Default Juggling school and stripping. Advice ?

Hi. I will be taking interest in the medical field, pursuing my Associate Of Science in Pharmacy Technology, then moving to my Bachelors of Science in Human Physiology or Biology and a Master of Science in Respiratory Care. I just got great feedback from a manager wanting me to start tonight (The club I applied at is two hours away though) of course I would have to dance to commit to strictly dancing on weekends outside of school, and I'm worrying about this greatly conflicting with my achievements in my studies as it has before even when I danced locally. So should I just pursue at home webcam modeling instead of the hassel of traveling back and forth to and from the club, getting a hotel for that weekend in that city while also keeping updated on school studies ?

I found it really difficult to keep up with college work and work at the club three nights a week and my club was only half an hour away from me. I think that making the two hour trip there and back twice a week would definately have a negative impact on your studies and in the long run your education and career are going to make you a lot more money than what you're going to make in the club. You can always work at the club after you've finished education if you really need to. Realistically even if you get a hotel room you're only going to study half the day maximum after sleeping/getting ready for the next shift. You could try it out for a month at the begining of the academic year when your work load is not going to be as heavy and see how it goes.

Personally I would stick to web camming. You don't want to regret not achieving the best you could have in your education.

Holly, thank you so much. I am agreeing with you being that an education is something you shouldn't take for granted, especially in this circumstance being that dancing will always be here if need be.

At the moment im also mixing studying and dancing. Sometimes dancing can be a nice break from studying so it is possible to do the two together, but when your workload gets heavy (like exam/deadline season) your time gets REALLY valuable. and it will get you really angry and frustrated having to waste all those hours in the car. When you have an assignment of whatever due and your sat in traffic you will just be sat there thinking 'i could be doing my assignments right now' then you will start to resent dancing, getting in a bad mood at work, not making money and its all just stress that you dont need! If this club that is far away is good, what about just working there during the holidays? Otherwise i would try and find somewhere a bit closer. Good luck with your work! x

Do they require you to have a schedule? If they don't then if you're totally overloaded with exams to study for, homework and all that, then just don't work that weekend. IDK, I must say though getting a science degree is a lot of work! Trust me, I have a BS and I wouldn't have been able to drive that far every weekend. If they'll be flexible then maybe it can be something to do one or two weekends a month to get the bills paid, every weekend though I think you'll wear yourself out. Good luck with your science courses!!!

I and plenty of other ladies have balanced school with stripping. I think the most important thing is to put school first. If you have a class on Friday mornings or an exam coming up, no matter how lucrative a shift may be, skip it. That can be frustrating sometimes. I also think its important to try and treat stripping like a job in terms of making a schedule for yourself and sticking to it so that you plan schoolwork around it accordingly - but to also embrace the flexibility of the job and cut back during heavy school workloads. Don't feel bad about skipping shifts for school or not working very often; the beauty of this job is that one shift can give you enough cash to get by for a while, especially if you're a good budgeter.

I do agree with what others have said about the 2 hour commute though. That'll really speed up burn out when your time is already so precious.

Nikki I believe they might require a schedule, from looking at the dancers schedule's on their website, it looks like you have to dance atleast a minimum of four days a week. But of course I was going to try and workout strictly weekends. I like your suggesstion of maybe two weekends a month when I'm confident my work is completed.. just have to weight the pros and cons if my potential earnings will exceed my expenses for gas and lodging there. and thanks for the luck

    Ugggggghhhhhhhhh.....

Two hours away? Lord have mercy...

Okay, as a stripper that worked throughout my college career I can assure you that the biggest problem that you are facing is the time required to travel back & forth.
    Four hours... per trip.

That is certainly the most taxing issue.

As far as making this work out I suggest pushing through the commute and working to the max during off-peak months. Work as much as possible before and after midterms/projects/finals. Cam during the more rigorous points in your schedule. Also, consider dancing locally again if it takes too much of a toll.

The fact of the matter is that you are dancing to get those degrees. Those degrees, dreams, and aspirations take priority. Let the club know that you are on an intensive track that requires that you prioritize that which is truly important. They can't fault you for that. Some clubs I've worked in required a schedule but were flexible with dancers who attended school. You're doing the club a favor by showing off your sexy-bits but it is a transitional vocation. If they have ANY sense, they will understand. Also, you might consider telling them that you will work more often during spring/summer/winter breaks. You needn't follow through... just show the club that you're enthusiastic and that you will work when circumstances allow.

    Best of luck.

It really depends on your work load. I study veterinary and there's no way I could do a 2-hour commute weekly. The degree takes up minimum 65 hours of my week and really I should be doing more. Of course there's no way to pay for uni without working though. But just expect to never sleep and constantly be on an 11/10 for stress levels. It does make work feel like child's play though and it is a nice break to not use your brain... But that 2 hour drive... Eeeeek! Can you do it every 2 weeks or study part time for a year and build up a massive savings to get you through a couple semesters of full time?

I thought this thread was going to be about going to juggling school. Like circus school, or something.

Can you get other transport instead of driving? I strip at a club three hours out of Melbourne, Australia and I find I get so much study done on the train ride! Education first!!! I've been caught up in the clubs too many times and nearly jeopardised my career but luckily i have good friends to tell me when i'm working (partying) too hard

I danced all through college and made enough to pay for college, living expenses and save some money. All without any financial support from my parents and without loans.

Most educators will tell you that you should spend two to three hours of study time each week outside of class for every hour of instructional time. I aimed at two hours. Thus, in a 15 hour semester, I was looking at 30 hours of study time and 15 hours of class time for a total of 45 hours per week. IU had a four day schedule when I was there with classes lasting 90 minutes each. They have since reverted to a five day week with 45 and 90 minute class schedules. I liked having Friday without classes. So, I scheduled my classes for Monday through Thursday. I would get up early on Monday through Thursday, have a good breakfast and go to class. I committed myself to classes or studying on those four days. I would stay late at the main library or the B-School library Monday through Thursday nights, if need be. I had a laptop that was configured to log into the school's network, so I could study from my apartment too. My roommate and I did not have cable and we both agreed that we'd have no distractions Monday through Thursday unless it was a lover. In that case, in the bedroom, please!

That left Friday for catching up/cramming/writing papers or whatever. At IU, Friday is a traditional party night. Sometimes I would dance instead. Fridays were good nights to work. I danced in Indianapolis, so it was about an hour drive from Bloomington. Sometimes, I'd dance in Louisville about a two hour drive from Bloomington. If I made the Louisville trip, I tried to do a Friday and Saturday. With that schedule I was able to make enough money through the semester to keep my bills current and have a little spending money.

Summers and Christmas break, I would work a four or five day schedule either in Louisville or Indy. Summers were the times when I made the most money just because that's when I was stripping focused. I would save money like mad all summer to pay my tuition and have some money saved up to carry me through to Christmas. IU had a nice long Christmas holiday always two weeks and usually three. Again, I'd do four or five day weeks at the club. Again, Christmas time was stripper focus time.

The negative to that schedule was social life. I had almost none. In four years of college, I think I went to maybe half a dozen fraternity parties. Maybe a few more off campus parties. I went to one Little 500. (Big whoop.) While I am not a party girl, I was not a virgin when I went to college. And, worse, I really like sex. So, not having a lot time for boyfriends was a drag. Made even worse when I'd come home from stripping and my roommate was having her way with some dude! I wasn't celibate during college, but there were long stretches where I had only my toys to play with. That, I would change. I'm just not sure, even now, how I would work in more sex partners to that schedule.

hahah, me too! I think that I figured maybe she was a feature or putting on elaborate shows or something.

I used to travel for work but would stay there for a while. I know people who do a 3 hour roundtrip. I guess it depends on how worth it it is. Maybe you can get a friend from your area to start going with you? Share driving responsibilities?

I feel the need to point out that, after graduation, in order to actually work in the field of Pharmacy or Respiratory Therapy you will need to obtain a professional license from your state. Part of that license approval includes a 'professional' conduct requirement. Thus it's very possible that when you apply for these licenses after graduation, the FBI level background check performed by your state licensing agency may turn up the existance of 1099 automatic income reports issued by strip clubs or adult webcam hosts. If so, this probably won't prevent you from getting the licenses, but your history of 'adult' industry work i.e. 'unprofessional conduct' will be clearly noted in your professional license file - a fact which will also be immediately available to any prospective future employer who checks the status of your professional license during a pre-employment background check. Upscale hospitals will probably 'lose' your job application as a result of the professional license check ... but that doesn't mean that a prison hospital, WalMart pharmacy, or inner city clinic won't still be willing to hire you.

Four hours of driving per shift will cut into your study time in a major way. Is there a local club you can work at?
