Default Someone stole my social security number

Heads up girls!! I am sure you cannot do anything about it now. But someone stole my social security number and the IRS told me they do not know who did it?? But , I want you to remember and understand about what sleazy websites you are giving your social security number out to. Just think how they can file a fraudulent tax return or apply for credit on your behalf in your name without your knowledge.. I recall i have given my SS# out to many websites. I am not sure if this has anything to do with camming or what. But I want to make you girls aware that I am not a victim of identity theft and I have to go through a bunch of crap to fix it instead of working...

^^^ a growing problem, unfortunately. And when it happens from outside the USA, there's not a whole lot that can be done quickly to stop it.

To minimize the risk to some degree, there are credit / identity protection services such as LifeLock out there that can at least provide an 'early warning'.

Actually, I'm surprised that there haven't been reports of unscrupulous camgirls signing up at foreign based webcam hosts and earning money using 'stolen' names and SS#'s. If timed right, the unscrupulous camgirl could earn tens of thousands of dollars before the identity theft was discovered ... when the girl whose identity was stolen eentually receives the 1099 for the income the unscrupulous camgirl earned while using her name !!!

You can put a freeze on your credit so that any new use of your credit information has to be personally approved by you. If you can afford it I'd also go with Melonie's idea and get some sort of third party protection. Three times is three too many. Sorry this happened dear :c

Yea the IRS gave me all the phone numbers.. I have done that twice before.. it was kinda funny when i was on the phone with the FTC and they asked if i ever called before and I said yes i did back in 2004 or so!!..lol .. I don't really care that much.. my credit is ruined due to recession.. but this is the first time since i was 14 my taxes are not on time and of course it is my fault.. even though it isnt.. that is how life is.. Everyone expects you to be prepared for what you don't know.. as if you must be psychic.

This is a good reminder to all of us that we should be using an EIN to sign up!

EIN is Employer identification number that you can use as an alternative to giving out your SSN for tax purposes, to simplify. Wikipedia has a good overview and you can sign up for one in ~5 minutes, 15 tops
