Default Canadian Camgirls: Bell announces Fibe 50

Heyos, darlins! I hate to advertise but I thought those of us in Canadaland needed an update about our internet, seeing as how we have so few options out there at the moment.

Camgirls in any major cities/towns that are serviced by Bell, keep an eye on your DSL providers. Bell has rolled out the new fiber optic plan: Fibe 50.

    FIBE 50
    100 bucks a month
    50Mbps down / 10Mbps up
    100GB/month
Bell's "Usage Insurance" at 5$/40GB (This is basically "add 5 bucks to your bill and we add 40GB to your cap")
If 100 bucks a month is out of your price range, they also have the 25 package, which offers up to 7Mbps upload speed. Being able to finally stream HD with no bandwidth issues makes me a very happy girl.

    FIBE 25
    60 bucks a month
    25Mbps down / 7Mbps up
    100GB/month
Bell's "Usage Insurance" at 5$/40GB (This is basically "add 5 bucks to your bill and we add 40GB to your cap")
    Why am I posting this?

In Canada, we can get internet plans with plenty of download speed, but the upload speeds we have access to are generally poor. The normal upload speed in a "High Speed" package on Cable or DSL internet is about 2Mbps. No matter how much extra you pay for a "better package", the only thing they really raise at that point is your download speed.

For the same price as a package in other countries that provides 5-10-20Mbps upload, we still get ONLY 2Mbps upload. No, I'm not joking.

We're camgirls. We rely on our internet's stability, and quality. The Fiber Optic lines, which I have experienced myself, provide a much smoother streaming experience and more stable speeds.

I'm not advertising Bell specifically. In fact, I despise Bell with an undying passion. But it is their lines, and they're the ones that'll offer the best support on it since it's newer. They may not even be offering the option to use it to their re-sellers yet (it WAS just implemented after all)

Unfortunately Bell does not offer this service to those of us living in the suburbs. I checked, my area is not included. This service is only available to those that live in certain parts of the major cities.

I will also add this about Bell:

see that sneaky language "up to"? That means anything up to that point. To give you an example I was on their fibe 16 package where it says *up to* 16 down and *up to* 1 up. This was their highest service available in my area. BTW my area is not exactly "small city/town"... its a suburb of Toronto and it has around 500,000 people living within I would say a 50 km area. Its only a 30 minute drive to downtown Toronto in good traffic. Anyway I was only getting 10 mbps down and 0.6 upload. I called SEVERAL times to see what the issue was and was told that there is no "central office" in my area so that was why my speed was so bad. Ironically Clairington (which is around 40 or so KM from here) has a central office, which is a much smaller area and is not a suburb of Toronto, but my area as populated as it is does not? WTF is up with that shit?

I switched to Rogers and have no complaints so far. I pay $100/month for their Ultimate package. Great service and I have only had an outage that lasted more then 1 hour once. With Bell there were constant outages. $100 gets me 75 mbps down and 2 mbps up.

I hate Bell with a passion ever since I had to deal with their shitty-ass customer service back in 2006. However, this is good information if I ever want to have a super-baller camgirl set up, so thanks

    Thanks for the info!

That said - that actually doesn't seem like a great deal, compared to what I have right now - and I'd also like to know if the quoted prices are those darned "introductory" prices!

I am with Shaw (I love you Shaw!!) and they have some AWESOME deals.

To compare - Bell is advertising 10mbps for $100? Shaw has 15mbps for $110.
    Their $60 7mbps up sounds better, as Shaw's $60 is 2.5mbps.

But even with that, I switched from a "standard" plan to the shaw $60 plan, with "up to" 2.5, and I usually get around (wait, let me speedtest for a sec) oh look! 2.75!! No idea HOW I am getting better speeds than I pay for, but Shaw is one of the few companies that I have dealt with that don't advertise "up to" and then give you half, or a quarter, and a bunch of crap about "ideal situations blah blah blah".

I've also found that 2.5mbps is plenty for streaming - I have NO lag (or, well, maybe a split second) most of the time and great quality. As much as I want to be greedy and have ALL the upload speed - I think that 2.5 is fine. : )

I've also read a lot of threads talking about how difficult it is to get decent speeds in the UK, so while I know we don't get the best deals here in the great white north, we definitely aren't the worst off, thankfully!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

    Bell kinda sucks.

For Internet, unlimited for $60-$70 monthly with Teksavvy. Activation fee of like $100 (not sure exactly). No contract.
    I love Teksavvy.
Customer services sucks but it is truly unlimited. And it's great upload/download speed.

Unlimited bandwidth too ... I really love that there are no limits

    Hmmmm..I'd never heard of Teksavvy..

Looking at their website, it looks like they only go up to 2.5mbps upload speed, and their download speeds SUCK - only up to 25????? It also looks like they charge you for service calls (nearly a hundred bucks!!), $50 to activate plus $85 for the modem.....and they specifically say that shaw account holders have to cancel their accounts at least a week before hook up.

So....A week without internet or the ability to work, $135 to set up, plus $100 every time there is an issue? And with all that, its only $5 cheaper a month than what I pay with shaw for a waaay higher download and the same upload speeds!). Based on earning $1000 a week, if I switched, it would take me nearly 19 years before I made up for the switch in money saved. No wonder I've never heard of it! LOL

I second this. I have seen Shaw's offerings and I drool over them. But fuck me I don't live in an area covered by Shaw. So Rogers it is.

Teksavvy seems kinda whack. They don't offer any more then "up to" 1 mbps up and 16 mbps down in my area. Totally shit.

I haven't heard of Shaw, but I should check it out.
Maybe it's a different upload/download speed in different areas. It worked great for me, I was webcamming, my roommate was a gamer, and there were two others who used the internet. I never had a problem camming.
Download and upload speeds don't suck at least here.
Yeah it costs money to activate which sucks.
$85 for the modem ... if you have a modem already, you don't have to buy another one! lol
I've used Teksavvy once, my boyfriend has used it three times in total. He had an issue once and never had to pay. So I'm not sure what this $100 fee is, we've never had to deal with it.

@Charlotte - what did you have to show them to prove that you were a student? That's awesome!!

@innes - I guess its all relative, I would consider 25mbps downloading to be pretty bad - I like to have 50 and up. As it is, for some of the stuff I do, 50 is feeling too slow. And having 25 as the maximum advertised is a red flag for me - you should be able to get much, much higher - 25 is a starter or an average for many companies! Although it is a more reasonable upload speeds. And for a modem - shaw and many companies provide the modem, but you have to return it at the end of the contract, so if you are with them, and you switch, you would have to buy a new one. I much prefer that the modem belong to the company - then you get constant free upgrades, and always have shiny new modems without having to pay more!

What about Telus? How come none of you Canadian cam girls use that? I have a plan for $55 that gives me ...*checks the speedtest* 23mb download and most importantly 2.8mb upload.

I upgraded from a 1.0mb upload for free. I called them and said I wanted to upgrade but didn't want to pay more. Cocky or what? lol And they went with it. Yay!

and I use it via wifi from across the house on a different floor :p

Honestly, I can't complain. Although once I am set up to have my own place I think I will definately look into this bell plan

I personally don't use telus because when I did, I had nothing but problems!! I had it for about four months a couple years ago, and I actually had connection for maybe six days in that period. They didn't end up charging me anything (because I refused to pay it!!!) but still! Thank god I was still dancing then, and not camming, because I would have been in the poorhouse! That experience just put me off completely.

Also - with your example, I have the same upload speed and DOUBLE the download speed that you have for only $5 a month more. The $5 I would save wouldn't be worth the worse service (from my experience!) and half the download speeds - I download a LOT.
