    Default Am I too old?

Hi. I am new. I have been considering getting into stripping cause I am in debt and have kids to raise. I am just worried I am too old. I am 37. I do have nice natural looking fake boobs and I am slender and working on toning up at the gym. But I am afraid I will be laughed at if I even try. Have I already passed the prime?

not in my book ! Keep in mind that the majority of upscale strip clubs customers are NOT in their 20's or early 30's anymore ... they're 'established gentlemen' in their late 30's or 40's or even older. And many of them are not 'comfortable' with dancers young enough to be their daughters, with young dancers who are totally 'disconnected' from their world-view etc. Thus you're positioned perfectly to capitalize on this changing market demographic.

Not necessarily. It is maybe a little unusual to start later but not completely unrealistic. I work with a wide age-range of girls: from 19 to 40 somethings. I started at 30. No one laughed at me about it. I'd say give it a try!

No you're not old! I'm almost 30! I hope I can still do it at that age. A lot of guys love older women instead of the younger dancers. You just need to know the angle you want to go.

It is true that older guys in their 50/60s do not get along well with 18 yr old girls cause they feel weird! I have seen it cause I have been dancing since 18 and I am now 25. I wear a lot of makeup to look older and try to be very sophisticated to attract older clientele because they tend to have more $ than 20 yr old guys...and more polite in my experience. You may have trouble with young 18 yr old douchebags but honestly there is always one asshole at every job I've worked at even in an office! So do not be discouraged.

I worked at a club where there was a woman who had to be at least 50. And looked it. She made money. In my opinion, if she could do it, anyone can.

37 is definitely not too old, as long as you know how to work your look. If you try to look super young, you might end up looking silly. Own your age and find a look that works for you. You may also want to lie about your age slightly just to keep things in the fantasy realm (if you can get away with it).

I have seen women in their 40's look better than the chunky doughballs in their 20's. The older dancers (well most of em) know they can't afford to pig out on that Big Mac and large fries and skip the gym. As long as you look good and take care of yourself go for it.

Go for it. What do you have to loose? And if one club says, "No." try another club. If you really want and need the job don't accept no for an answer. But keep in mind that 'making money' as a stripper is work, it can be stressful. I mean... I have had guys try to rape me during private dances. So.. go in eyes-wide-open and don't be disappointed if it turns out to be a job that isn't as glamorous as you may have thought. It is a way to survive and do well. I love stripping and I hate it. It's a love/hate relationship.

THanks ladies! this helps. My only problem now is getting in a little better shape before I apply. I figure being older, I will have to be in excellent shape for them to consider me

^Don't assume that! Also once you start dancing you'll tone up just from that. Give it a shot..keep going until you find a place that fits you. 37 is definitely not too old- I work with ladies much older than that, and they do extremely well, and don't look 'perfect.'

It's not to say that you'll have to be perfect but be aware that you're competing against nubile 18 year olds. If you look good fuck it! Just go in with your eyes open and be aware that it is going to be rough. D'you have any plastic surgery done? Plastic surgery is not a prerequisite but it can be helpful. There is a thread somewhere on older dancers and de-aging or some shit. It was pretty helpful.

Who said being in shape is bad? She was worried about "not being good enough" and I was just assuring her that while it's good, its NOT a must, depending what club/area you're in. Having a great personality and hustling skills goes MUCH further than looks, anyway.

Regardless, OP, don't worry and just give it a shot

I hate the whole "don't worry, you'll tone up dancing" bit for two reasons:

    A) it's not necessarily true ( depending on how much you drink, how much moving around you actually do etc)
    B) it's caused lower expectations. You should go to your audition looking your best.

Personally, I think 37 is too old to start as a newbie. The industry isn't as friendly as it used to be. Its a lot to navigate, a lot of trial and error. It's a whole different world and I think it's easier to get all your initiation in and grow your thick skin when you're young. Its hard to explain what I mean.

We have a dancer who is 54 working in my club. She does pretty well. The older gentlemen LOVE her! She stays in shape and takes really good care of herself. The majority of our dayshift girls range from 28-45. All very beautiful, well groomed, graceful, and experienced.

I agree it will be very difficult to start off dancing over the age of 30. You gotta have a thick skin in this biz. Most newbies, from my experience and observation, are very clumsy and green. However, they can pull it off usually because they are under 25 and "cute". Just be prepared for the emotional and psychological toll that dancing WILL have on you. Practice as much as you can dancing. Read as much about seduction and grace as you can. And if you do get hired at a club, be prepared for you self esteem to be tested..

I say go for it tho! Do it, see if you like it and see if you can bank! You only live once! Men love women of all ages and sizes. I am 29 and I feel like I am in my prime. I am only getting more attractive the older I get. Try banking on your age by wearing age appropriate outfits, make-up, and jewelry. Nothing screams like "trying too hard" as a woman who is well into her 30s trying to fit in with the 18-21 year-olds.

The answer also heavily depends on the club...so take that into consideration. Some dives are catty and difficult for older dancers, while other dives are laid back places that would be very accepting. Upscale clubs - some are big enough that no one cares about the new people, while others are competitive enough that everyone becomes a target for judgment.

I feel like I should add that while a good number of managers will be ok hiring an experienced 37 yr old, many will be very hesitant to hire a completely new 37 year old. Make sense?

I think I am pretty good at selling myself and my strengths. Do you think an in person ddiscussion with the manager would be better for me then the generic online app they have? I don't look 37 so maybe I can just push the 30something and then sell how I will appeal to older men.

^ Yes. Call and see if they have open auditions, or set up an 'appointment' to audition. Ask if they're hiring for any dancing positions (as opposed to just holding an "amateur night," where they might not actually have open spots on the schedule).

I think if you feel confident you should totally try it out but Mediocrity brings up a good point. It took me over two years to get to a place where I really felt comfortable and like I understood the job. I guess what I'm saying is that if you're naturally more of a reserved, shy, or thin-skinned person like me it may be hard starting at your age.

I think maybe people are over thinking this....it's quite possible you'll walk in, audition, get hired and have no age-related "problems" at all.

    Most likely, yes.
To be completely honest... the vast majority of 37 year old women aren't likely to be hired as dancers.
I'm sure this varies by area... but I've danced in more than one city and while I've seen older newbies audition... I have never seen one get hired.

OP, without knowing what you look like no one can tell you whether you will be hired or not. Yes there are older dancers in the business, but like mentioned most are long time dancers. It is a very hard business and as you age you will not have the stamina that a younger woman likely will have. Also, while you think you look young, you might not look good enough. Finally, there are many clubs that do have age requirements. If it sounds like I am being cruel, I am older (though mostly retired)and while I know many dancers who still work, many more are finding themselves being pushed aside by younger dancers. A few years ago (I am 41)I was offered a dancing job after many years of not being in the clubs and found that I wasn't at my best anymore, though I still look amazing.
