I have not worked there but I have visited there 7 times and have a lot of friends from there. They have said clubs can be kind of seedy and it is not safe to go out in cities in S.A. At night (especially for women). But like I said, I have never worked there so maybe Im wong...
I've been working in Cape Town. The money is okay and can be very good but they treat you like you're a slave. 5 days a week, 9 hour shifts, mandatory meetings, mandatory weekends, and fines for anything you do wrong like smoking and walking or being late for stage. And half the girls are prostitutes. If you sell sex you can really make good money here. If that isn't a problem for you then.....
Oh right, you're from NOLA too! It is pretty hard to adjust to as an American dancer. Like, compared to NOLA it is pretty similar as far as contact goes but the dances are nude and dudes really try to grab everything it is annoying. I lasted two weeks but I am considering going back now as they have put cameras in the booths....
15 minutes contact private you make 800 ZAR which is about $100. Not bad but not great either. People rarely tip, there is certainly no stage tipping and a table dance is about $25 but can be for up to 4 people. Super weird, eh? Hahahahaha. The club itself is beautiful though and the staff is pretty fantastic. Every American/Canadian I have met has left in a day or two. But if you've got thick skin it can work for you.

Years ago, South Africa was a 'gold mine' where club income potential was concerned. However, within the past few years, increasingly worrisome 'safety' issues plus fairly blatant prostitution have more or less killed the risk / reward equation for 'clean' dancers at least.

Did you work at mavericks???
