I'm averaging 1200-1700 calories I think and all it's doing is maintaining my weight, which is borderline overweight.

You should google intermittent fasting. It's the newest theory on weight loss..... It's all based on eating one huge, calorie/protein heavy meal per day, or every other day. One super ripped guy has a blog about it, where he breaks down the exact science, how your body uses calories, and how many are burned whilst digesting food, and how your insulin levels really don't swing up and down, it's a misconception. Very interesting stuff.....

    Didn't this hurt you longterm?
Because I could do something ridiculously low calorie-wise but I'm worried about when I bring my eating up to a normal healthy level, like 1200-1700 when I'm working out the same.

For me I am my slimmest when I workout about 4 - 5 days a week. I do an intense dance workout that I created myself. If I do this exercise routine and eat 3 meals a day that are about 400 - 500 calories each I can maintain a dress size of a size 4 - size 6. My meals consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts/seeds, and lean protein. Also, try to drink only water. This helps cleanse your system, keeps you hydrated, and regulates your hunger. Sometimes when you feel hungry your body is actually thirsty.

What has worked best for me in the past: Gluten-free, making my (regular) workouts 80% weights 20% cardio, and dancing 4-5 times per week. Consistently. The rest of the stuff is the obvious, like eating more vegies than anything, lots of frozen blueberries, water, green and herbal teas, rarely drinking alcohol, etc.

when i stick to 1200 calories a day, 3 meals and 2 snacks I lose weight but I find that once I start to diet when I'm at a lower weight my weight won't budge even if i'm restricting more and working my butt off. sighhhhh. i got stuck at my lowest weight for the longest time ever and started to gradually up my intake until the 2 months in which i was overeating, like 2500 calories a day and i gained 10 lbs. now i'm trying to drop that and 10 more. i have a terrible feeling that it might take more than the 1200 a day because i'm near my 'natural' weight

I look the best when I work at least 5 nights a week, don't work out or maybe a little cardio (I know it's weird but I just look leaner) and eat moderately good and the last meal before I get to work. I can even drink every night I work if I want but I'll look so much better than if I am not working, but dieting and working out.

For me it was as simple as intense pole work, healthy eating (everything in moderation and smaller portions), and replacing all caloric drinks with water.

I'm going to have a weekend of totally fattening, yummy food and will continue my "lifestyle" change when I get back lol. I live in a military community laden with trails, gorgeous fit men and a free gym so it's easy to get into the groove. What's helped me previously was to eat smaller portions. I would limit myself to lots of veggies, turkey (Jennie-O 100% white meat turkey burgers were yummy to me once I got over the first initial shock) fish and chicken. I got addicted to Chrystal light instead of sodas and juices. I also worked out 4-5 times a week doing cardio and strength training every other day. The weight came off fast and I felt amazing. All I did was stop using huge plates and switched to the smaller ones, made sure I had more veggies on my plate than meat. I wouldn't deprive myself though either, if I wanted a burger and fry I would give it to myself and I never binged. Moderation and cardio works best for me.

I think that dancing can fuck with the metabolism. Whenever I quit I lose five pounds...I don't know of its the bad sleep, late nights, dehydration or what but I SHOULD get skinny when I work out AND dance but I lose when I only do yoga and don't dance. It's weird. It's like it sends my body into panic mode. My boyfriend always says sleep is critical to weight loss and I'm finally starting to realize the importance of circadian rhythms in health.

I'm going to compile all of your smoothie ideas and start trying them out!

I'm too lazy to see if anyone else responded to this, but I use sensodyne, it helps a lot. Like my teeth used to hurt from breathing through my mouth it was so bad, and I don't have any problems now really.

It could just be stress...I know cortisol (stress hormone) puts fat around people's bellies. I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard.

"Under stressful conditions, cortisol can provide the body with protein for energy production through gluconeogenesis, the process of converting amino acids into useable carbohydrate (glucose) in the liver. Additionally, it can move fat from storage depots and relocate it to fat cell deposits deep in the abdomen (8 )."
