Default Healthy food to prepare/precook etc. to take to school or work

So i'm trying to be really serious about dieting and eating more clean, but I am almost always at school or at work and even if I tried, there's just nothing remotely healthy there for me to eat. Can we share ideas/recipes for what you guys take to school and work that's healthy and not full of bad fats, sugars, bad carbs, stuff like that?

I make a big batch of quinoa each week and add a bunch of veggies. It's easy to throw in a small tupperware (yes, I'm one of those tupperware people) and eat while I'm at work or school. Quinoa can be bland, so feel free to liven it up with curry powder or whatever kind of herbs or spices you like. I cook it in vegetable or chicken broth instead of just water to give it a little more flavor. It's also easy to do something similar with lentils. Having enough protein and healthy carbs are important for me to keep my energy up throughout the day so apples, bananas and nuts are something I tend to eat a lot of as well. Snacking frequently feels better to me than eating a big meal all at once. Hummus and baby carrots (or bell peppers, celery, crackers, etc) are a good pick-me-up snack for me (protein and the garlic is good for your immune system) - you can make your own hummus at home so you don't have to spend $4-6 on each 16oz tub. Just throw some garbonzo beans, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and tahini in a food processor. Get a big purse and fill it with snacks. I always hated wasting money just to eat someone else's nasty unhealthy food.

Coat a bunch of almonds in a mixture of honey, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg (whatever ratio of these please you - I prefer mostly honey with just small amounts of the other flavors). Put them on a cookie sheet and roast them in the oven for a bit. I think I did it at 275 for 40 minutes, but I honestly don't remember. I know if you set the temperature too high it will kill all the healthy fats in the almonds. They help to satiate my sweet tooth without eating a bunch of refined sugars. I can also put them in a container in the fridge and just pull a couple out here and there. Beware, they will turn into a giant sticky mess, but they're delicious.

I'm hypoglycemic, so if I don't eat fairly often, then I crash. We're talking cold sweats, shaking, blurred vision, etc. In extreme cases, slipping into a coma is possible. I like to keep Glucerna products on hand, specifically their shakes. If you've ever had Special K protein shakes or anything like that, the taste is similar. They're made for people with diabetes and often used for patients with feeding tubes, and everything I've read about them is positive. They have snack shakes, meal replacement shakes, and a variety of snack bars and the like. Not as satisfying as "homemade" food might be, but they're lifesavers for me.

Also, avocados are a great snack. They sell the packaged halves in grocery stores, but I prefer to just keep a pocket knife on hand and cut my own. They have good fats in them and are tasty. I also use a knife to make peanut butter and banana sandwiches, since bananas get soggy if you cut them up beforehand. Very slightly unripened bananas are the best for curbing hunger, imo. Apples + peanut butter, or yogurt. Or bringing your own granola and same agave syrup and mixing into your yogurt. The first time I did it, I felt like I was in junior high again, but just leaving a lunch kit with an ice pack in my car during class with fresh food has been the best. The only vegetarian options on my campus are shitty tofu, french fries, or a bean and rice or potato taco from Taco Bell. Ew. Hummus is good too, but will probably make you bloat.

I usually take to school with me:

banana or banana chips, grapes, almonds or other mixed nuts with dried fruit, almond butter and jam sandwich or turkey, baby carrots, protein powder to mix with water, gluten/dairy free oat bars, tuna and crackers, salad in tupperware. Just easy things to snack on, I can never plan ahead far enough to bring an actual meal. I just throw a few things in my backpack and it works for the day.

I don't have a lot of time to cook and all that. I go to Publix, I get rotisserie chicken, organic baby spinach mix, humus, and 100 calorie multi-grain with flax flat bread. Throw that together and I got lunch for the week. Then I only really made dinner to share with my baby (she eats lunch at day care). Lots of fruits in between. I at the very least eat 1 banana and 1 apple every day. I ate a mango last night made me so happy

I like to take a full can (with the pull lid, not the one you need a can opener for) of Dole Pineapple chunks, and I cook a box of Broccoli Cheese Rice (Uncle Ben's is my fav) and take half one day, half another. It's brown rice so it's very filling and tasty, plus it's good for you. You do need some fats, though. Even if you're trying to lose weight or maintain you need at least 20 grams of fat a day. Make up a sub/sandwich at home, turkey, chicken, something like that if you eat meat.
Bring yogurt, pudding, applesauce, etc. as a side.

I have a fruit with pretty much every meal. And I'm always carrying an apple around with me because it's cheap and you never know when it's needed!
For snacks: fruit, almonds, yogurt (low calorie), veggies (carrots)
For meals: wraps (you can make it pretty healthy with lots of lettuce, very little if any salad dressing, tomatoes, eggs)
Rice (I like to make up "fried" rice but I don't use all the butter and stuff. just rice with veggies and some soya sauce)

Organic rice cakes. I put peanut butter on them (or coconut oil sometimes). I buy organic peanut butter that has no sugar in it...and you wouldn't guess that it lacks sugar! Try it sometime; you might be surprised by how little of a difference sugar makes with high-quality (but not necessarily expensive) PB. PB also is a great dip for celery.

I take granola to work to snack on sometimes. You can sneak allll kinds of healthy stuff in granola. Flax seeds, wheat germ, chia seeds...you can't even taste them with the honey and spices!

I just recently turned into a vegetarian, best commitment I could have ever made, and in addition to no meat I don't eat anything oily or with lots of sugar. I might even start cutting out bread :-/ Drink lots of water. Try having a glass of water or hot green tea(green tea helps metabolism) when you get hungry. Since oftentimes you can mistake thirst for hunger. Also a fresh salad, fruits, vegetable soups are all good. Substitute white bread for whole wheat and white rice for brown. If you can purchase NON FAT anything I advise you to. I eat non fat yogurt and even non fat ranch dressing, and I ALWAYS check nutritional content before eating anything, I look for "total fat" amount and it has to be 0g or else I won't touch it.

Spring rolls work well for me, also, look for a book called Appetite for Reduction.

I always bring apple slices and a little tupperware for peanut butter to work. Sometimes soup with quinoa added (I bought a coconut curried lentil soup... amazing!), smoothies, veggie booty, carrots and cucumber slices with hummus, almonds and cranberries... I pretty much pack an entire pantry for work just in case I get hungry.

I'm also into making BIG salads but I try to save those for when I get home so I'm not gorging myself on heavier food before I go to sleep.

I bring Greek yogurt with raspberries almost every morning, since I eat breakfast at work. For lunches I do a lot of big salads with tuna or chickpeas, or homemade veggie chili (so easy - just throw it all in a Crockpot for the day and it's ready when you get home, and makes such good leftovers).

At my desk, I keep some brown rice cakes, and nuts, plus some yogurt and fruit in the fridge in case I forget to bring a lunch or am still hungry afterwards.

My SO and I make our own sushi allll of the time! So much cheaper than at a restaurant (which is important for true sushi addicts), and SO good! Definitely takes some practice to get the hang of it, but it tastes phenomenal no matter how amateur it looks in the beginning!

I've been on a low calorie diet for about a week now so I've learned to portion control and switch out some of the higher calorie foods for less... Yet still being satisfied with the swap outs.

I use Hungry Girl and Rocco Dispirito's books.

Fage yogurt 0 percent fat is an awesome sub for sour cream. I mix some with a packet of the ranch dressing seasonings and you've got an awesome dip for veggies! I also use it instead of traditional ranch on baby spinach salads. A whole 6 oz container is more than enough for a few servings and only 100 cal for the entire thing. Sometimes I'll even sub Fage for mayo in tuna salad.

Those laughing cow cheese wedges are only 35 cals each and I'll mix it with some broccoli in the microwave for yummy low cal broc and cheese.

I've begun to substitute cauliflower for potatoes as well. Cauliflower 'fried rice' is really good! So low in fat and calories and if you spice it up with low sodium soy sauce, truly awesome! I put the raw cauliflower in a food processor so it becomes the consistency of rice grains. Add a little oil to a pan and brown it up with some egg whites, other veggies like frozen peas and bell peppers and maybesome fixed chicken.

Instead of mashed potatoes, I boil cauliflower, drain really good and mash it up. Sure it's not the same as real mashed potatoes, but so much healthier, esp if you sub out the cream and butter for Greek yogurt. Add some garlic and good to go

I use fage 0% all the time, I actually love the way it tastes. I just made one pack of 'healthy blends antioxidants blend' veggies with a small can of chunk light tuna and some fage 0%, and i put chillis and stuff in it to make it spicy.. not sure if i'd wanna take that anywhere though, it might get bad fast..
