    Default Sinus Issues?

Hey everyone. For the past month or two, I have been dealing with some pretty nasty sinus issues. I am just getting over an opiate addiction (been clean a week..eeep...) so I have no idea if it is the withdrawal or something else...

It all started in January. I would always get really bad sinus headaches. Nothing would make these go away. I figured once I quit the drugs maybe things would start to clear up. The headaches finally started to go away. I started to take a lot of sudafed. I thought things were clearing up. As soon as I would stop taking the sudafed I would get the same horrible sinus pressure headache.

The place I use to live at before was dark, smokey, and had pets. I moved and thought things would get better. A few days after I moved here I noticed my throat hurting. I thought this was strange. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed via emergency surgery when I was 18 about 5 years ago. I had not had any sore throats after my surgery. I did start to feel mucus building up behind my throat though...

I look up stuff online it appears that I probably have a post nasal drip or something that is not draining right. I try hard to hack up whatever this is behind my throat. Lately my mucus I do cough up is pretty bloody. I know this can be because my throat is irritated. I have not really had much of an appetite since I moved to my new house which was about a month ago.

The mucinex is not working. I'm in the middle of starting over my life no insurance etc so like i can't afford to go to the doctor. Is there ANYTHING you guys can recommend for this sinus crap? It is driving me mad. It just does not want to go away....Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before?

I have sinus issues. I think. Maybe it's allergies. Actually I'm pretty sure I have an allergy that triggers my sinuses. Funny mine started right after I quit smoking. Figures. So...
You could possible have an infection in which case antibiotics may do you a world of good. Clear you right up. Since you've had it so long I do recommend trying to find a Dr. Maybe a Med Express? Get your Rx filled at Walmart for really cheap.

I have sinusitis which is just chronic sinus infections/issues. Vicous cycle. Sucks. Balls.

Anyway....if that's what it is than google at home sinusitis remedies and you'll find a lot of things to try.

Things that have helped me are...air purifier, water filtration, Rx nasal spray Astix (non steroid and I hardly use it but it helps...I think?), eucalyptus tea tree oil rub, breathing some tea tree oil vapors, sinus massage. Oh and being out of Pa. When I'm on the west coast I'm not nearly as tortured so I've deduced that it's got to be a mold or pollen around here.

I use Allergy Buster Nasal spray, it's for runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, sinus pressure/headache. Non-drowsy, chem.-free.

standing in the shower and let the hot water run on your face. As hot as you can stand it. This will cause the sinuses to relax and open. The blow your nose in the shower. That can force the gunk out of there.

The other cause for sinus infections is a tooth infection. The blood vessels come together. You may wish to get to a dentist when you can. This has been my case in the past.

Sinus rinses are godsends. My sister-in-law worked in allergy research for a decade or so and since I'm allergic to everything under the sun, they'd pull me in for studies often. You can get some of the nasal sprays to help, but they often cause nosebleeds. Antibiotics may help speed the process, especially if you have a severe infection. However, I really recommend going to a supermarket and finding a nasal rinse (neti pot, for example) and using it. Kind of gross, but a little addictive when you realize how much better they can make you feel.

OMG the neti pot!!! Ive had a deviated septum my whole life which causes major nasal issues for me. If I use my neti pot everyday not only do I never get sick but I also always have a nice clear nasal passage. I love it. Be sure to follow the directions properly and do not blow your nose by plugging one side - you will blow your ear drum.

^Well long story short your auditory tube connects your ear to your nose - equalising the pressure between the two so you should actually never blow your nose with one nostril plugged. They should technically always both be open otherwise the pressure build up is too much for the ear drum. Using a neti pot makes it even worse because the residual water in your nose and sinus cavities. Its not an issue at all just blow your nose properly. Without plugging it!

I googled neti pot and found this...http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2011...-water-warning. Now of course it wasn't the Neti Pot that actually caused the death but still....any remedy that can potentially rupture my ear drum, cause burning and stinging or um distribute brain eating amoebas can stay on the shelf lol.

^ they both used the product incorrectly. You are supposed to use water that has been pre-boiled and saline water not tap water. The Neti pot has been used for 1000s of years in ancient india. Dr oz. made it popular in the states. I'm 100% sure I won't have parasites in my water because a) I live in a major city centre b) I treated the water properly. More people get hit by lightning then die from a Neti pot. It's literally changed my life. I don't use it everyday.. Mostly when sick or when I think I'm about to get sick.

Im surprised u hadn't heard of it. It's pretty popular. Just YouTube it hehe. Nasty! But of course if your scared don't try it but I think your chances of causing harm are less than pretty much anything you do on a daily basis if used properly.

Oil pulling, netti potting, swabbing out your nostrils with hydrogen peroxide and gargling with it.

I also am a fan of the neti-pot! If you keep it clean and use purified/sterile water it is extremely unlikely it could cause any problems. I found in preventing allergy reactions that can be lead to sinus infections to be better than any prescription medicine I have tried. When you say your coughing up blood is it bright red feckles of blood that may be from straining and bursting capillaries? That wouldn't be unusual upper respiratory infections. But if it is alot of blood or a dark color(feels like coming more from GI?(stomach area) that could be serious and you might want to go to an urgent care facility(local doc in a box). You might be able to find one that charges on a sliding scale in your area. I can empathize what it can be like with health insurance issue Feel better.

I have been using the neti pot. I think it helps a little. I use tap water though eeep. I boil it first though.

Now with oil what do you mean by oil? I'm so sick of tasting my sinus drip in my mouth I would go to the doctor but I am stuck in this apartment for another 3 weeks.

any non-canola or vegtable oil. Also, peanut oil is not recommended.

Look for something cold or expellar pressed-- meaning that it's as whole of an oil as you can find.

You can use an olive oil, though a virgin coconut oil is really easy to start out with. I like castor oil when I'm sick BUT it's a very hard oil to start oil pulling with. It wasn't until I'd done it for awhile with other oils that I transitioned to that.

I personally hate hemp oil for this. Just go to the store and look for something, even if it's just a little bottle of macadamia or hazlenut oil (more expensive than you need to do) to try it out.

Put about a spoon in your mouth and swish it through your teeth and around. Don't gargle with it. Eventually, after about 10-20 minutes, you start to feel the mucous build up in the back of your throat. Spit out the oil and the mucous, and if you like (especially if you haven't made it to 20 minutes) do it again until you stop pulling up mucous. VERY useful for sinus infections.

curezone.com also has an oil pulling forum.
