    Default Avoid cutting myself up?

Im thinking of dancing and im just wondering how do you girls keep from getting all cut up when doing floor work? When ever I practice I always end up with red knees, scratches and sometimes bruises, but my skins sensitive so it might just be me. Any tips?

I am pretty new to floor work too, and would love to learn any tricks.

I get the worst bruises when I drink (uh, duh). I'm sure, like pole dancing, the answer is half practice and half finesse (so you descend to the floor and between moves with grace and control, instead of slamming yourself...) but I'd love to know if there's anything else.

Well I dont slam myself lol but I am new to alot of moves. My skin just gets easily red from friction, im very pale skinned. Iv never noticed other dancers when iv been in clubs with that issue, but I probably wasnt paying close attention.

I've never got cut doing floor work but as for bruises you get used to them.. You build up "stripper skin"..

I rock over the knee socks or thigh highs all the time. Not only do they hide any bruises (I bruise easily in day to say life as well, and as a pale girl it gets to be noticeable) but they also serve as a sort of cushion for my knees when doing floor work, so they don't get as bruised on stage.

^agreed, unless you do a shit ton of polework, lol.

Your skin will eventually toughen up and become more resistant to bruises though.

Thanks everyone. You can wear those things at the club, or just for practice? I don't mean cut as in bleeding cuts or anything bad, more like little scratches on knees, red skin, and bruises.

High socks, thigh highs, and leg warmers are pretty commonly worn by girls while working, don't worry. I've even known a few girls to wear knee pads under them for extra padding.

Are you practicing on carpet? Or hardwood? Most stages are pretty smooth so the scratches won't be a problem. The redness and bruises will for maybe the first three or four months. If you're just starting dancing do what shanna dior said and wear either thigh high socks or some sort of stocking to hide your bruises and to cushion you from the stage. Once you are strong enough for pole work you'll have to lose the socks or you'll slip right off it though. I know a few girls who like fishnets to help hide scars (not from dancing!) and help slide around a little on stage. They're nice cause if you get the wide spaced ones you can still do pole work. Eventually the bruises go away and only appear if you try new things or use a new area of your body for tricks. Good luck!!!
