Default Ever just randomly move to another state?

I really have no clue where to post this. To be blunt I have a lot of money. I have to be out of the place I am staying at by the end of April. I do not want to stay in my state I live in now (Minnesota...) I keep thinking I want to go to Arizona. I am really open to any suggestions though!

I don't have a car. I need to find somewhere with great public transportation. Has anyone ever done this before? Just pick a flight somewhere, pack your shit, and leave? I just don't want to live in a nasty city. I would ask my friends. I am trying to keep this to myself though. I need a change so bad. Anyone have any advice? I would really appreciate it.

Yep, picked up and moved to New Orleans when I was 18 with about $500 and no friends or plans. I don't recommend this, though. I still say the only reason it worked out was because I was too naive to know that there are reasons you don't just do that without at least a little forethought.
I also traveled around for a few years, so you could say that I moved to about 6 new places in 2 years.

Do you have friends in any cities you would consider living in? If so, they can help you find out which neighborhood you'd like to live in, look for apartments for you, and other good stuff. If not, try researching your preferred city online a little bit. Look at things like apartment ads (to see if it's in your financial range), locations of hostels (you may need to stay in one for a week or two before you find a place), jobs (unless you are planning to cam for 100% of your income).

If you can, try to save up at least a couple thousand so you can pay first and last months rent at a place that costs around $750/$800 and still have some money to eat with. Pack light. You don't need to bring a ton of furniture - you can get that when you get there either at a secondhand store, garage sales, or off the curb (I got most of my stuff that way). If you can store stuff at your parent's house until you get more settled, then only bring the necessities. You don't need to bring every item you've collected in your life so far. Packing light serves two purposes - it will be easier to move via train or bus, and if you have to stay at a hostel at first it won't be so hard to find a place to stash all your stuff.

    Good Luck!

I've done it about 7 or 8 times. I think it can be really rewarding IF you're good at thinking on your feet.

I second Denver. Arizona is nice but the public transportation is shitty. Atlanta is good if you want somewhere cosmopolitan with hot weather. Portland has great public transportation and is really quirky and cool. Charlotte is super nice but I don't know anything about the PT.

Oh, and as far as good cities - I love Seattle and the public transport is great. It's not at all what I would call a "nasty city". It is a little pricey (apartments are more like $1000/month and up, I think), but you said you're okay money-wise.

San Francisco is a great city too, but it's a little "nastier" than Seattle. Or at least, it used to be - I think it's bougied up a lot recently.

Austin is cool, and I think the public transport is not bad (but I actually don't know that much about it - haven't actually lived there). There are a lot of fun things to do both in and outside of the city.

I lived in Tucson for a short while and hated it. You might have a totally different experience, but I would not recommend it to anyone. The surrounding area is beautiful, but the city itself...meh. First of all, I had a really hard time making friends, and I do not usually have that issue in new places. Plus, the city is pretty small but spread out, so without a car you're going to be stuck in the very small downtown area, which gets boring quick.

Thanks everyone. I will check out Denver and see. I did live around Atlanta for a little bit a few years ago. I was out in the suburbs though.

Why stop at the US border ? And especially so if you have a lot of money !!!!! There's a great big world out there, and lots of places aren't obsessed with taxing you to death !

    I non-randomly moved to another country !

I have picked up and moved before, can't imagine doing it in the states without a vehicle though.

Houston is good, but no place to rely on public "transportation". Houston is a city made for people with cars. You said you have a lot of money, buy a car.

Never another state because I enjoy San Diego and I live in NYC 3-4 totally throughout the year. So no need.

However I did decide to live in Rio for a bit when I was 21. My days consisted of training (I fight), surfing/sitting on the beach, partying, and Brasilian women. Did this for a while. Highly recommended. Though if I did it again, I would go to Florpia over Rio.

Update- I just bought a car. I suppose I can go anywhere now. I couldn't buy a car before because I was in a really strange living situation.

    Texas.

If you don’t mind Houston, you could rent J. D.’s spare room. Apparently you would be sandwiched between the homosexuals and the billionaires.

    I did ! I moved to a much warmer state .
I subleased my apartment in my old city out. After successfully avoiding 2 winters ...it might be time to come home. The boyfriend found about the sugar daddy ( non-sexual ) and it all turned to crap haha. However ... before he found out, I was making good money, had a fabulous sugar daddy, and had a tall and gorgeous boyfriend! I had it good.
If you want to do it, you totally can. If it seems less intimidating you to rent your space out instead of packing it all up, do that! Just get your space totally cleared out and nice looking ( leaving only furniture, no knick knacks ) and roll out !
