I wish ..
So do I![]()
I bought 7 tickets and nothing
Hey I just heard no one won the jackpot. So IT'S GOING UP TO ALMOST HALF A BILLION.
National Headlines : $476,000,000 ALL TIME HIGH BREAKING THE RECORD FOR HIGHEST LOTTERY EVER. Odds of Winning is 1 in 173 million. GET YOUR TICKETS!!!

WOW!!!! The attention winning THIS lottery would bring would be absurd. Didn't quite catch it but I think they said the lump sum payout would be around 340 million. Seriously, I can't even imagine. Think I will wait and win one around 10 million and slip under the radar !!!!!

^^^ lotsa luck slipping under the radar in regard to a gov't payment of lottery winnings ! Your 10 million win would equal something around $6.5 million as a lump sum payout. Federal and state income taxes would then consume half or that amount !

I'm right 96% of the time.I don't sweat
the other 5% .......................

^^^ no argument, but the point was that receiving 50% of 6.5 mil = $3.25 mil after taxes, versus supposedly winning 10 mil in the first place, hardly constitutes slipping under the radar !
Yeah 6.5 million is still 6.5 million. I say stay positive who knows what could happen for the lucky person that draws that ticket.
Actually the jackpot jumped to 500,000,000 Cash Option $359,000,000. Yes 25% Goes to Federal Taxes and depending on your state you may have to pay percentage there too plus even maybe some additional down the line.
For example Louisiana takes 35% that goes to the state treasury. So 35+25= 60% being taken from the winnings right off the top
But if you're in Washington you don't pay state tax at all but the retailer gets 7% of the winnings.
Again who could ever be mad when the few dollars you put in turns you into a Millionaire!!!
^ I thought it was interesting that Melonie automatically thought he was talking about tax exposure. My understanding (and I may certainly be wrong) was that he was referring to the white-light glare of publicity, which would presumably result in unwanted waves of folks knocking on his door for handouts. "Under the radar" implies not attracting their attention.
I'm also baffled by this hyper-allergic response to taxes. It's like your own body over-reacting to an allergen and killing you.
That makes you dead. No fun, that. So your estate pays out at a lower estate tax rate. Congratulations! We'll engrave that on your headstone.
If you are rich in the U.S., honestly, you are lucky beyond the wildest dreams of all humanity. And that includes all the caveats of it being the result of hard work, dedication, brilliance, blah, blah, blah. Bullshit. It's at least 50% luck. In the case of a national lottery, it's 100% luck.
Nobody works harder than the single mom in some lean-to shack in Mississippi.
So yes, you will pay more in taxes than everybody else, a LOT more, sometimes a shit-tonne (metric units) more. And often more than 5x or 10x or 20x what many professional people in the U.S. even earn in a year. So the fuck what?
Pay The Man and get on with your dream of a life.

If I won the lottery, I would tell NO ONE. And I would continue to appear to live a pretty modest lifestyle. If questioned, I would be "living on my Aunt's property" or something. People turn ugly, evil, or desperate when it comes down to money.
...But in order to even win, you have to buy a ticket, right? I meant to do that when I turned 18 just to say I did, but I never got around to it.

I'm trying.![]()

I'm right 96% of the time.I don't sweat

Even if you don't win the jackpot winning the amount just under still will be alot of money!!!!
I'm Type B! lol I don't see the glass half empty hell in this case it's still OVERFLOWING!

yes, but what's unseen is the fact that Americans paid out well over a billion dollars to buy lottery tickets from the gov't in the first place to create this jackpot. The gov't kept a large share of that 'off the top', and put up the rest for the prize pool. After the fractional prize pool is 'won' and paid out, the gov't then steps in and reclaims half of that in taxes. Net result is 2/3rds of the money that Americans originally paid out staying with the gov't. But hey, all you need is a dollar and a dream, right ?I'm Type B! lol I don't see the glass half empty hell in this case it's still OVERFLOWING!
It's now $640,000,000!!!! This is unprecedented!!!!
I'm with Melonie on this one and totally Type A. The double-dipping they do on these things just doesn't sit well with me. I'm greedy.
Only a few hours left!!! Hope whoever wins has a new wonderful life ahead of them!!!
