    Default Re-Inventing yourself

    Hi fellow cammers,
I've been camming for 3 months now..and I'm interested to know if you cammers re-invent yourself every so often ?? Is that possible ? My first couple of weeks were hectic and I wondered if it's worth donning a wig and having a new name and new profile in 6 months time ?
Or do you find that the longer you cam, the more regular clients you build rapport with and you continue to earn good amounts ?

Thanks for your time and attention.

While camming was only a part of my overall marketing effort, I found that sticking with one successful 'persona' tends to build valuable repeat business. That's not to say that you shouldn't 'enhance' that successful persona with time ... thus blonde hair becomes platinum, thus 5 sets of progressively larger breast implants etc. Doing this seems to achieve a favorable reaction ( and renewed spending ) by guys who already like your persona, plus reaches out to attract even more attention thus new 'customers'.

Over the years I have known a few girls in both the exotic dancing business and the camming business who have COMPLETELY changed their personas. This involves risk ... since you're getting rid of a persona that some guys like a lot, in hopes that your new / different persona will ultimately attract more / different 'customers'. In many cases these girls wound up better off after the change, but in some cases they did not. The degree of risk is a function of how popular your current persona is already ! Where doing this as an exotic dancer is concerned, if you 'cut loose' guys who liked your old persona better, you're only competing against 10 or 20 or perhaps 50 other girls working in the same club. But doing this as a camgirl means you're competing against 10 or 20 or 50 THOUSAND other girls ! Thus if you are having a fair amount of success with your current webcam persona, and have established some base of repeat 'customers' already, you may want to think twice about making any drastic changes.

Regarding the whole concept of 'persona': Sure, it's all well and good to try to project a certain 'image', but keep in mind that there is only so much you can 'fake'.... your true personality will always shine through whatever 'persona' you create, to SOME degree.

So having said that, try to identify the regulars that you already have, and make it so that you take them with you when you make the switch. Get their e-mails, tell them your new screenname, etc. (Unless maybe you are changing your 'handle', too? I don't know... you''ll have to decide for yourself if it's too weird to tell a guy who thought your name was 'Cindy' that you are now named 'Raven'.) The customers who like you for YOU will be your bread and butter, no matter what your screenname or haircolor is.

I agree with Melonie that sticking to a persona is valuable. That said, you are new, and when you are new sometimes it takes a few tries to get it right. Heck... I created a new screenname once (when I was already a few years into camming, so I really have no fucking excuse... lol) that ended up being SUCH a huge mistake, that I ended up having to recreate myself and start from scratch a while later. It was painful, but through that trial-and-error I finally made the right changes and am doing better now than I ever thought was possible.

So yes... when you find something that WORKS, there is value in sticking with it.... but also keep in mind that FINDING the 'sweet spot' takes trial and error, so if you identify something in your M.O. that just clearly isn't working, don't be afraid to toss it and try something new.

Thank you for the advice. I'm really glad I've found this site as I'm just starting to realise how hard it is to get advice from friendly peeps.
With regards to changing my name, I changed from Juicy Lucy to a more posher sounding name, and that's worked well :-) I'm really looking forward to reading a book emailed to me by a member on here. Think it's about influencing people using NLP. I've got some really high paying guys that spend an age with me on cam, and want to make sure they keep coming back. What I have found useful is keeping a notebook with all my high paying guys user names, and then any info they divulge i write it down. So next time they drop by, I can say something that i've written down like How was the bank meeting you went to, the last time i saw you ? And they think, wow, she's remembered me, and i suppose it makes them feel special.
