So after a 3 yr break, I'm getting my old dancer stuff out from the boxes and seriously think about going back. A girlfriend who I danced with and myself checked out a different club last night. The housemom was super nice, said I could start whenever I was ready. My question is how do you develop & maintain thick skin in this business? Is it something that you just learned over time? I left dancing 3 yrs ago to get sober. I've maintained full sobreity for 3 yrs now.But when I used to dance my feelings were covered up so I'm a little nervous of how I might feel. I have full intention on staying sober, I have a great support network in my personal life and I'm back in school. Plus I know I'd make a lot more money sober than when I was drinking. So anyway, how do you act/react when someone says or does something totally not cool? Do you just let it go in one ear out the other? I'm wondering if developing thick skin is something that you practice on or does it just come with time? Thanks girls!

I started dancing with a bit of thick skin that seems to keep getting thicker the more that I work. I think it just takes time. Let it roll off your back. When a customer comment gets to me or irks me I just remind myself "Ok this guy is a douche and Im not his cup of tea, theres plenty more guys who would love to pay for my attention in a respectful way, NEXT!" Thats really the truth! If the guy does something really crazy, I can always grab a bouncer or manager to put him in his place. I think, at least for me, most guys are polite and only a few are straight up rude to your face so I dont spend time worrying about it. There have been times when I was in a bad mood and said something back, but its only gotten me more money. I think they were embarrassed and think throwing money at the situation makes it go away, but I wouldnt recommend yelling at a customer, lol.

You should do the same. Keep your eye on the prize and tune everything else out.
