Thumbs up Paleo, atkins, southbeach. Are you on the bandwagon?

I'm just curious about all these diets. The paleo one fascinates me the most. Anyone on them or tried them in the past?

Hells yes. I'm actually on the raw version of the paleo diet, and the difference is insane. I have so much energy, leaned out a bunch, and need less sleep than I did before. And my skin has cleared up... I used to blame it on wearing so much makeup for work, but it's apparent my acne was actually mostly from eating crap.

I basically wind up starving and miserable for two Weeks on these diets because I can't eat anything I like then just give up. Lol

I'm doing the fatkins with limited carbs. I'm sure everyone knows about my quinoa addiction. Kylea2 started me on it and I try to control it but it is so fucking good!!!!!!

IDK what the paleo version is but I'm guessing it's similar to raw food lifestyle which is how I live and I second that! Plus, for the first time in a decade I can shit without the aid of caffeine! Every morning just like clockwork. Beautiful. Skin, nails, hair....all better. I sleep better and less too like you said.

I did lose a lot of weight initially even though I didn't need too but it leveled out. The weird thing is that my body has never looked more... proportioned. I don't know how else to explain it but I don't get fat deposits in any particular area (or anywhere.) Like my inner thighs or arms. My body looks like it did 10 years ago. Fantastic!

Ohhh also. You DO give up a lot when you go raw like dairy and grains BUT, it's so worth it to eat avocados, nuts and bananas every day

I'm not a real big fan of the Atkins because of the fat amount & the impact on your cholesterol. I do like parts of the south beach because of the fruit & lower fat. From what I've seen the Paleo seems to be a good choice. Your body uses Fat or Carbs as fuel & if done right with excersise you can take in both at the right times.

I guess you could call me paleo because I don't eat dairy or grains but I'm mostly raw (blended food and fruit) with smaller amounts of seeds and meat (primarily seafood).

Lots of paleo types would freak at the amount of fruit I eat though.
Same here w the digestion thing -- I had a lot of issues and finally I can poop every day. Yay. I don't know how the heavy meat eaters ever go!

Some nutrition sites I love are kimberlysnyder.net/blog and Danny roddy's blog (he talks about his ultimately failed experience w paleo and is into ray peat// paleo 2.0 ((bone broth, etc))) now)

Danni -- I saw your and your man's pics in another post and you were both glowing! Do you follow a particular style of raw and what is your calorie intake like? I think if I were to commit to 100% raw for an extended period I'd have to be careful to eat enough and really track it.

That's what it's like for the first two or three weeks. After that the cravings totally vanish. I never thought I would be able to give up pasta, but I haven't had any in months and any time my roommate makes spaghetti now I'm just like, "Meh."

Baking was the toughest thing, but then I discovered raw carob. Mix in a little bit of raw honey, pour over almonds.... delicious.

We're genetically designed to eat a Paleo diet so of course that would probably have the best payoff in terms of being healthy. But for me, I eat pescatarian, organic, raw as often as possible, few carbs, no gluten, and limited dairy. However, I'd really like to cut out sugar and the rest of the dairy.

I love love love Cafe Gratitude's raw cookbooks. Everything is delicious, healthy, no added sugar, and healthy carbs (fruits+vegetables). They even have delicious healthy desserts too. I'd totally recommend that.

Naw. That's what people say... I've gone as long as 3 months on a low carb diet. The cravings NEVER disappeared.
My body LOVES carbs and dairy. LOVES THAT SHIT.

^I actually waste away with no carbs and fat too. Even now Im eating semi-low carb and pretty clean and if I don't have at least 1 massive cheat a week its like my body just starts shutting down. All my muscles start aching and my energy level becomes so low even walking becomes a strain.

I think if you want to skip out on a carb, the best carb to leave out is any kind of bread and pasta, whole-wheat types included.

Don't leave out on the good carbs like fruit, or stuff like milk.

I feel like I start looking super-good when I simply never ever have any bread, any pasta, any noodles or rice. If I do crave it, I try to have a tiny bit of beans instead or cook up a small amount of quinoa. But after avoiding STARCHY carbs and grains, I generally stop craving them.

I think that staying away from all carbs is a recipe for disaster. Have endless fruit, endless low-fat milk and dairy. It has carbs but its not going to kill you.
Diets usually fail because people tend to go an extremist approach. Instead of this silly "no carbs from any source allowed" why not just have a "no grains and no breads are allowed at all, but all others forms of carbs are allowed." That works much better and doesnt drive you crazy and depressed.
After you have lost a bit of weight and are looking how you want to look, then you might need to cut down on how much exercise you have been doing or all the calorie counting and increase the calories a little but keep the exercises the same or a little less. Or else your body can tell you're losing too much weight and then you get very very tired. Jessie, maybe you need to increase the amount of vitamins when you're eating clean, to make up for the decrease in food you're eating? Take vitamin supplements?

This is why paleo works so well- it's not low carb per se, it's just nothing from the bread and pasta family. I eat a ton of fruit and veggies.

I agree w Jessie, I think cheat days are healthy...if I don't have one twice a month minimum I start to look drawn.
Some paleo peeps are really into crazy cheat days as a fat loss strategy.

Soooo I just found out zucchini noodles for pasta might be kosher for paleo peeps. Anyone have any info?

I would say most definitely. They actually do a fairly good job of replicating pasta. There's a ton of recipes all over the internet.

1 year later.....I look better. Still mostly Paleo but I'm not such a calorie Nazi and I enjoy the occasional burrito.
