OMG-that is disgusting! That is the exact brand/style I use too (Kotex)...ugh, definitely time to check into using the sponges/cups...

Cant believe mold formed on the tampon though, even though I understand of the TSS, I hope companies stop bleaching them!

Kisca, i used the cup and found it uncomfortable to insert/remove. Once I started using the sea sponges I was THRILLED with how soft they feel and NO leaks. I highly recommend at least trying them once, I wish I had known about them when I was a kid because tampons were painful for me to use.
Sponges are also great for stripping, use them when you don't have your period if you are worried about discharge.
They expand as they dry out, like a natural tampon and their 'sponge' properties, er soak things up. I dampen one and 'pop it up'. If I remember I sew a piece of cotton into the centre so they're easier to remove.
If I'm having sex with one, I won't sew in the cotton and it's usually quite difficult to remove, it gets pushed quite far up there. Nothing that can't be sorted with a bit of patience. They feel pretty natural as they are but my friend recommended a bit of lube, apparently that helps hide it even more. I've never 'leaked' and I've never had a man notice anything, even if I've mentioned it afterwards.
I prefer my mooncups because I just find it's less hassle, but sea sponges are great if I have a dirty weekend planned and get caught out by my period.
