    Default Eyelash extensions

The mainiac home remedy hippie aka me, hates wearing makeup. I realize that I have to start wearing makeup more often for work. I do not like it, but I have to maintain a professional appearance. I have tried to stick with organic brands/mineral, etc.

I am considering getting eyelash extensions so I do not have to use mascara. I am also thinking about getting perment makeup done...eyeliner only. I know I will still have to wear makeup, but I have seen these done with absolutely amazing results.

Eyelash extensions: how much do they cost? do you still wear mascara? do they get all gross and matted? if I don't like mascara...will these be even worse?

    TY!

I wear eyelash extensions and I LOVE them. Im addicted. I do not have to wear mascara ever (it would probably mess them up) and I love that my eyelashes look beautiful and perfect all the time..... I get to wake up with pretty eyes every day. its my favorite thing! I pay $150 for a full set and then $50 every 3 weeks for a fill. I do my best to make sure I dont wait too long so that I dont have to get a full set again..... If you are diligent about getting a fill then the big expense is just the start up.

    Some drawbacks:
I can't sleep on my face.
I can't rub my eyes or touch them too much... But then again I dont need to. I just have to be mindful of it.
Its harder to apply eye makeup....but I rarely use eyeshadow or eyeliner... That will changes though and I will just learn to take a little more time to apply eye makeup around the lashes.
You can still wear a set of false strip lashes when you want to go super dramatic.

I do love that the eyelash extensions come in a lot of sizes so when you get them done you let the perskn know what "look" you are trying to achieve and she can choose the lashes that will do it for you.

Good luck!! If you're in Portland I can recommend the person I use... She is really good at what she does and she gets just as excited about making your eyes pretty, as you !

I have a love hate relationship with these... I love them for a few weeks, they begin to fall/I accidentally sleep on them and I look ridiculous. Then I get an expensive 'infill' (never looks as good as first set) and they begin to fall again.... it's such a vicious circle.

I went to the top technician - don't get me wrong, they look FABULOUS initially... they just don't stand up to everyday wear and tear.

Plus when i had them removed (professionally) my eyelashes were sparser and still are. Thought it was in my head, after them being so lucious from the extensions, but they still aren't like they were 'virgin' a year on.

Yet I'm considering them again because of those first couple of amazing weeks...

I had the same experience as you. It always looks the best when you first get them done.

If I wasn't careful, my makeup would "stain" my eyelashes and it looked pretty ridiculous. Also, when eyelashes would fall out there would be like a noticeable gap, which didn't look right. I had to be super careful when applying eye makeup, and especially taking it off, because the glue won't be effective if makeup remover touches it.

I remember one time when it was really windy and I was outside, the wind was tugging at my eyelashes, and when I looked in the mirror quite a few had fallen out.

It wasn't worth the hassle for me. I'd rather wear a nice pair of falsies.

The good part about it, was all the compliments from random people. The old ladies would tell me how beautiful my eyelashes were. I would just flutter my eyelashes at them and say "thank you." Lol.

Okay, now I kind of miss them.

I've finally gotten them after debating for months. I love them! It's been just over a week and they still look great. I paid 150 (200 with tip) for the very full dramatic look. I also chose the minks rather than silk as they are lighter and more comfortable. It did take about 2 hours and I got a LOT of lashes put on. 10, 12 and 14 lengths layered. The first eye definitely took longer and my technician was pulled away for about 10 minutes but the second eye she breezed through.

For me these are FABULOUS and well worth the investment. I am a natural blonde with very sparse blonde lashes and I too hate wearing mascara (It's been probably 6 months since I last used the stuff). I had been using the cluster extensions from sally's for months and although they are ok, they are nothing compared to my minks. You do have to be careful about rubbing but I use the same makeup remover as always (with oil) I just don't get it on my lashes. You can use mascara although I obviously won't be doing that and couldn't see ever needing too. I believe on my info sheet it says they sell a mascara that works well with the lashes as well as a touch up sealant to help them last...although my tech didn't tell me that before I left or I probably would have purchased (I'm actually wondering if she deserved that whole tip...)

I've only noticed less than 10 lashes total come out and there is no gapping and it's not noticeable which I attribute to the layered effect and amount of lashes.

With the clusters I did notice my own natural lashes being pulled out but with these, I have only noticed the individual lashes falling out not taking my eyelash with it.

I do suggest trying the cluster lashes first to get used to them before making the commitment of the extensions.

I dont think they are worth it. I got mink eye lashes (longest one they had). They looked perfect for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks they started going sideways, some were falling, overall they did not look straight. I used an eyelash brush each day. You cant wear much eye makeup, be careful with taking it off, and you cant rub them much, cant use oil product. You usually have to get them filled in every 2-3 weeks. Depending on the place I got mine done for 150, it was 200 orginally but they had a promo. Refill was 100, I didnt get a refill. I think wasting 250 - 300 a month is too much.

They fell off naturally, i didnt pull them off. My eyelashes were shorter, but grew back to their full length within a month. I woldnt recommend them, if you must go to the eyelashes that last a day. Buy a good glue and a pack of 50 -100 - 150 - 200 from ebay and there you go youre set. No refills and your eyelashes dont get ruined - as long as they are applied properly. The whole process took about 1 30 - 2 hrs, but for me personally its too epensive but worth a try. Try it ones see if you like it, if not find something else.

    ^Find a Groupon.

I love them for the first few days. They do not match my more dramatic makeup style. They do look amazing with no makeup. OP, I would recommend getting your eyelashes tinted, curling them and putting on clear mascara. What do you dislike about mascara? Fake ones will drive you insane. If you are not going to make any effort with the rest of your face you probably shouldn't bother with anything. Nobody will notice. Just shave your pits, please.

I love eyelash extensions. ive been wearing them on and off for a year now. I dont wear mascara but you can. they never mat up. i dont need to curl them or anything. you can wear heavy eyeliner and makeup just fine. sometimes i wear no makeup sometimes a lot and theg look amazing either way. i get tons of compliments because they are so dramatic yet look like real lashes. just make sure you go through an eyelash company's directory if people who have been trained and certified to apply them.

i got them and HATED THEM! because it hurt like hell, it cost 200, they didn't look half as good as fake glue-on lashes..and i couldn't even put mascara on them to darken them to make them look half-way good. it sucked, they looked worse than before. not worth it at all! i'd be interested in Latisse if anything, but it all sounds way too expensive than just buying some fake lashes and mascara.
my sister got fake eyeliner, and says she likes it so that may be good as long as you don't cake on the eye shadow and cover it up.

Well, I'm going to be unpopular here..I am reading a new book called "Skin Rules" written by a Dr Debra Jaliman. She says that false lashes, including extensions, damage delicate eyelid skin, & can pull out your own lashes, often permanently. Dyeing lashes is also bad (I used to have this done myself) can damage the eye & cause blindness.
She named a few lash growing products: Latisse, and over the counter products: RapidLash, RevivaLash. Also LashDip, avail. in salons, coats the lashes & give the appearance of wearing mascara for several weeks

I had them for about a month during spring of 2011 before I got my boobs. Looked nice, pain in the culo if one fell out. I'd recommend to try them out once to see if you like them.

I am a junkie - I'm in New York, granted but I get the black diamond C15 cat eye from here http://jjeyelashes.com/photo_gallery.htm and even after a month they still look good (you definitely need a new set after 6 weeks though). Sadly I do feel like they weaken the lashes though, my own lashes seem shorter than ever, but it could also be the comparison. They save me so much time as I am too lazy to take mascara off after work. I went to a good place in SF once, and a good place in LA but anyway, watch out, they are addictive!

I LOVE eyelash extensions. I get a fill about every 2 weeks. Thankfully my friend does them at a discount, but I would pay full price if I needed to. The going rate is like $100 for a set and $50 a fill and much more if you go to a more exclusive area. They def look best the first few days but they still look great up until time for a fill. It took a while to relearn how to use eyeliner but now it takes me 10 min to do work makeup and I wear no makeup when I don't work. I recommend mink lashes in the crown style. It's like a little cluster so they are thicker and its a faster process to put on. It does suck when they're falling out though because you get gaps but I feel like its not noticeable unless I'm up close in a mirror. I don't really brush mine but I blow dry them if they get wet. I find keeping them dry for the first day or two is most important to set them. After that I've worn them to the beach swimming and they've held on great. Oh, and the glue used is super important. Buying a cheaper one will damage your lashes and I'd recommend avoiding a place that does the lashes on the side such as a nail salon and making sure you get the best glue out there.

I love the way they look, but I have allergies and therefore itchy eyes. Everytime I rubbed my eyes it was like being stabbed in the eyelid. Owwie

I just can't bring myself to pay for eyelash fills, especially since with my sleeping habits (all over the place)etc I'd need them constantly.
I did get permanent eyeliner though, it's been great. I can't put on my eyeliner for crap and this way I always look put together. I definitely want to go get it thicker, I'm just gaining back my courage. I'm not a pain wimp, and its not bad, I just can't stand anyone near my #@#%[email protected]#% eyes.

I am on the second week of having mine and im not going to get a fill. Yah there pretty, But the thing i hate most is whenever ur showering or washing ur face the lashes get wet. Then the water would drip down into my eyes and irritate them. i started to kind of press on them to get the water off before i opened my eyes after the first week. But still there a little annoying in that aspect plus i love to get dolled up just like the rest of em' but for day to day (even though i am a camgirl) I really don't feel as if i need them because when im not going somewhere or online working im a pretty low maintenance chick.
that being said i flushed $200 down the drain to try these out and i pretty much new after a few days that i wouldn't be getting these again.
i think if your one of those girls who is like glamorous every day than these are for u, but if your low maintenance like me its not worth it. That's just me though.
Ill just be putting on an extra layer of mascara from now on.

Awful. I hated them. I had them for maybe a month and a half, two months, and they'd last two weeks. The first two sets stood up to daily wear and tear decently, esp. the first set. After that, they just didn't hold, and think it was because the shit they use to remove them fucks up your eyelashes so badly that there's not much for them to hold on to! Moreover, I will add that OVER a year later, my own lashes are still quite sparse compared to their original state. It's costly and horrible for your eyelashes, and are more than moderately uncomfortable at first. Not worth it, IMO.
If you decide to try this out, go to the best, most reputable tech in your area. Do your research on yelp and whatnot. Spend whatever money you need to so that this is not the painful experience it was for me! Aaack

I have light color eyelashes. In my regular life I don't wear a lot of makeup and like to make my routine as easy as possible, so sometimes I dye them. Got the dye off Amazon. Works well, but obviously only makes them darker, not thinker or longer.

I've tried doing the extensions at home on my own. Bought cheap lashes in several sizes off ebay, but picked up more expensive glue to use. It looks great at first, but a little time consuming for me. Plus I always mess with them and they fall off faster that way.

I got mine done two days ago and LOVE THEM! Only $40, water proof, and the lady took her time and was very diligent in telling me what to do and what not to do with them! Now I only wear foundation, blush, and lipstick at the club.

Any ladies here wear contact lenses? Curious if the eyelash extensions make it more difficult to put in and take out lenses.
