Default Natural oils that will improve skin texture?

I do not like the idea of applying too many chemicals to my skin so I'm opting to use natural, virgin oils such as coconut and olive. What oil will help improve the texture of my face to give me a more even tone, almost like the way a retinol would work? Any experiences and recommendations? I understand diet has a lot to do with overall skin health and appearance but I am also going to use this oil (after work/on my day off of course!) as a replacement for my body lotion.

Hm, im not sure what oil would work like a retinol but I like useing jojoba oil on my skin at night time. Its been really good to my skin, I use desert essance jojoba. I also use an AHA at night since my skins been breaking out for no reason the last two years. Oh and I love protrolium jelly when it gets irritated or dry!

I second vaseline though I use that only rarely and typically before bed.

Shea butter (read up on coloring and smell because some people sell old shea which isn't as good.)

Olive oil is good for really dry skin, as is castor oil. coconut oil is good for oily/acne skin, but it causes your skin to dry out initially before your skin regulates since it kills your skin's bacteria.

Yeah, I don't know any that would work like retinol, but I have used Almond Oil which I really liked. Right now I'm using Grape Seed oil (I switched just cause I wanted to give it a try) and I like it pretty much the same.
My sister works in a health food store and turned me on to using oils for moisturizers, and at first I was worried about it making me looks greasy but it wasn't a problem for me. I use it in the morning and at night.
I use sesame oil on my body after I shower (on days I don't work) and I love it. I've heard it also has benefits with acne and stuff but I've never tried it on my face.

For improving tone and texture of your face I was going to suggest a peel like Salicyic Acid (I ordered some off Amazon and love it). From a quick search the ingredients don't seem too sketchy, and you'd only be applying it for a short period and not everyday... but then it's recommended you wear sunscreen while using it and finding sunscreen without some kind of iffy ingredients is really hard so I don't know if that would work for you.

Origins has a good SPF face one called A perfect world, and Sephora has an organic one with Argan oil but I don't remember the name of it-- it was a fancy brand name but I don't recall. I got samples of both of these to try out after getting the glycolic peel from amazon (my blackheads are a lot more minor) and haven't broken out from them, as far as I know.

Eat avocados. I swear by this. I eat probably 4-5 a week, and my skin is one of the things I am most proud of.

for the last week, I've been trying to drink a gallon or more of water and so far my skin's not looking that hot. I'm going to stick with it, but I'm going to try the avocados. I bet it helps like coconut oil in that since it's a healthy fat, you're less likely to eat junk food. Have you noticed any difference in your eating habits after starting that? I know organic would be best, but which ones do you eat?

I don't buy anything organic. I can't justify the expense and I notice no difference in how I feel. I've never been into junk food (I was raised without junk food and soda), so my eating habits are about the same. I've been eating this many avocados since I was around 19, maybe 20. I'm 29 now. I eat regular old Hass avocados from my local Safeway! I pick the ones that look and feel the best but beyond that, whatever my favourite store has available.

I'm using Josie Maran's Argan Oil from Sephora that I was gifted with, but if I do decide to use Argan Oil, I'm buying a different brand because I don't want to pay extra for Supermodel markup.

Thank you to all that replied. Mediocrity, I took your advice on the avocado. I've eaten one avocado for five consecutive days now, and I can already see an improvement in my complexion. I look more glowy! I've also eliminated processed foods and empty calories from my diet. Thank you so much for this recommendation. You've got me hooked on avocados for life.

Sorry, just saw this. I used the NOW brand. I am also using their Grape Seed oil. Their prices are good, but obviously some things are still going to be more expensive (like Jojoba oil). I don't know if they make Argan oil, though... I would just try searching on Amazon and checking out some reviews of other brands.

I really like Coconut Oil, organic unrefined if you can find it, if not refined is fine as well. I will sometimes mix this with Africa's best oil which is inexpensive (found it at walmart) it's a mixture of like 15 different oils.

I have mild eczema flare-ups but I learned to cover myself in vaseline regularly to help keep it in check. Its great because its super cheap! I rub it all over before bed and wear baggy old pjs so I don't stick to things. It reeeeally makes a difference & also vitamin e oil! I can find both of these at the dollar store. I shave my legs with vit. e oil. I agree with avocados! I eat one every day, theyre simply amazing.

JOJOBA OIL!!! Its fairly inexpensive if you get online from puritans pride or vitacost or one of those cheaper vitamin places. I also like to put it on my ends before i shampoo and it helps keep my ends from splitting. Also pure organic MSM sulfur is considered to be the beauty mineral. I mix a little in with my water when i work out. hope this helps take care ladies!

I also am a savage for avacados! I forgot one oil that I think would really be helpful, emu oil. It's great for just about any skin issue.

Shea butter is good, if a bit smelly. It's thick, good for the body only I'd say.

Vitamin E oil is very nice, the thicker the better. Use on your face only because it's expensive but will last you over a year if you're careful about it.

Jojoba oil is nice, very thin, good for oily or combination skin because it won't do much for dry skin unless you really slather it on. It's also a bit smelly (like potato chips to me).

Coconut oil is my all time favorite. It's relatively thin but is perfect for really dry skin (like I have). Put it on rough patches throughout the day and it will disappear (I had a terribly dry and cracked nose from a respiratory infection and it took less than a day to clear it all up).

Stay away from olive oil. It's unfit for cooking and baking and a friend of mine was telling me about a documentary she watched that said most companies use rancid olives to save money. Even the supposedly good (and expensive) brands.
Vaseline is made out of petroleum (no surprise there) so I wouldn't bring it anywhere near my body. It'd be like slathering myself in liquid plastic.

If you are interested in astringents as well (if you use soaps rather than detergents when you shower I recommend it) definitely get witch hazel. It'll reduce the size of pores, you can use it as a deodorant, it prevents razor burn, and is just all around awesome.

For sunscreen, the absolute best thing is titanium dioxide. It's a powder but you could mix it with an oil or cream. If you don't want to make it yourself Burt's Bees sells one that is almost completely TD. It's a safe mineral, and has been used probably since the dawn of man.

Personally I wouldn't bother with purchasing "products" with natural oils in them. Just go to the grocery store and buy a jar/bottle of whatever suits you and avoid the middle man and their hidden ingredients. If you'd like some recipes for spa and cosmetic type stuff there is a fantastic book called Better Basics for the Home that I've been using for a few years now. It's got everything from pest control to soaps (no nailpolish though, the search continues).

    Hope this helps!

^when it comes to the titanium dioxide, how do you figure out what the spf is? Or, is it just the spf of whatever the ratio is, for example: fifty/fifty mix of TD and oil would be 50 spf???

TD is extremely strong but I wouldn't know how to work that into an SPF. It's basically paint (in fact, many white paints are made with TD). You can see it covering you as it will noticeably whiten your skin tone. I'd say just slather it on as you would any other high SPF sunscreen.

Jojoba oil is the closest oil to our naturally produced oils. This is usually my first choice. If I cannot find it, too lazy to go get it, Extra Virgin olive oil or coconut oil for me

i Just ordered the Josie Maran argan oil from Sephora and im really excited/nervous to use it. I have acne prone skin and i break out around my chin and sides of my face.
Im just trying anything right now b/c it says it helps with acne not so sure how more oil helps but im willing to try anything b/c im so close to giving up that
one more thing to try can't hurt. And i just started tanning again in the beds which i was against for so long and opted for sprays tans so im going to start using it on my chest in between cleavage and other areas that could get dry from the tanning, i dont want premature aging but it also helps with the acne or atleast in the past did. Fingers crossed. Keep ya posted.

Rosehip oil works like retinol. It plumps up the skin. Doesn't cause break outs. Suppose to be great after a nasty break out, surgical scars, stretch marks, etc..
