Hipster.

I lasted three minutes. Where the fuck was this going?

He's a bad guy. A bad guy of the variety that is only stopped by U.S. military boots on the ground. The exact scenario that those who call for his removal will inevitably protest against should it actually happen. "Well, get rid of the mean ole warlord, but don't huuuuuuuurt anyone!"

I'm really on the fence about if the US should be involved or not. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Kony's in the world. The only reason why we know about him is because someone created a viral video. Of course I think it's wrong, but really, what can we do?

Ah Ok The web site was a lot more helpful. As the article says there are SOCOM troops on the ground with the intent of Capture or Kill. I don't think a non profit group selling bracelets is going to do more than 5th SFG.
BTW just because a non profit doesn't work for profit is not an indicator the staff does not enjoy ridiculous six figure salaries. I confess to being jaded after the Red Cross debacles.

Regardless of what's right, we can't afford to do that. And sorry I lost enough friends and parts of my life in the last 2 wars. I'm good, they can deal with it themselves

yeah before i had no idea hat this whole thing is everyone on facebook is obsessing about.
hafway thru the video [awesome production value btw]
still dont know what to think. i mean this has been going on for a looong time and as much as id like to help what can we do???

Ok, so he is an inhuman monster. All right, I have no compunction killing him. Except this is Africa. Before this scum bag is room temperature another will pop right up and start doing the same.
This is Tribal Africa. White European concepts of Law, Morality, Ethics are centuries from evolving on their own here. I for one do not want to revive Colonialism. That is what it would take though, by force, Governments would have to be instituted and the Rule of Law as conceived in First world Nations in the 21st Century imposed. It would not be until six generations that the concepts were ingrained into the populace.
The Western analogy for this would be Pre-Roman Western Europe. Law is retribution and compensation.
Let's not get ourselves into this, it would swallow the GDP of the industrialized world for 200 years and not fundamentally change.

Here's some facts that shake up Kony 2012:

I was all for it until I found out the measely starter kit with a cheap ass bracelet is $30 fucking dollars.... Uhm no thank you. Red flags. Plus been asking some Ugandans I know about it and either had no clue who he was OR they thought he died years ago. O.o

Folks should really read these critiques of the Kony 2012 campaign before throwing their support behind it:
"Many Ugandans frustrated, suspicious of Kony 2012 "

("Military intervention may or may not be the right idea, but people supporting KONY 2012 probably don’t realize they’re supporting the Ugandan military who are themselves raping and looting away. If people know this and still support Invisible Children because they feel it’s the best solution based on their knowledge and research, I have no issue with that. But I don’t think most people are in that position, and that’s a problem.")
etc.etc.

The organization behind Kony 2012 — Invisible Children Inc. — is an extremely shady nonprofit that has been called ”misleading,” “naive,” and “dangerous” by a Yale political science professor, and has been accused by Foreign Affairs of “manipulat[ing] facts for strategic purposes.” They have also been criticized by the Better Business Bureau for refusing to provide information necessary to determine if IC meets the Bureau’s standards.
Additionally, IC has a low two-star rating in accountability from Charity Navigator because they won’t let their financials be independently audited. That’s not a good thing. In fact, it’s a very bad thing, and should make you immediately pause and reflect on where the money you’re sending them is going.
By IC’s own admission, only 31% of all the funds they receive go toward actually helping anyone [pdf]. The rest go to line the pockets of the three people in charge of the organization, to pay for their travel expenses (over $1 million in the last year alone) and to fund their filmmaking business (also over a million) — which is quite an effective way to make more money, as clearly illustrated by the fact that so many can’t seem to stop forwarding their well-engineered emotional blackmail to everyone they’ve ever known.
The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government’s army and various other military forces. Here’s a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army. Both the Ugandan army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army are riddled with accusations of rape and looting, but Invisible Children defends them, arguing that the Ugandan army is “better equipped than that of any of the other affected countries”, although Kony is no longer active in Uganda and hasn’t been since 2006 by their own admission. These books each refer to the rape and sexual assault that are perennial issues with the UPDF, the military group Invisible Children is defending.
Like said above people should really read about it before forking over money.
Language like this is problematic. First, the word choice ("evolving") suggests White European concepts of law, morality, and ethics are the pinnacle of civilizations' development. Second, it also seems to suggest that these concepts don't exist in Africa or that the people aren't developed enough to grasp them.
Also, while yes there are many different tribes in Uganda a tribal society does not automatically denote savagery or violence, or some underdeveloped sense of law. All tribes operate differently. Some may seem violent to us and some may seem peaceful. Although generally speaking, tribal societies tend to be pretty egalitarian, much more so than state level societies.
There is no doubt Uganda is a poor country, but it's not like the population is lesser evolved. Wording like this is reminiscent of 19th century social evolution theories and I don't think that's constructive. Where US involvement in other countries' affairs are concerned, we really need to be aware of our ethnocentrism.
I don't think that it was your intention to suggest these things, so this wasn't a personal attack on you by any means (I actually agree with a lot of the other stuff you said). I just wanted to point this out because I think it's important.

I say it this way because that is the World View being projected onto this area and the situation currently. I mean we have soldiers on the ground to bring "Justice". Would that be our definition of Justice or theirs?
People go with what they know, ya know.
200 years ago in the West a boy was an apprentice at 12 years and a Man at 16. Our Laws and Government are constantly evolving.

KONY 2012 IS A SCAM!
Invisible Children Inc. recently released a very biased and very mislead video regarding Joseph Kony and the LRA.
The Invisible Children Inc. claims to be a non-profit organization but their financial records seems to suggest they are a corrupted and greedy for-profit corporation. In fact a majority of their profits are not related to Uganda or the LRA.
Only 32% of profit went to direct services. The rest went to staff salaries, travel and transport, film production, lobbying, and “professional services”.
Invisible Children’s accounts show it is a cash rich operation, which more than tripled its income to $9m (£5.68m) in 2011, mainly from personal donations. Of this, nearly 25% was spent on travel and film-making. Most of the money raised has been spent in the US. The accounts show $1.7m went on US employee salaries, $850,000 in film production costs, $244,000 in “professional services” – thought to be Washington lobbyists – and $1.07m in travel expenses. Nearly $400,000 was spent on offices in San Diego. (Article)
Invisible Children Inc. is known for their lack of transparency despite being a registered not-for-profit and for their biased ‘documentaries’ that fails to give all the facts. Ex.:
- In 2006, Joseph Kony has fled Uganda after the UN mounted a covert operation to capture or kill Kony and he has since been in hiding.
- In October 2011, Obama authorized the deployment of approximately 100 combat-equipped U.S. troops to central Africa. Their goal is to remove senior LRA leaders from the battlefield and help find and capture Kony.
- Uganda is now rebuilding and the LRA still has little to no influence in Africa since October.
Don't believe the hype.
The lack of money is the root of all evil. -Mark Twain
I'm so sick of this crap. Your YouTube video/Facebook posts, will change nothing.
More American soldiers interfering in a country we have nothing to do with? Weren't we alllllll so appalled at that? More Americans to die, just for another crazy monster to raise up?
It's just nonsense.
