    Question Hair deep-conditioning

My hair is naturally dark brown, but I color it light blonde at home using L'Oreal Blondissmes and occasionally getting it topped up with highlights. I straighten it every night that I work, and it's really dry and feels really dry to the touch as well. I'm trying to grow it long too, but it never seems to get past a certain length even though it's definitely growing because my roots grow in, so I guess the ends are splitting and breaking off eventually. I try to deep-condition it once a week by putting a ton of my hair conditioner in it, and wrapping my hair in a towel and leaving it in for an hour or so before washing it out. I'd like to find some kind of good extra conditioning product that I can use at home, either from a store (but preferably not something bank-breaking) or a home remedy. What has worked for you guys?

I'm also thinking of getting a deep-conditioning treatment as a one-off next time I go into my hair salon for a trim, but I'm due to color my hair at home again so I'm not sure if it's better to do it before, so my hair is healthier for the coloring, or wait until after? Is there a specific type of in-salon conditioning that's better than others?

Hmmm... You may want to look at what type of conditioner you're normally using, and how often you use it. I have really long hair that I dyed black for a long time and the only way I kept it hydrated was to condition it pretty well daily. I'd get in the shower, shampoo, wring out my hair a little, work conditioner through it, then twist it on top of my head for the remainder of my shower while I shaved my legs and whatnot. Aquage has several really good conditioners that you can use daily, like the healing conditioner. It smells really good too. Tigi S Factor Diamond Dreams is probably one of the best conditioners I've ever used, but it has more of a bubbly noticeable scent that I tired of quickly. I think Aquage may be somewhat cheaper, but a big container of either is going to cost anywhere from ~$15-35, depending on which one you get and the size. You'd have to find them online, through a salon, or get someone you know with a cosmetologist's license to pick it up for you. Rusk has a deep conditioner that I've used as well and really liked.

On the cheaper side, I like Ion's Repair Solutions packets found at Sally's. They're sold anywhere from $.99 - $2.50. I like to put a towel in the dryer while I moisten my hair and apply, then wrap it in the warm towel for an hour or so while I surf the web, do the dishes, etc. I've been using them for after-dye treatment for a while, but especially after I bleached my hair a few nights ago.

I am trying to grow longer also. I had to chop two inches off because it was so freakin dead and split because I style it so much. I changed my shampoo and conditioner. I *try* to use less heat when I style my hair. I am also going to try a homemade avocado mask to leave in my hair, I hear good things about it, but I keep eating all my avocados!! :/ Also, my hair is a little on the thinner side, a hairstylist told me a wide-toothed comb should be my best friend to keep my hair from breaking. Over two months, my hair is looking better. Id like to know what salon treatment is worth doing too!!!

^^ How does the mask work, dya just mush up some avocados? I don't like them so I could get them into my hair without munching them, no problem lol!

If you google, youll find plenty of simple avocado mask recipes if you want specifics. All of them generally say to mash up a couple avocados, saturate hair & leave in for a half hour and wrap it. Some say to put extra things like honey or lemon juice, salt, etc. I'm gonna keep it simple and use just the avocado. I read its easy to wash out and doesn't leave a noticeable smell in your hair & that avocado oil is easier for hair to absorb. Can't wait to try it, just another reason for me to love avocados!
