Don't go for a fad diet or diet pills...if you want to change your body make a lifestyle change...It's simple, eat healthy and work out...and don't necessarily pay attention to the scale, pay more attention to the way your clothes fit etc.

Vegan (raw vegan now) + lots of water. Running plus yoga. I've done all the diets, pills and the lot. It does not work. It only wrecks your body and you will end up where you started.

I got a wee bit gordita after my BA. I did the Paleo diet and cut out all bread, pastas and tortillas. It worked.

You have to eat less/better and exercise, but there are specific things to do to make this easier and therefore more effective.
Like if you eat enough protein/healthy fats and fibre, it keeps you fuller longer than just eating carbs. And drinking water throughout the day helps to keep you full.
I'm pretty chubs right now, but when I have lost weight in the past I used the "french lifestyle" type method. The books on this are super annoying and elitist, but it's a good premise. Basically, stay away from low-fat anything and eat whole foods in moderation. For example, it's better to have a slice of home-made fresh bread with a small pat of real butter than to have a "diet" granola bar full of sugar, but that is low fat. It's really changing your mentality and realizing that you don't have to eat ALL THE FOODS but higher quality foods in small portions.
I lost 40 lbs in college on the Atkins diet, and I have kept it off for years even though I am a vegetarian now. My nephrologist recommended I go on it, and he was monitoring all my blood levels. It didn't make me unhealthy in any way.
I worked as a weight loss consultant for Jenny Craig for over two years, and that program really does work if you follow it but the food is expensive ($100-150/week, plus you have to buy your own fruits and vegetables to supplement). I tried Jenny Craig for a few weeks to get a feel for what my clients were going through and I absolutely loved it, plus I lost several pounds. I only regained them because I drink like a fish.
As for exercise, Tae Bo worked wonders for me back when I was in high school and gave me a very toned and strong look, but the thing that has worked the absolute best for me as far as exercise is walking. A couple of summers ago I bought a pedometer and made it my mission to walk 20,000 steps per day every day. That's the equivalent of 2-2.5 hours per walking/day. I guarantee that if you walk 20,000 steps consistently on a daily basis you will become incredibly lean in practically no time. For someone of average weight, 20,000 steps will burn around 1,000 calories. In fact, I just recently started using my pedometer again but I am only shooting for 10,000 steps per day.

If your dead serious about dropping weight and getting in shape, do P90X. I did it last summer and my body has never looks as in shape as it does now. Im currently doing "CHAlean EX" right now, little less intense as p90x but still kicks my ass. Basically Im following it to a "T" and I have a protein powder I drink every day after a workout. Also just cut out carbs, only have 100% whole wheat bread, have a lotta egg whites, plain yogurt, fat free cottage cheese, fruit smoothies, unsalted penuts, dried cranberries/raisens, chicken, fish, veggies. For snacking I usually have this awesome huge dessert, you girls should try it! Its fat free pudding (chocolate/vanilla) then a cup of fat free jello then on top of that of course fat free cool whip...it is sooooo good and you get so much, tastes like ur having cake or somethinglol
Weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise. Abs are made in the kitchen! So just try to eat clean (avoid processed food) and get a good mix of cardio and strength training. Doing only cardio will actually eat away at your muscles and give you that 'skinny fat' appearance.
If you really wanna shape up, I'd try Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, it gives great results in a short time and is a great way to jumpstart a fit and healthy lifestyle.
Diet pills don't work, they only make you shed water weight you'll gain back as soon as you stop taking them. Aim for food high in fiber, they'll keep you fuller, longer. Eat complex carbs(whole gains, brown rice, lentils) before exercise and protein(fish, chicken, turkey) within 2 hours after working out. Also, drinking 2 liters of water a day helps keep the weight gain at bay is one of my favorite sayings. That's how much your body needs, otherwise you'll retain water cause your body doesn't know when it'll get more
If you like I can send you a healthy eating plan that I did. It's a 10 challenge that's meant to change your eating habits and I lost 6 pounds in just over a week.
**I'm taking my group AFFA cert this fall and my personal training cert next spring, so I've been studying nutrition and exercise a LOT.

lol wut?
I seriously suck at dieting. I've accepted that this woman just likes to eat! I've always gotten super fit doing Tae Bo. I just had a baby four months ago and am trying to get my hips tighter so I'm doing the Brazil Butt Lift workout. It's tough, but it'll get ya results. I like doing dvds just because there's no real excuse not to do them. Although that doesn't stop me from trying...

Okay, first let me get this out of the way...do as I say, not as I do. I say...exercise and eat right
Okay, I hate exercise, I always get all gung ho about how Im going to do it, but Im much better at the planning to do it part than I am at the actually do it part. I do however try to not be a total lazy bum...I purposely park far away when I go out anywhere..the walk is good for me, plus theres always open parking spaces, so Im not driving around forever wasting gas trying to find a close spot. Also, when I got this apartment, I purposely chose an apartment on the third floor, and I use the stairs. That pretty much sums up my exercise routine if you wanna call it that.
Food does play a *huge* role though. You can hit the gym 5 times a week for an hour a day, and not lose a pound if you dont eat right...but you can eat right, never hit the gym and lose weight. Theres a lot to be said for what you put in your mouth. That being said...a couple years ago, I lost about 30lbs by cutting out all processed/packaged foods. I still ate whatever I wanted...as long as I got my butt into the kitchen to cook it. I dont own a microwave anyway so the frozen packaged meals arent my thing anyway, but even beyond that...I made everything from scratch....from bread to mayonnaise. No low fat, no sodium, diet anything...because all of that is processed too and I didnt count calories. I eat meat, but I dont cook it, so by virtue of that, I was also a pescatarian during this time. Took about 6mths, but I lost 30lbs and even though I went back to eating like total crap (weeks of eating fast food every day, 3am runs to 7-11 for a boston creme for instance lol) I still kept the weight off for almost a year before it started creeping back on again.
About 2yrs later, Im back at needing to get myself under control to lose weight again. This time Im going about it in the worst way possible....I know it. Im living off of Red Bull, usually two or three a day. I dont have any appetite, but I still try to eat at least 3 or 4 times a day for my metabolism...really small meals though, I have a few bites and I feel crazy full. Then once a week I eat a huge meal to reset my metabolism. Ive been doing this for about 2wks now, and have lost 6lbs so far.
Im also trying to drink lots of water to flush my system and keep hydrated, something everyone should do anyway. At first my body was holding onto the water like crazy...I gained like 4 lbs at first, then that totally fell off and I went on to lose the other 6 from where I originally started. I do know I want to start walking more, at least for half an hour a day...I dont wanna be thin and flabby, which at my age is something Im scared of. Once I actually do start doing that, then Ill have to eat more anyway to so that I have the energy and something to burn off, and in turn Ill be eating healthier. But for right now...if I hit 200, I will just die, so yeah, doing bad bad things.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I just started the EC stack today (which is ECA stack without the asprin). I'll let you guys know how it goes. I feel obese and I need to lose 30 pounds.
Anyone who doesn't know, the ECA stack is 20-25mg of Ephedrine, 200-300mg of Caffeine, and I'm not sure how much Asprin but I'm skipping it.
I know I made the comment about "diet pills" but I still won't lose weight unless I eat properly and exercise.
I definitely see what you're saying. I remember a girl on here who had Wilkinson's disease and she said no matter how much she exercised or dieted, she couldn't lose weight. It's the same the other way around too. I gained 30 pounds when I was broke and eating McDonalds dollar menu everyday. My boyfriend ate the same things as me, and he lost weight. Most people should be able to lose weight by diet and exercise, but not everyone can.
Good for you, losing 30 pounds, by the way.![]()
I definitely don't mean this to be insulting, so don't take it the wrong way. But I'm on my very own "Use Your Brain" diet. It's super obvious what foods are healthy and what foods aren't. So I eat the healthy ones and exercise (100% cardio on my elliptical + lifting my own weight on my pole). When I first started trying to lose weight, I worked out for about 50 minutes 5 days a week on my elliptical, and noticed pretty extreme results in a few weeks (I lost all of my baby fat).
Going off of birth control was huge for me (check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility).
Specifics on food: I eat a lot of anti-inflammatory foods (sushi with salmon, chia seeds, olive oil, green tea, ginger tea, etc.), stay away from sugar, cow products, gluten, and meat. And I eat nearly 100% organic foods.
Aside from that, I don't limit myself. When I pay too much attention to my diet, I freak out and do stupid stuff like eating too little, then eating way too much, etc. So instead, I surround myself with wonderful foods that I want to eat that also happen to be healthy for me.
What I eat a lot of these days: Homemade sushi, miso soup, green tea, gluten-free crackers with goat cheese, garlic-stuffed olives, tomato soup, bean soups (can o' beans, garlic, vegetable broth), rice cakes with goat cheese or peanut butter, brown rice pasta with jarred marinara sauce, salads, kiwis, oranges, grapefruits, celery, carrots, roasted vegetables, smoothies (berries, almond milk, banana), gluten-free cereal, trail mixes, etc. I love making quinoa-based dishes.
That being said, if I'm craving something, then I listen to my body and I buy a responsible version of whatever I'm craving (hell, sometimes I just indulge and buy whatever I'm craving so I don't end up fetishizing it and eating way too much of it). Breaking my sugar addiction (I went raw for about a year) was crucial to becoming this in-touch with my body. I can tell the difference between a real craving and a craving that will pass and should be ignored. Having a food processor is a critical appliance for my diet. I can make my own soups in second, smoothies are a breeze, etc.

This is something I have always believed in, and people look at me like Im nuts. Whenever someone sets out to change thier eating and set the pace with something they can stick to, the idea that they will never have another bowl of iced cream, another bite of chocolate, another beer, another whatever is just crazy. I think its a lot smarter, if someone has a craving or taste for something, to get the taste, and like you said, there are some good alternatives, but even if not...just have a bit to get it out of your system and overwith. Way better than obsessing over wanting it, feeling like youll never be able to have it again, and then breaking down and having as much of it as possible. Balance and moderation...
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!

I was paleo for awhile with more meat and weight lifting and gained weight/bulked up.
Raw vegan/Ann wigmore style food is great for initially cleansing your body and kicking cravings.
To lose weight I agree with BOTM that not eating breakfast and sticking to one main large meal a da
Y helps. Stick to low fat (watch out for salads! Most dressing is terrible) high fiber, nutrient dense foods. I like Charlie's list...all those things are neutral ph and anti inflammatory. There's a whole science between inflammation and water/fat retention.
Elliptical is easy on the knees and my body looks way more tight when I do it 2-4 times a week for a half hr min. I also love yoga and bikram can get you visible results fast. (motivating!)
And #1: don't stress! I had a thyroid issue some time back and my health was vey poor...I was always stressing about losing the 10 lbs I put on (in two months...which had NEVER happened before) but once I stopped obsessing over the weight and focused on getting healthy it all dropped off.
Birth control is something that can really mess up your body. I have be on the depo shot and I gain 10lbs, I would work out and eat right lose a few lbs and continue doing
good but end up gaining it back, thankfully its starting to wear off and cant wait to actually lose it for good.
Also like to mention the fact that yeah weight loss pills don't make you lose weight but they definitely give you motivation to work out!! So don't not take them because
you know it won't work cuz in a sense they do![]()

The breakfast thing I dont know about...thats something that kicks your metabolism into gear for the day. Thats why when you do eat breakfast, you tend to be hungry throughout the day..because your body is in burning mode and wants more stuff. Thats where making the right choices is important..its better to "graze" and eat a lot of little meals throughout the day, than one huge meal.
I know everyone is different though. Im at an extreme where if I dont eat breakfast, I tend to not feel hungry for the rest of the day and dinner will be the one time I finally eat anything...and that only cause kiddo says shes hungry and I realize I should eat something. I can go for a few days only drinking coffee and tea though. When I get like that...instead of losing weight, I gain weight super fast, cause my body holds onto every meal I do eat for dear life.
Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink!
Not directed at any person specifically but I just wanted to pointed out 'healthy eating' and exercise isn't technically the only way to lose weight
I am not saying that this type of diet is healthy or even recommend it but both of those things are a moot point since we are just talking about the concept of what works in weight-loss.
How I lost the weight was to just eat 10 calories less a day and then as I got used to it reduced my calorie limit more and more, but that is only what worked for me. I personally think that people just get too caught up in 'the right way' and doing it perfectly all the time, not to mention getting there fast.
As long as you are doing something, doing something that you can live with and you are doing it consistently then in time you'll lose weight. Whatever way you chose to get there is all up to you.
