Question Vegas, Miami and NYC in July - tell me where to go.

    Hey ladies (and Gents),

I'm so excited I'm having an easy uni semester and decided to save lots of money and go on an adventure with my hubby to the states in July. I'm looking for advice on what to do in these cities - Vegas, Miami and NYC. My hubby and I have actually never been on a proper holiday together ever! Not even a honeymoon so we are really excited. We thought about Europe but figured we can do that stuff when we are old and crusty... we wanna party!!

    Things we like -
    going to strip clubs! yeah!
Nightclubs - we like house, techno, progressive, trance, etc.
Shopping (we aren't bringing any clothes with us - buying all new stuff)
    Swimming (both water babies)
Food (love international food but we wanna eat tons of yummy american food cause its hard to get here)
Art (more me but Ill drag him along)
    Theatre or live music
Animals (zoos or aquariums in those places?)

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, but basically we wanna pack in as much as possible. We are going to be partying in Vegas and Miami but probably take it easy in NYC (my family is gonna come down from the great white north to say hello)

Any expert advice would be great! We are open to expensive activities, but can obviously only do so many as to stay within budget, but feel free to suggest it even if you think its expensive. This is a once in a lifetime thing for us.

    Las Vegas
Nightclubs: All of the major casinos on the strip have a fancy nightclub in them, with the better ones belonging to the nicer casinos. Marquee at The Cosmopolitan is the newest and, as of last November, was the hottest club, but that changes frequently.

Shopping: Miracle Mile Shops (at Planet Hollywood) and Fashion Show Mall (just north of Treasure Island, if I remember correctly) are going to be some of the larger, more affordable malls near the strip. The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace are nice, as ar ethe shops ar The Venetian and Pallazo, but more so if you like high-end shopping.

Swimming: Mandalay Bay has a beach pool with sand, and The Flamingo has a series of pools with water slides. Both are usually ranked highly for Vegas pools. If you want the "pool party / dayclub" experience, try the pools at Hard Rock, MGMGrand, The Mirage (topless), or Marquee Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan. The pools at Caesar's Palace look nice, but I haven't tried them yet.

Food: "American" food is really just every other nation's food but "americanized." There are too many restaurants to name in Vegas, but the nicer casinos tend to have the nicer buffets. If you like seafood, the buffet at Mandalay Bay was great! If you really want to stuff yourself and have a fantastic meal, on Sundays Bally's Steakhouse (in Bally's) offers Sterling Brunch, a buffet that includes lobster tails, lamb, shrimp, king crab legs, filet, sushi, caviar, many other items, a dessert chef, and all the champagne (the good stuff, not 'sparkling white wine') you can drink ($80/person). I've done it twice, and it's awesome!

Art: The Cosmpolitan has one of the largest private art collections around, but I didn't notice much when I stayed there (I wasn't looking for it either). The malls tend to have some art stores.

Theatre: Most of the major casinos are going to have a theatre (or more) with a major show they offer. Cirque du Soleil' Zumanity is good for a quick taste of Vegas, as it's an adult variety show giving you a bit of everything vegas offers (dancing, stunts, comedy, female impersonator, acrobatics).

Animals / Zoos: Mandalay Bay has an all-predator aquarium that was pretty cool. I got to pet a shark when I was there. The Mirage has some dolphins and a collection of big cats. The Flamingo has flamingos (naturally) and some other birds.

Strip Clubs: I like Teasure's if you're looking for an upscale club. I found Spearmint Rhino and Sapphire's too touristy and hostile. Cheetah's can be fun (I've only gone during the day when it's quiet).

Also: I happen to love The Gun Store on Tropicana. It's a shooting range where you can rent a gun and shoot it at mean paper targets. I've fired a variety of handguns, assault rifles, a battle rifle, and one light machine gun there.

I love Las Vegas and I could go on and on about it! I go twice a year and I'm going again in May.

    I vote for Vegas.

Miami is kind of boring after a few days. NYC isn't great for swimming... at all.

Vegas seems to have everything you'd want and more.

You can squeeze in a good 2week vacay with all three! Vegas for clubs, Miami for beach and NYC for shopping!

Thanks so far guys these suggestions are awesome! BOM my hubby is totally gonna dig Mormon the musical! And heat I'm not scared of. Australia is hot, but not humid. Where I grew up in Canada is pretty much same temps year round and NYC tho so I love humidity. My hubby grew up in australia and hong kong so hes used to dry and humid heat too. We had a rainy summer here this year so we are hoping it [email protected]$&king hot hehe.

Lestat - thanks for that info. Omg I'm a real champagne fiend. Hubby nearly murders me cause I love Dom at $310 a bottle here... Can't believe a buffet has all you can drink French!!!! I'm gonna be pissed all week. Predator aquarium sounds pretty awesome too. Our crazy friends from Nashville are meeting us so well probably check out the topless pool! So exciting.

In case my original post is confusing... We are traveling to all three cities. We are there for 1 week in each city.

Scarlett's in Miami is a cool club and all they play is house music.
Tootsie's is also a cool club physically. It used to be a warehouse type store and it is gigantic! Some of the decor looks like a movie set or something. The club itself has a lot of extras, I don't know how that would affect your experience as a customer but just thought I'd mention it. Both clubs have gorgeous girls. Scarlett's definitely has more of a club/party vibe, especially on the weekends.

Sadly that's all the insight I have to offer!

    Miami-
Clubs - SET, Mansion, Mynt, Nikki Beack , Space, B.E.D
You have to also remember July is an off season for Miami so finding a descent DJ might be a little hard
Food - News (for breakfast but it's touristy), BLT Steak Restaurant, Sushi Samba (they have on in NYC great sushi), Prime One Twelve

There are many buffets with bottomless bubbly. Sterling is still the top, but we'll be trying Jasmine at the Bellagio that weekend. I really liked Simon Brunch at the Palms Place off strip. There is a small help-yourself area, but otherwise you order off a menu, as much as you like. Excellent benedicts.

I will let the local ladies provide club info, but I have stayed in most of the strip properties and dined up and down the strip.

Hotel-I suggest either Cosmo, since all their rooms have terraces, as long as you don't book what they call a "city room", or the Venetian/Palazzo which is a nice large standard room featuring a sunken living room. You can check smartervegas.com for discount codes for most of the strip hotels, and sign up at the Venetian website for email deals.

I've been to NYC in July and have been to Vegas many, many times.

Looks like you've got a bunch of ideas already but I'll add some for NYC. I'd definitely stay in Manhattan and take the subway out to Brooklyn for 2 things: Grimaldi's Pizza and Peter Luger SteakHouse. Grimaldis makes a real nice thin crust pizza and you can walk back on the Brooklyn Bridge just for kicks. Lugers steakhouse is considered one of the best in America. The ambiance sucks, they only take cash(!) and reservations are months in advance, but the steak is amazing. There's no shortage of great food in NYC though. If you get a chance, Katz's Deli is pretty well regarded as well.

If you have spare time, you can try to buy cheap Broadway tickets the day of. I can't remember what its called but you'll see the giant line at Times Square. Its quite a bit of time and no guarantee on seats or shows, but you might get a good deal. There are far too many museums to list but I went to the MoMA since it was conveniently located in Midtown. Bring really comfortable shoes too. You'll be walking plenty. BOTM isn't joking about the humidity either. It gets ... sticky. Having a central location to return to and cool down is great.

You can probably buy your whole wardrobe in either city without a problem except for your budget.

You've got plenty of Vegas reccs but I'll make one on a show. Cirque Du Soleil's KA is one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen all but a couple of the Cirques amongst other shows. The stage is amazing and its more engaging and less abstract than their other shows. If water is your thing you could watch Le Reve or O though.

You'll be overwhelmed with food choices in Vegas also. I've eaten at many steakhouses there so let me know if you need a suggestion. If you're looking for an experience, Le Cirque at the Bellagio was one of the best dining experience I've ever had. You can also get a window view of the fountains. You're paying a decent amount for ambiance, service and a view, but its a great experience.

My only advice is not to go to Miami on this trip. There are better cities in the US to visit if you're from abroad. The major appeal to Miami is Miami Beach, and that's really about it.

Heh, I grew up in Miami and even I won't go visiting Miami in the summer. Good luck, & bring plenty of sunblock.

Thanks all I appreciate the info about weather and heat.. I live in Australia guys.... It gets up to 115 F here in summer and dry dry heat. The wind is hotter than the ambient air. Skin cancer rates are 5x that of the states. It's the highest in the world. I'm not trying to be a big fat biatch but I know July is hot. I grew up in southern Ontario. That's why I'm going in summer. I like heat. 86 F (30 C) is not hot at all for me that's comfortable. Sorry to be annoying but just in case anyone else is worried about the temps... No need to stress. I'm aware.

JTD, def visit that site I told you about. I forgot to mention, it's not only NYC info. Those ppl know a lot of hot spots all over the place. Night life, dining, to vacation destinations. NYC, MIA, LV and all over the country/world. You'll get better insight there.

    Have a blast!
