Och! Iv never used a retin A but I have used skin products that have completely messed me up and dried me out causeing red patches and just ew. I washed it with something gentle like cetifil wash and then put on a layer of protroleum jelly at night. during the day id say wash and sunscreen is your best best you dont want the sun to mess your skin up worse! It should be alright in a few weeks and back to normal.

Are you sure it didn't happen because of the sun exposure from being in Mexico? When I was on Retin-A and was exposed to the sun a lot, that happened too.

I use Redermic, which's retinol. I almost always use a moisturizer after, cause it's so drying. I've been using Eucerin Q10, it's cream, ok for now, but will be too heavy when it gets warmer, & my skin gets oily.

I used to be prescribed Retin A and trust me when I say less is more. You probably know this, but your skin will look a lot worse before it looks better. I don't remember how long it took for my skin to stop peeling because I took it in High School, but for some people it takes a few weeks and for some people a few months. It really depends. A lot of people experience a breakout when they first start using it and your skin is going to peel until you get used to it. The peeling is a good thing since it removes the top layer of skin, but it's difficult to cover up and it looks even worse when you wear foundation on top of it.

I use retin a. You should only apply it like once a day, using a pea sized amount and make sure your skin is dry when you apply it.
I put on moisturizer day and night. They are heavy moisturizers because my skin is very dry.
When I first started using it, my skin did what it sounds like yours is doing. Start applying it every other day and work up to once a day, and continue to use a gentle lotion day and night. Drink lots of water, and use a sunblock. Retin a makes your skin sensitive to the sun.

it's normal to peel (i think) cause it's supposed to bring the new skin to the surface. I used it too for a couple days and then stopped cause it was a nasty sight..

With retin a you're suppose to start off slow. Use it one day then wait a few days(whatever you're derm suggests). Also, be careful with IPLs or any other lasers for that matter. I've read horror stories online. People's faces dropping bc the fat on their face melted & loss of collagen. Yikes
Hello beautiful! I use Retin A as well. You do have to use it slowly at first. Once every other day for a week or two then gradually to once a day to twice a day. A side effect is dryness and peeling of the skin! It is suppos to happen and is a part of the healing process. I stopes and only put in on m actual acne. But I am in the military and this as prescribed to me and these were my net ructions and avice from he doctor. I really does help and wok, but you will be looking crazy for a while. I really don't suggest usin it if you don't have a "bad" acne problem.
I am the naked hustle

My derm says to only use it a few times a week. Not every day. I have acne prone skin though so on the off days I use other products.

I use it once a day, along with a pill to control my acne. I really needed it.
Best of luck BOTM. I hope the every few days help. I know how painful and grotesque it can be!

You're beating the shit out of your skin far too much, and far too early. At your age you need to remember four basic things:
+ Exfoliation: Gentle! I use a very warm (but not super hot!) clean, wrung out wash cloth and move gently in circles. You want to take off the dead skin, not strip your face. If you want a little "mini peel": squash up a half a dozen strawberries, mix with a smashed aspirin, rub gently into your face. The strawberry seeds will naturally exfoliate and the acid from the aspirin will augment the results. Once every two weeks is plenty.
+ Sunscreen: I've worn it every day (no fucking joke!) since I was 15. Stir a couple of drops into your daily moisturizer or buy a moisturizer with it build in.
+ Diet and hydration: Get the processed stuff and chemicals out of your diet. Eat enough fruits and vegetables. Pineapples are great! Papayas, avocados, strawberries, blueberries, pomegranates. Blueberries have the added bonus that they have the same "anti-bacterial" (I put this is quotations because it doesn't work in exactly the same way as an antibiotic/antibacterial) properties as cranberry, but don't taste like crap (I fucking hate cranberry). Bananas for potassium! Carrots for beta carotene! Broccoli and spinach for iron. No fast food. I drink exclusively water but natural juices are great in moderation. Get at least 2L of fluid in you a day, more if you sweat. All of these nutrients are SO important, and your body retains them WAY better from actual food than it does from supplements. I see you like sushi, that's great. The healthy fats and omega 3s are fantastic for your skin.
+ Cleanliness/Abrasion risks: Wash your pillowcase once a week. Cotton is better than synthetic materials. Wash your makeup brushes once a week in antibacterial soap. Conversely, DO NOT wash your face with soap! I have never washed my face with soap, I mainly rinse it with water and use q-tips with my favourite lotion to clean off my makeup, but occasionally I use this stuff: . It's gentle and wonderful.
Hopefully this does not come across as shitty and nagging, but really- you're doing WAY too much, and it's actually going to work against you by making your skin fragile and more prone to scarring, wrinkling and other various damage.
I wanted to add I am in favour of stopping the Retin-A altogether, not suggesting you do these steps IN ADDITION to the Retin-A.

Careful with the IPL, my dermatologist won't do it for me because the Retin-A makes it too easy for the laser to burn the skin.

I was prescribed Retin A because I had disgusting acne, like the kind where people were afraid to stand close because one of my 20 pimples might burst at any moment.
The way Retin A worked for me was that it basically did a peel on my face. It took several days but after my dead skin was all gone I had like new baby skin underneath. Exfoliating is unnecessary and too much while using this cream because it is already peeling your skin off! Please be sure to use moisturizer WITH SPF protection against UV and UB, I strongly recommend Oil of Olay for Sensitive Skin while you're using Retin A. You can wear it under your make up but I'm serious, wear it every day while you're using the cream because it makes your skin extremely vulnerable and you don't want to end up with any spots later.
Good luck and nice tatas.
Be careful with the Retin-A I would cut down to every other day. Also sunscreen and more sunscreen. I have been using it off and on since the late 80's and trust me, nothing works better. Just use it judiciously.
Hey sweet thing! I am a licensed esthetician in Texas, so I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable in these matters! Most dermatologists will prescribe 0.05% Retin-A or, tretinoin, as it's also called. If you want to keep using the Retin A, try this: apply a pea size amount to the areas you want, leave on 30 minutes, then wipe off. Trust me, the formula will still penetrate your skin. Use your retina A ONCE A DAY ONLY, and apply it AT NIGHT ONLY, again using only a pea size amount. Your daily sunscreen should be SPF 30 absolutely if you are using Retin A daily. It's ok to apply a night moisturizer after you apply your Retin A, if you have sensitive skin I would do it nightly. If your skin is really looking like a dinosaur, use your Retin A about 2/3 times a week. *ALSO*: if you really are having problems, stop using prescription strength Retin A and switch to a drugstore retinol. A retinol is a gentler formula but will still work if used consistently. Try something from RoC or try Neutrogena the one in the silver bottle. Stop exfoliating completely while using Retin A, the formula is exfoliating enough. And don't wax your face; stop using Retin A for at least a week before hand if you do. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have other skin questions!

Slather on myocin I think it's called. it's a type of antibiotic ointment that's petroleum-jelly based. Or I think it's called Mupirocin. It's great for when your skin has a burn on it from waxing, and you don't want your skin to be left with a scar. After a few days of applying a thin layer of it twice a day or whenever it dries up, your old damaged skin or scab will come off...and then your skin will start healing again.
And like everyone said, do the sunscreen. At the very minimum, put a layer of petroleum jelly or the Mupirocin on first, then the sunscreen or else you might be burning your skin because it's already a bit raw from everything else. Try wearing a hat or a visor when you're outside.

Ugh, Retin A was an absolute nightmare on my skin. The effects of it didn't go away fully for like 3 weeks and I had only used it for a few days. To help with my skin getting back to normal I used Eucerin Ultra Healing lotion.
My little story for other people in this thread with bad acne: When puberty hit when I was around 10, I started getting the world's worst acne. I remember once being in this store and having an angry stare-down with this girl in a mirror that kept staring at me.. but it was my reflection.. my face was just so fucked up that I completely didn't recognize myself. I had tried every over the counter product and none of them helped. Then my dermatologist prescribed me Retin A and also some prescription wipes. I used the Retin A for one day.. woke up the next morning and my face was on absolute fire.. I called the doctor to see if that was normal and he said yes and that I should put it on once a day. Well, I put it on once a day for the next 2 days and on the third day I was in school having to go to the bathroom every period to pick layers off my skin that were falling off on my desk. I was like a snake. Talk about embarrassing being in high school with all your friends asking you why your skins falling off. Anywho, I used a wipe on the 4th day and that was a mistake. I remember just crying because it hurt so bad. I never used a wipe again and I stopped using the retin A because I couldn't deal with the peeling while I was at school. My skin stopped burning but kept peeling for a couple weeks. The skin I had then looked better since it was "new" but then I started getting new breakouts too. -___-
After that I just accepted the fact that my face has acne and I stopped being so worried about it. Then when I was 18 I moved out of my immediate familys house and into my grandmothers house for college. I noticed my acne got a lot better when I moved away from my family. I love them and all but you know how the people closest to you can annoy you the most sometimes. Then when I was 19, I moved out of my grandmas and into my own apartment and after that my acne basically went away. So stress (caused by living with people since I'm a bit anti social) was the main trigger for my acne and no cream can help me with that. Now, I'm 21, still living alone, I work out a lot, I don't eat fast food, I drink water all day and liquor all night (if I'm working), only put vaseline on my face when I'm not working, and I only break out a little and only during my period. My skin used to be really messed up and scarred but my new healthier lifestyle has made my scars look light-years better. So the point of my rambling was that there's hope for your acne even if creams and medicines haven't worked for you.
You should only use a pea size amount on the entire face, and stop when it's too dry, skip every few days until you get to the point where it's not peeling/dry as much. Only apply at night on dry skin, and moisturize mineral oil. Then slather on zinc sunscreen before you head out for the day.
I use Retin A 0.1% nightly, and my skin tolerates it fine.
I have to look good for a long time, and this is the only effective solution to aging at this moment. Work with retin A, you have a lifetime for great skin, but the sales are more important for now.

I've been using retinol about four to five times a week for the past two weeks. My skin hasn't started being awesome yet but it does feel a lot smoother and there's the tiniest bit of glowiness there.
You can moisturize thirty to sixty minutes after applying and it helps prevent redness.
Also, any waxing of your face should be avoided unless you've skipped retinol for 1-4 days
prior. I read that the wax cannot be super hot or stay on longer than three minutes or else
you're risking ripping off layers of skin.
I've waxed my eyebrows once and my lip once and avoided retinol for 24+ hours beforehand and
tried to not leave the wax on too long. However, be careful and consider only tweezing or even shaving.
