I was thinking the remy clip ins. And only use them at night when me & my hubby cam since I mainly do couples. BUT, we have a lot of "hair puller" custy's and I'm not so sure how clip ins will work ??

I have microlink extensions and I do them myself. I don't do the single point extensions though, I use wefts. I've had absolutely no issues at all with this method of extension, the only issue I may have is installing the microlink too close to my scalp. If the link is too tight it can pull on the hair causing "tension bumps" which feels like the bulb of your hair's root near the surface. This happens to me sometimes because I install it myself but if you have a stylist putting them in you can tell them if it feels too tight etc.
If anything extensions have only helped my natural hair since I don't have to curl my hair or use heat etc.

My hair is very fine and slightly wavy and I have 2 packs of 18'' hair installed with some teal and purple single extensions added to the weft. I'm going longer next time with 22 inches! Btw good quality hair is KEY HERE, I've been using the same hair for over a year and I could continue using it if I wanted to. If you want I can include a picture.

and I have no problem with hair pulling with these! Just make sure you tell them to pull near your roots and not the ends of your hair!

I learned all about extensions and how to put them in with these sites:

Another thing to consider when installing is which direction the stylist installs each link. For example, I had one stylist (not my favorite) install each link really close to my scalp around my temple area, all the way touching my head, but pulled towards the back, away from my face, so the bond was directed towards the back. This is really hard to explain in words, you have to see it in person. When the hair grew out, I had a weird bump, like half of the hair on one side of the bond was longer, and protruded out, while the other side of the bond was tight and smooth. The flattened link is shaped like a rectangle. Basically it looked like one corner of the rectangle was touching my scalp, and the other corner, the one closer to my face, was a millimeter or something away from my scalp, so the rectangle was slanted. This may sound like no big deal, but when your hair starts to grow out, the hair forms into a bump and protrudes out. Then when you brush your hair, it catches and pulls out some hair. I hope I explained that well. In order to correct this problem that you won't notice until your hair starts growing out, the stylist needs to lay the bond and install to how your hair will fall naturally. So, the bonds around your temple need to NOT be directed away from your face, and need to be installed to where they will fall in front of your shoulders.

I had 4 of these put in after a bad experience with great lengths ruining my hair. No lie I lost around 30% of my hair in 6 weeks. Never again! This lady where I live invented some special microlink extensions, I saw her on t.v so I went in and she put just 4 in to see if I liked how they felt and see if there was damage, what not. I ended just pulling them out after a week because I hated how they felt and they had moved down about an inch anyways and I didn't want them. I could see were they would cause damage they felt really sharp too. My girlfriend whose had extensions of every kind for like 10 years likes the tape in ones. I've seen her with both fusion and the tape and the tape looks the best because it's strips of hair instead of small individual pieces which tend to look stringy after a few months. If you have thick strong hair you should be fine with the microlink bt if you have fine, thin or slightly damaged I would not get them period.

Michele that sounds totally off the wall but WOULD be my luck! I've had two MRI's in the past 3 years, one on my head. Of course they weren't emergency MRI's but ya never know. I woulda totally rocked the shaved head though and bought a wig. lol.

Anyway....After TONS of research I just bought 200g of seamless tape (skin weft) Remy hair extensions. I found quite a few companies out there and ended up purchasing from one of them from their ebay store. They had an amazing feedback score and shipped free next day. I got 3 different colors so I could blend. The hair should be here today!
I've spend days reading and researching and watching you tube installation videos for skin weft and I'm confident I can do a good job. Hell I cut and bleach and dye my own hair why would I have anyone else do my extensions?!
This seems to be a truly safe method of hair extensions when done properly and cared for.
I have also done research on LHC board and talked to a fellow member that used the tape method safely for 5 years and grew her hair to waist. She actually used the extensions while growing her hair out. I was sold.
I've learned that to completely customize these types of extensions is to find the best quality hair, cut/dye it and make my own tape wefts which is probably what I'll do after I get a little practice of the less expensive hair.

    Keep you all updated...

Ok so the tape extensions are AWESOME. I did a full head application today. They are comfy, easy, and undetectable. They also come out very well. I used pure avocado oil to remove them. I ended up taking them all out. They would have stayed very well I'm sure especially if I had set them with a little heat but I couldn't keep them in because I felt too phony. All that fake hair...it felt weird. Also I don't heat style my hair at all ever so it may have been hard to style with the extensions in.The top layer of my hair is much much shorter because of breakage do it would be hard to style without straightening (my natural hair dries wavy.) Once the top layer grows in a bit and I have to start cutting off length to even it out, I'll try em again. In the mean time I may cut a few to the length of my hair just to fill out the ends or the sides.

    I recommend this method!

My friend really like those and they looked much nicer than the current fusion ones she has in but I guess she said you have to change them out more frequently. That's a shame you wasted all that money on them to find out there not for you. Maybe you could use less hair or if you don't straighten your hair you could get indian hair as it dries wavy. Maybe you have indian hair? You could wash them and let them dry naturally and see.

Yeah you would have to change more frequently them unless you added a glue to the tape. Personally I was looking for a method that would let me take down the install with little or no damage so I won't be doing that but I know people that do. In all honestly it really wasn't that much money especially compared to a grand I would have spent at a salon only to freak out after they got them in and then have them taken out

I'm such a weird combo of glamour hippie I do this sort of thing all the time. I'll only eat raw foods and use organic shampoo and conditioner but then I'll turn around and bleach my hair. WTF. lol. But that's me. It's kinda twisted but even though I may not ever be able to install all that hair I kinda like looking at it and seeing what my hair will look like as it continues to grow. Plus I may experiment with adding some volume....just a few pieces here and there and maybe adding some low lights without having to dye my blonde. And who knows, I may give it another try down the road and end up loving it.

Also good point on washing it. I may try and give it a little wave.
