Last year I had a friend do them, but this year I'm either going to do them myself or have the Tax Domme do them. Any advice?

I use turbo tax home and business the last 10 yrs i have been doing this.. But often times I do not know what to write for toys and such.. of course you guys that is a big red flag to the irs you know?? I am pretty sure it is... I would like to hear suggestions of what you write off and what you put on the form??
/raises hand
turbotax here. never had an audit. it runs me $139 this year for federal and state together. its pretty thorough and simple to do. quite honestly i just guestimate on my write offs. i now i probobly shouldnt but i dont save my receipts.

LOL i do the same thing.. I get a 35% discount from bank of america and I also pay extra for the auditing services... so with my discount it only costs me 75 bucks... oh my!! I am always nervous.. the auditing services are only 29 bucks and i think it is well worth it.. because they will do all the bullshit with the irs if you do get audited.. No time for that..
I used to work for H&R Block so I do my own always have since I was 18. I'm super-conservative with my deductions, and I do keep separate accounts for business and personal use.

I Just did mine for the first time. did it online all on my own. It was easy really I just added up my earnings and typed it in a box. Im not deducting any costs cause all i use is a webcam and a pc which was a gift from a customer anyway. I hope thats all i needed to do. My tax bill was £1900 for the entire year in which I made a total of £17000 I added it up on a tax calc and it came out about right so I guess I did it right. Oh and all i said was that my business was Untitled and I was a model.
If I use it work I do deduct the reasonable and correct percentage. I make sure it passes the housewife test. I do it because that is the way it should be done. I've known people who were both more and less conservative than I, that have be audited. I do my taxes with the expectation of an audit, and I make my choices based on what I think is defensible. I would not deduct the Betsey Johnson heels I bought even though I only wore them in clip. Not going to fly and it should not. I err on the side of conservatism because it makes me feel better.

another vote for TurboTax Home & Business ... also have been using it for the past ~10 years or so with zero issues.

Any UK girls doing their taxes on their own? (Possible Dumb Question) - Is it easier to do taxes by yourself in the UK than the US? HMRC make it seem easy with their whole "Do it online!" shtick, but yeah, I don't know whether to trust that or not.
Is there any kind of UK TurboTax equivalent?
Nope, not from AdultWork. The company is based somewhere else (not exactly sure where) and I get paid daily pay through PJ. I tried putting it in and TurboTax told me I needed there tax #, which when I contaced PJ she told me AW doesnt have one since they aren't US based.
any canadian girls use turbo tax successfully?
Next year will be my first year doing taxes for camming... and I want to be prepared >.<
So, at the risk of sounding dumb, what exactly do people like.... makeup artists do? They buy a LOT of makeup, and it's a LEGITIMATE business expense. As a matter of fact, if a girl doesn't wear any makeup at all in her real life, or any stockings, or any of that, but she DOES use it on cam, on the request of her clients, then I think NOT allowing her to write that off as a business expense is total bullshit.
I have shoes that I bought on the request of a regular that I have NEVER worn off-cam, and quite frankly would never be caught dead in, in real life. How is that NOT a legitimate business expense?
I filed an extension. I have until october to go through my receipts with a fine-toothed comb, WITH my tax profession, and write off every penny I possibly can.
OH... FYI, if you have a tool or piece of technology or whatever that you use for work but it was a GIFT, like the webcam example above, yes, you CAN still write off the cost of that piece of equipment!

As mentioned in other threads, the 'housewife test' would allow writing off makeup purchased from a theatrical supply house, but would NOT allow writing off makeup purchased at a local department store. The difference of course is that 'housewives' routinely buy department store makeup with absolutely no business reason for doing so.what exactly do people like.... makeup artists do? However, another IRS rule is that expenses which are 'ordinary and necessary' to conduct your business may be written off. And obviously this often conflicts with the 'housewife test'. While there is no tried and true answer as to what to do when such a conflict exists ... which it often does for things like gym membership, tanning sessions, shoes etc. ... one common practice is to write off 50% of such items

I must be a shitty housewife, I only wear makeup on cam.
On a more serious not thank you Melonie for all your great business/tax advice.

thanks, but always keep in mind that I'm just a dumb blonde with big boobs versus actual attorneys, CPA's etc.
It's past my bedtime and I'm drunk... haven't read through the thread but I just want to say... I've been attempting to get financing for a new car these past few days and one of the main things they wanted was tax returns with schedule c's (for your business) PREPARED BY SOMEONE ELSE. Everyone has been very pleased that I had tax returns that were done by an accountant and not myself as proof of income.
Ciao.
Interesting.
My accountant can lie just as easily as I can. I give her the figures and she puts them on the form. My signature is on the form, and I'm the one the IRS is gonna come after if I am audited. She doesn't ask for receipts (though maybe she should?)
For the record, I do NOT lie on my taxes. But I find it interesting that they assume your figures will be correct if someone else prepared the form.
I can see the point of your post tho. It might benefit you financially to have someone else prepare your forms. Was just making the point that someone else doing your taxes doesn't mean that they're 100% correct. I guess they figure you'll be less-likely to lie to an accountant?
