Default Can't afford to go back :/

When I got better after my respiratory infection I went back to the club and made nothing. I'd forgotten how much the house fee was and had to borrow $5 from the doorman. Three old guys who wanted to be with me for free later and I just wanted to get out of there. I ended up selling a fake phone number to a guy who was, "Friends with all the guys who own these clubs." and got out of there (to play Mario Galaxy and cheer myself up).

I know that doing well one day and shit the other is something to expect so I wasn't upset about that. Guys trying to take advantage of me because I don't wear dental floss and am new was what pissed me off. I want to go back during the night but I can't afford to pay the house fee and the mounting tip debt I owe the DJ/security guard if I can't make any money. So I'm signing up for camming and waiting for some guaranteed traffic to come to the club (friends and friends of friends which I'm def. not going to rely on and didn't ask for and don't think I'll allow after the first time) before I go back.

Some questions I have for you gals:
    1. When I was leaving one of the door guys asked for 10% of my earnings. When I said I made nothing he let me go but I'm wondering if he was trying to scam the new girl or if that's really a policy of theirs. Is it normal to pay a house fee and then a percentage on top of that? If that is a real but uncommon thing then I'm definitely looking for a new club. I'm not paying $40 plus $5 per VIP dance PLUS 10% of my total earnings PLUS tipouts. That on top with one of the regulars saying but not saying that this was an extras club would be two or three things more than I need to find a new club.

    2. Have any of you not been able to afford to go back to the club? How did you get around this?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Some clubs have house fees and take a piece of each dance plus 10% dj tip. It's not unheard of. Welcome to the wonderful world of exotic dancing. Everyone feels entitled to a piece of your money
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.

do not give any money to anyone unless the manager has told you to specifically payout that person a certain amount or %.

Yeah I was going to fight it even if I did have any money to give. I'm not about to just randomly hand out money.

I tip everyone I can unless they are really an asshole (which includes demanding money). I hated tipping bouncers at my previous club because they just stood outside and didn't do shit, but at my new club they flag down a taxi for me and let me wait inside until they have one, so I tip them. I always tip my bouncer because they will make your life hell if they don't like you and play shitty music.
I think that bouncer sounds like an ass though. You're new, and he still shouldn't demand money. They know if it's been a good night or not, and they know you're new.

I told the guard who escorts us that I owed him $20 for that day and when I come back next. He smiled and said that was fine. I have no idea if other girls give him money but considering his job is to maintain my safety I'd feel like an ass if I didn't. The DJ only played me one song (there were a ton of girls and I left before my second set) so I didn't feel the need to tip him. If he brings it up I'll give him a 5 or something. I'll call management before I go back and ask about the 10%. If it turns out that's a normal thing I'll audition at another club. That's just way too much money to hand out for basically nothing.

Yeah, definitely find out from the manager who you have to tip. It's possible that it's not mandatory but all girls do tip him, and it's also possible he was trying to be sneaky. Maybe it makes me the bitch, but I don't tip anyone I don't have to, unless they've actually done something special for me. I'd rather keep my money to myself and rely on my own hustling

If it doesn't say in my contract that I have to give them money and they don't do anything beyond their job description for me, then I don't give them money. I had a manager try to tell me I owed him and every other manager on shift at minimum an extra $20 each night I worked the first time I went to that club. I decided to go elsewhere, because he was clearly drunk/high and there was no bouncer. I ended up going back a few months later and nobody ever mentioned another mandatory tip besides house. However, when the drunk/high manager heard I tipped the DJ (to stay off stage), he wanted more money too. He approached me twice looking to collect it and I brought up the part of my contract that states I am in no way obligated to tip any other employee. He mumbled obscenities at me and threatened to fire me, blah blah blah. Fuck him, he gets a salary. And fuck the other people who try to hustle you. If that door guy seriously got an extra 10%, then he'd get a twenty from every girl who made $200. After ten girls, he would have made more than the actual dancers he collected the twenties from. If they want your money, tell them sure, they just have to get naked in some strange man's lap for a song or two--no big deal.

That's outrageous! Why would anyone put up with that? Even if I was making $1k a night AFTER house fee/tip outs/percentage I'd say it's too much. As it is right now I literally don't have the $40 to make it in the door so I'm going to have to find other ways to make money.

Op, idk what city you're in, but many of the clubs in my area offer discounted house fees if you show up early. Like, club opens at 11AM, so if you're there and ready at 11, you'll go in for $5 or free some days. There's another one where the first five days are free for new girls and another that has a discounted house fee for students. Maybe you should call around and see if you should spend a few days getting back on your feet somewhere else.

DD: That's the problem with Capitalism. I remember an ex-friend of mine telling me about the gist of her husband's business class and it was basically, "fuck over everyone, get money."

Tuesday: This club has discounts the earlier you get there and free if you're one of the first three girls. I came in during the day so it was $25 not the night price of $40 but I made jack shit. I suppose in this situation I should get there as early as I can and then just attack every guy who comes in the place haha.

It seems to be touch and go. A customer who was a regular there told me vaguely that it's an extras club. I haven't personally seen anything so maybe he was just talking about how the girls go about things. They are *very* sexual. One woman who this guy new well just went up and jostled his junk like it was a handshake. I could get that way eventually, it wouldn't bother me to be that physical, but I'd rather not. One girl I had met before I auditioned said she doesn't make any money but I saw her lay down over ten dollars on drinks in a two minute period so that says a lot.

My pride is hurt but I'll go back.

Thanks for the support guys c:

Sounds like you're in over your head. Go down there and talk to your manager. Be specific and get all the house rules and policies. Fact is, he should have taught you that BEFORE you hit the floor, but now it's your responsibility to get educated. House is more important than handing out tips to employees.

Oh- and never, ever, EVER let a customer "teach" you about a club. I don't care how "regular" he is... He's still a fucking customer and has an agenda.

oh no no, don't worry I wasn't being serious! I knew that all the guys I spoke to were pulling bullshit on me. I'm not about to become a hooker for a $10 lapdance (welcome to Phoenix, it's that fucking low, sometimes less in other clubs). Thank you for the concern though, I really appreciate it c:

A lot of the same excuses girls use not to tip club employees are the same excuses customers use not to tip dancers, if that gives any helpful perspective on this topic. Some employees only make about the same wages as servers, like $2.50/hr or whatever, so they really rely on your tips to put food on the table. Plus, tipping and over-tipping helps build social capital in the club that will become very useful down the line.

That being said, you should find out exactly what that 10% is for. Most DJ fees are about $10 or 10%... had you not yet paid the DJ when you were trying to leave, and the bouncer was trying to collect for the DJ? All fees your describing sound about average actually. They're not fair, certainly, but they do seem pretty average- house fee, a cut of dance sales, a set amount to each bouncer, door-guy and valet, $10 or 10% to the DJ, etc. Before you know it, about a third of your original earnings for the night are gone.

As for what you should do if you're broke, I agree with the other girls who suggested coming in very early for free or cheap house fee (and usually if it's early there's fewer bouncers to tip out). Do you have a friend or family member you can borrow some cash from? I always go into work every shift with about $100 in my wallet so no matter what, I can always pay house fee, tip everyone out, order food, etc. If you do well, pay your friend/family back and put some of the extra cash in your wallet and keep it there for next shift's house-fees/tip-outs. If you're still struggling to make money, are there any other good clubs in your area with cheaper fees?

(on a side note, I hate the idea of tipping a manager. In what other industry in the fuckin world should one be tipping their boss?? They get salary!).

There's only one club I know of that charges over $10 for a lap dance. I would try Scottsdale but I can't afford the license. I'm going to Bourbon St. to see if they're any better as far as girls' behavior. As much as it pains me (because I'm afraid I'll be stuck there all day) I'll go back in the morning.

Luna: I didn't bother asking what the 10% is for but I will when I go back (or call one of the managers). I had no money and I was in a bad mood so it didn't occur to me to ask. I just wanted to get out of there.

I've been really tight with my money for the past year and it had filled me with such stress I wanted to cut loose a bit and now I have close enough to nothing I'm stressed again. -Sigh-
I have some good friends who I know would help me out, I just don't want to go that route unless I'm completely desperate.

Again thanks for the advice/support from everyone. I really appreciate it c:

I went to Phoenix for six weeks during winter break to visit my fam and didn't even bother dancing. I couldn't handle how it is out there right now. I'm sorry you're there. My friend who's still in Phoenix says it's just awful.

I'm transitioning to cam work for a more stable income. I was so surprised to see 3-4-1 dances at full nude clubs. -Sigh-

Once you make a little you should consider Vegas on a weekend. You are really close and the money is way better here

^^ I agree, mini strip-trips can be great money-wise, you have nothing to do but work. Go there and work a double, get a really cheap hotel room for one night, get up the next day and work another double, then head home. That could really help you get on your feet.

I feel ya -I'm stuck between a rock & a hard spot myself right now as well.

But, Miss_McKenna is right. Mini strip trips are very helpful -I spent the last 2 1/2 weeks in Michigan dancing & it helped relax me & get me alittle more caught up.

    Good Luck!

Camming has proven to be pretty lucrative for me so once I get my pay check I'll head back to the club. A better club haha. I might try Christie's but I have no idea what goes down in a gown club. Haha, it seems like stripping is the only profession where job hunting costs money.
