    Default Calorie Question

I am 31. I need to drop some weight in the next 6 weeks. I am trying to do it in a somewhat healthy manner but it's not working. For the past week I have ate 1000 calories everyday. I eat cottage cheese, rice, avocados, and sugar free popsicles- and one nonfat carmel latte everyday.

I also have been walking 3-4 miles a day.

I HAVE NOT LOST ONE LB IN A WEEK.

What do you think? I was hard on my body in my teens/twenties---do you think I have really fucked up my metabolism or what. If I would have done this when I was 17, I would have lost 7 lbs by now.

It's just harder as you get older because your metabolism slows and it's harder to lose weight as easily. If youre really determined to drop some weight that fast then your going to have to make sure you are burning more calories than your consuming every day. Walking is good but that is only what's recommended for people who want to MAINTAIN their weight, not lose any. You'll have to up your cardio, go to the gym if you can and use The elliptical and stair master (those are my favorites anyway ha). Or just start running. I'm just not a running outdoors type of person, I like the gym or hiking up a mountain by my house.

So yeah if you want to lose any weight I suggest doing high intensity cardio 4 times a week and try to cut out bread and pasta and eat mostly veggies, fish, some fruit, and brown rice is always good. You might want to cut back on the Carmel lattes also.

If you aren't seeing any loss in your weight with the routine you have now then that means you need to change it. And now your metabolism is slower that means its gonna take that extra effort but it can be done! Good luck!

My dad is 60 and he lost 100lbs walking 2 hours a day in 6 months, not changing his diet at all... Just saying... stick in there. I really think you need to put a solid effort of at least 6 weeks before you see real results. Usually people lose 2lbs/week training and working hard. It could just water retention. Stick with it and you will see a result.

Maybe you should eat a little more. 1200 calories 4-5 small meals a day. No refined carbs. Can you throw some calisthenics in there?

I'm no fitness expert, but I think your calories could be better spent elsewhere.

The latte--just because something's non-fat doesn't make it healthy or a better choice. It often means more sugar :/

Popsicles--why? Just to snack on? Couldn't you find something that has some nutritional value to it that is still fun to snack on?

Rice--if it's white rice, that's probably not in your best interest. Brown rice would be better, though I still think you could find something that is more nutritious.

Also, my fitness-savvy friend told me that walking is a good long-term lifestyle choice, but not the best for quickly slimming down. I agree with others who say you should up the cardio if you want to see faster results.

You could be on the bloaty part of your cycle. Me weight loss plateaus for 2 weeks every month and then goes up right before my period, regardless of my activity or diet. Keep it up and give it a couple weeks.

Dude your diet sucks. Drop the rice (?), popsicles and lattes and use those calories for foods with proper macronutrients for your body. Also its quite possible that 1000 calories/day is too little for you, you're bloated/retaining water or you're eating way more calories than you think you are. I'd also ramp up your cardio to be higher intensity and maybe add some resistance training for good measure.

It sounds stupid, but a good place to start might be bb.com transformation sample diets: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbin...Transformation

"Somewhat healthy" isn't going to do it. I'm losing weight for the summer. I do 30mins of cardio a day. That's it. I've been at it nearly 2 weeks and have lost 5lbs. Why? Because my diet is GREAT. Ditch the sugar and carbs, and eat more produce. Instead of sugary snacks, eat fruit. Contrary to popular belief, fat isn't what makes you gain the quickest- it's SUGAR. So that non-fat latte, which I'm sure still has syrups and whipped cream on it etc is NOT doing you any favours.

I cut out gluten and wheat out of my diet plus I do an hr of cardio 5x a week. My guilty pleasure is my vanilla lattes.

Ditch the carbs and the excess sugar. If you want to drop weight fast then just get rid of them as completely as you can. Eat fruit, vegetables and lean meat. Even with fruit and vegetables, avoid potato, butternut squash, peas lentils and beans. With the fruit, avoid grapes, melon, bananas and pineapple. They have a high sugar content.

Definitely get rid of the latte. Like everyone else has said 'low fat' food is just replacing one sin with another...

It so true... and whenever I tell people not to eat sugar they are like "oh but I don't eat any sugar"... uhhhh read labels. Almost everything has sugar in it. Never ever eat anything that has a sugar content more than 6%, but if you wanna be really serious 0-1% sugar.

You can have a cheat day (and should, according to some body building sites with anecdotal posts saying their bodies were more willing to give up the pounds if allowed a cheat day than if they were super strenuous on their diet 24/7) but yeah, your daily diet needs to change.

I know how hard it is to exercise. I'm hitting the gym hard (for me) now, but when I didn't, 3-4 miles walking would have sounded like a decent exercise. But it's not. Grab some weights (or some water jugs-- one gallon of water = 8 pounds) or do sprints and then walk, sprints, then walk to get your heart up to the fat burning area of BPM.

I agree with whoever said somewhat healthy is not going to cut it. 31 is young so it's not your age that's stopping you from losing weight. It's your diet and exercise or lack of exercise that's holding you back.

Drop the latte. If you really want to lose weight, the only thing you should drink is water. Find a brand you like (seriously, some brands taste different than others like Dasani vs Nestle) or boil your own water and keep plenty on hand. If you just don't like the taste of water, try adding some drops of lemon into it. It gives it a little flavor and is a nice change from the same old water flavor 24/7. Popsicles? No ma'am. Walking? Ehh, walking doesn't burn that many calories. Power walking (pumping your arms, walking fast, breathing heavy) on the other hand does. If at the end of your 3 or 4 mile walk you don't have sweat dripping down your back, you weren't power walking. I would suggest exercising.. like real exercising. If you're healthy and able bodied, there's really no good reason you have to not work out. Your body is fundamentally the most important thing in your life, it's what keeps you going literally. I would suggest going to Walmart and buying a yoga mat and this awesome DVD http://www.walmart.com/ip/7681072. That DVD includes a pilates band and the girl in there looks all sweet and nice but she is an evil monster and she'll have you cursing her name after like 20 minutes. I've lost 20 pounds this month thanks to that DVD, this DVD http://www.walmart.com/ip/8044432, a healthy diet, and tons of squats/sits ups. My ass also looks uhhhmazing now from the squats btw. I can't believe how unhealthy I used to be.

Sidenote: I started really working out a month or so ago. I began by doing squats and lifting 10 pound weights in a variety of ways. Naturally, I have large arms and with the weights my arms started to look even bigger. I was way stronger but I didn't like the way I looked. So, I suggested that pilates DVD with the band because it will tone you up without bulking you up like weights will. Sure I could have used smaller weights but then I wouldn't have felt anything and I like (no, loveee) feeling the "burn".

Thank you soooo much everyone for all your insight.

Everyone is right, I need to cut this diet out completely and stick to high protein/veggies. I was trying to crash diet and it didn't even work. I will tell you---the one thing that is hard is my caramel latte. I'm addicted to it.

I did a Jillian Michaels workout this weekend and I am still sore. I am sooooo out of shape. My goal now if to get healthy and slim. Thank you!
