Default Is second guessing my semi-new Job

I know it has been a while but I have been super busy. If you didn't know, I recently retired from camming and applied to some local stripclubs. I got offered a cocktail server position and took it! Please don't take this post as me bitching and complaining, these are merely my observations and I am grateful for the experience, but I am second guessing it for a few reasons and I need advice.

The money has BEEN GREAT to my surprise, and can only get better from here as I gain experience, but for me money is not everything.

-I find the working environment to be very unprofessional and discombobulated. This stripclub needs TABITHAS TAKEOVER and Bar Rescue.
-To my surprise my very first night, the dj called for all of the COCKTAIL SERVERS to get on stage. I am SHOCKED...I did not get into this cocktail serving gig to get back into dancing, I got into it to gain experience in hospitality. I was never told during the interview, during the second interview, at any time beforehand that I would have to go dance on stage as a cocktail server. I am not happy with this, I love pole dancing don't get me wrong, but if I wanted to get on stage for money, Id be a stripper I do one routine a night, thats it...other times I continue to keep busy and do not have to go up, but if I refuse to go up, there will be problems.
-I notice there are some very unsanitary conditions, seriously. There are no handwashing sinks at the bar, they are used as dump sinks. Everyone in the place is responsible for bussing tables, picking up ashtrays, etc. Ash trays have saliva from ciggy butts, chewed gum in them 98% of time and 98% of the time we cannot wash our hands, then we go back to drink orders. It is disgusting. We "must ask for a managers approval" before we leave the floor, so if a manager is not available, guess who does not get to wash their hands? Yes it really is that discombobulated. I could go on believe me.....

This is what has been really bothering me: On my first night I was also told that I was to COLLECT BUSINESS CARDS FROM THE CUSTOMERS AND CONTACT THEM BY PHONE OR EMAIL TO "MAINTAIN CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS AND PROMOTE BUSINESS" I was not provided a company email address, and this is to be done on my time, not company time. I was told if I didn't do this I would be written UP and there are only so many write-ups one can receive until they get fired. I was flabbergasted when I heard this and it has been so unsettling to me I know all of you can see my point of view on this. I am not there to promote the club, I am there to serve cocktails. It shocks me a club would even consider having their servers contact these customers....In most places the dancers themselves are not allowed to contact the customers. I was not told during the hiring process that I would have to contact any customer outside of the club. I personally think it is one of the worst things they could do for business in more ways then one. I am completely uncomfortable with this, especially since I was not told what I was signing up for when I became employed.

I went thru my complete contract and it does not state that it is part of our job requirement to contact our customers or go on stage. I am sure you guys see the big picture like I do. Discombobulated beyond recognition.

I don't want to bring this up to management, it is inevitable, I will get fired. This is a right to work state, they can fire me for any reason, especially stirring a pot like this, but I think what this company is doing is wrong. I never knew what I was signing up for and it is not in contracts.

I am not ready to quit just yet but I have been looking. I am concerned that all of the other stripclubs will be just the same. I am concerned that they will all have an unprofessional and discombobulated working environment. I am concerned there will be fucked up rules like this, etc. I am also having a little trouble being around drunks. I am a recovering alcoholic so of course that gets a little stressful. IMHO the money is not worth the stress. I am trying to live as stress free as possible.

To a 21 year old who likes to drink on the job, (no offense to you younger ladies) this could very well be a dream job with alot of earning potential, but I am not 100% certain that it is for me. I want to get at least 6 months experience under my belt, then I can move on to a casino that offers a more professional working environment. At a casino or If I get hired at another club I am gonna try it out I am 100% certain I will never have to contact customers, or go on stage as a cocktail server at any other club in this town. I am going to keep my options open but I am not a QUITTER.

    What would YOU DO? LOL

girl the only thing i can say is go and talk to the district mgr (if its a chain club) if not, you need to talk to the OWNER! obviously this guy running the place doesnt give two shits, and i can only IMAGINE whats on the pole (ewwww.) all I can say is that on the bright side, if they fire you, you can just go to the local pd and have the place shut down. obviously if theyre putting waitresses on stage they need $. so if you threaten to shut them down (even if its an empty threat) theyll probably play ball. if they fire you, go to another club and have that 1 shut down. but from my exp, the owner is usually oblivious to whats going on under mgmt... as long as theyre making $$ they dont care. thats not right. do whats right, sugar... cause none of them other girls shoiuld have to work in those conditrions either! thats GROSS!

This sounds like a FLSA violation. Whether the management would be grateful to you for pointing out it could cause trouble for the company is another question. If you do point this out, and management is not receptive, you could proceed to report them.

TY babies I just had to come here and be among people who would understand. You hit it right on the head, OWNER does not give a rats ass...I could say more but it is not worth my time.

I am 100% certain my words will fall on deaf ears and am certain I will just be fired, there is a very high turnover. If I do get fired (or quit) for any reason whatsoever I will definately do what is right and I WILL VOICE MY CONCERNS TO the proper entities above. I really need to PM some of you because there are some things that I won't say in public but lets just say I don't think this club will be around much longer for many reasons.

Thanks for advice ladies. I will do what is right, but I don't want to be fired for it. I will look for another job, I already have other offers from other reputable SC's here but I am afraid the working environment will not change much, but some of the reputable clubs have been here for years so they are doing something right We will see what happens...the saga continues

And they should be if I do point it out, bt we all know they won't. I will be fired and could have the potential to put them out of business...there is not a lack of cocktail servers who quit due to this and we could all make complaints....lesigh. Like I said, probably the worst possible thing they could do for their business in more ways then one.

    CS,
I hate to say this, but from what I've seen, in this business, complaining or letting mgmt know that they are doing things wrong or even illegally is a bad idea. I know that's not right but that is what I've seen.
Most sc's don't have sinks for the waitresses or seperate bussers. it's nothing like normal waitressing. I know there's an ick factor.
Be observant about which of the rules are "rules" in name only. Do all the waitresses really ask before using the bathroom, or can you go quickly?
Do other waitresses really call or email custies, or is that just something you're told to do?
At my club there's a whole slew of stuff we're supposed to do, I actually do about 10% of it, pretend to do another 40% just to be polite, and flagrantly disregard another 50%. Most workplaces are like this not just sc's. Wait a little while and get a handle on how serious they are about all these rules. Or maybe I'm way off base here.
Congrats on your sobriety and best wishes. i hope you continue to make good $$$ and if you are looking for a casino cocktail job I hope you get one I hear they rock.

Missy..I agree qith you 100% I know if I brought it up to management they will simply fire me. I am not a failure nor a quitter, so I am just doing what I need to do in the meantime. I do not mind the job itself, but the place. It seems to be working against me and the money I make, due to the discombobulation, etc. I feel the emails and stage performances are also hindering my ability to make money as I am there to serve cocktails, not promote and or dance. Therefore, if I am distracted with certain things like this I am not getting cocktails OUT. I keep my stage performances to a minimum, etc. As for the emails: it is a requirement, people do it, if they do not, they are written up. They have a way of tracking this. I have seen several of my co workers be written up for not sending emails to customers.

For me it is not worth it to fight someone elses battle TBH. I will do what is right, however, I am not an attourney, health inspector, etc. These are issues the club has to deal with, not its employees. I am positive that there is a SC out there that runs smoother and that there is equal or more money to be made with less stress. I will start looking for this club. May take me a min to find it but deep down I know this place is not the right fit for me. No other SC out here makes their servers do such things. It must look terrible in a customers eyes when they have to wait 10 mins for a drink because their server is on stage, for both the club and the server lol. If I was 100% focused on serving my tables, it would be much easier. For now it only effects my tips and it most certainly effects the business.

    Cyber,
I've never been at a club that does either of those things, so I don't think it's typical. Actually forcing waitresses to email customers seems like a liability, but whatever.
Best wishes in finding the best club for you Hang in there baby

Make a disposable internet hotmail account. Write up two dozen friendly but not sexually charged one paragraph emails. Use a separate email program like Thunderbird. Select All customers and send them all the same email message. Do this once a day. Maybe an hour to set up and one minute to do daily. Eventually you will find the ones that tip the most and make emails a little personalized for them. The will like the "its my favorite place and xxxx knows me" feeling and tip you well. If they ask you about replies just tell them their is 500 or more a day and you can't keep up.

The stage bit, I have no advice.

Handwashing, complain to the Health department claiming your a customer.

Alcohol. Working in a bar helped me out. Alcohol and the smell of mixed drinks became disgusting to me.
