Default I Need Advice, Don't Shoot Me :)

I've been camming on SM for a few months in the Transgender category. When I first starting out, I was making decent money but it's been so slow lately. I took a few weeks off and now I'm having such a hard time since I feel like everything is going downhill.
I have a fairly new laptop Mac computer but my internet upload speed is only at 0.21mbps. Is that pretty bad? I've asked custies in free chat and they said my cam is fine. Maybe they're not being honest with me? I tried watching myself in a different window and it looks pretty blurry, not very clear.
Do guys think my internet speed is the main problem? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read

Internet speed is very important for camming because the worse your speed is, generally the worse your live feed is. Unless you have a crappy camera. To put this into perspective, my upload speed is 3.75 mbps and I hardly ever have problems with my camera quality. You might also want to check out this thread to see what other people's speeds are and how they compare:

I would say that probably the problem is your upload speed, but if your guys are happy, maybe you're fine for now until you can get better/new internet service. Hope this helps a little

My feeling is that you have a crappy cam. Which one are you using?

In my mind, crappy cam = blurry, crappy upload speed = choppy, but not necessarily blurry.

    Anyone else? :-/

My upload speed isn't too great its about a .9 and i don't have any problems with it, if you run the encoder you need a minimum of a .6 upload speed for it to run smoothly. Since you said you have a new mac I'm sure your video feed isn't affected by the computers processor. I'd suggest calling your internet provider and asking if you can upgrade your package and specifically ask about upload speeds since that's what we use. Certain webcams can also degrade the quality of your feed but I'm not sure which one you are using.

I am using the built in cam on my Mac which is isight. I think my slow internet bandwidth may be the problem.

I think that both your cam and your speed are contributers!! My upload is 2.75, and I STILL wish it was higher...0.2 is really slow for camming - it won't change the way that the cam looks, but it will create a bigger lag, and it may create issues with choppiness. You also won't be able to use the encoder, and the encoder helps with your placement. To check if you are lagging, sign in, and then open your cammodels.com link in another window so you can see what you are streaming. Say something, and wait to see how long it is before you hear it on the cammodels window. There will always be a slight delay, but you want that delay to be a second or two. Any longer than that, and most guys won't stick around, because they will assume you are ignoring their questions because they don't get an insta-response.

As for the cam, built-in webcams are just not really high enough quality to keep guys coming back! They are also harder to create the best angles for a flattering shot (in my opinion...I like to move the cam around and don't always keep it on the computer...).

So - call and up your upload speed, and buy a new cam. Then just work as much as you can! Good luck!

Thank you! My Internet provider can up my internet speed up to 4mbps. I think that should be good.
How will I be able to use the encoder? I tried what you suggest and there was a few seconds in between response. However, my cam looks really blurry. I need it to be crisp and clear. I'm gonna get a new cam as well.

Thats a HUGE jump! Awesome - it should help a LOT! If your cam is blurry, you definitely need a new cam - most girls I know use the logitech 9100 or similar models (don't get the orb. It looks awesome, but it sucks!!). That will be much clearer, and then you can use the encoder which will get you a great image. You just download it from the site (that big banner that says - want to make more money? Stream in HD - click here!) and then read the instructions from SM on how to set it up. It seems complex at first, but it is actually really easy, once you get the hang of it.

Thank you for your help! I will stop by Best Buy to get a better cam.
