I don't understand why you or anyone care.. no disrespect sarah.. but why are you guys caring?? let's take webcams for instance , look at the bottom of the page they are owned by 5 different companies... if anything they will ALWAYS be in business if not only to take a loss. I mean?? So?? you want all customers to yourself or what?? every girl is different.. you are not special nor am i.. how long have you been doing cam.. sheessh.. sorry but i am offended by all this .. if you don't cut the damn mustard showing off your damn twat your out!! why?? .. again don't be mad.. but i am sick of this baloney!! it's not that big of a deal to have a 1000 girls online or so.. really!.. I know i can not come here or post.. but really?? so we should only have 10 girls online because you are the fucking best and fuck the rest??? i'ts completely illogical.
I think you might be taking too much offense to what Sarah meant. I think she means that cam sites need to really pay more attention to who they hire on. Not to put up a complete wall or anything, but if you have 100+ models who literally don't do anything, then that just can't be good for business. I don't think Sarah was talking about lower earners or saying to keep only higher earners. But there is like 10+ pages of women in countries who do not actually cam. They turn on SM and other sites at the same time and do not do anything. They do not interact with the people on SM and the do not do shows. If they're on the site and not working then why should SM keep them?
That's my husband's opinion as to why SM is as popular as it is, and he also says that they would not be doing themselves a service by limiting the kind of girls available to the guys, even if a few are losing the site money. The variety helps draw in customers who then might branch out and spend on other girls.
That's not to say that a standard should not be applied. I just think that, if they take it too far, they will be doing themselves a disservice.

ok that's what i was trying to say.. but i am a nasty bitch who don't give a fuck...lol and you guys are all hot and bothered making assumptions of ludicrousy.. if thats even a damn word.. if you want zeeeeeeeeee perfect cam site with your perfect girls in a perfect world create your own.. yep i am a bitch so don't debate i don't care.. this is stupidity and nothing but.
Yep, I TOTALLY agree with this. The sleeping shows? Really? Have you seen how many people are doing this now? There's just not that much demand for voyeur shows. So you have 10 to 15 girls SLEEPING for 8 hrs each? And they MAYBE make $10 each in that whole time? That's a total waste of resources. I can understand trying it once. But if you don't make anything from it, don't do it again. Come on.
I even saw a girl who had a bunch of naked pics on her screensaver then she set a three hour gold show and let it go. It kept going back to free chat (that's how I saw it). But how much do you think she made on that show after the guys saw, in free chat, what she was up to? And how many complaints you think SM got from that one?
Or the person (no names obviously) who has TWO accounts running at one time. She does a gold show countdown on one page and a voyeur show of her countdown on another page. And the voyeur show is a few crappy cameras and half the time there's not anyone in the house in the first place. And it ALSO keeps going back to free chat because half the time there's no one home when the timer runs out.
I don't think anyone is talking about being totally elitist about this. But seriously, there ARE a lot of girls who are nothing but a HUGE waste of space and a drain on resources. Girls sleeping in free chat and NEVER responding to customers. Girls with their asses facing the cam who NEVER respond to customers. Girls who ONLY milk the clock and never actually do anything the customer wants.
Girls who sells videos along with their gold show, at a rate which I would be embarrassed to have people watching me, let alone sending out videos of myself to them. I have no issue with people who sell videos. I'm just saying, there are people who are devaluing the site so much that they have to sell a 15 min gold show PLUS 5 videos of themselves for $7.
I, personally, can't believe that SM hasn't ALREADY gotten rid of some of these girls.

Its not about only "the best" being allowed to cam - the reason behind this is that the THEORY is that:
- When a girl is not earning a certain amount per hour, she is costing the site money, because of bandwith costs.
- Because some girls are losing the site money, SM compensates for that by taking a high percentage of earnings from ALL girls (65%). This is the same way that they compensate for swallowing chargeback costs.
- If there were NO girls costing the site money, the site would not have to compensate for this.
- Therefore, SM would take a lower cut from everyone.
THIS is why some girls really care about this. They want that change, because they believe that it would get them a higher percentage of their earnings. Which I can understand, actually.
I personally don't want the "house fee" system implemented, although I wouldn't mind it if, say, you had to keep an average of 10% in paid chat (or equivalent earnings per hour) over a quarter. I think that 25% is too high to be realistic - if % in paid has a big impact on placement, that would wipe out most of the site!!!!! LOL
However, THAT is why girls are so passionate about it. They want the industry to be the best it can be, and want it to keep growing, and want to get the best deal that they can from the sites they work. We are just debating over what is the best way of doing that!!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

We were not "hot and bothered" making "assumptions of ludicrousy". I can't even attempt to rationalize with a person who can't even form a complete logical sentence, but I'll give it a shot.
I think if you go back and you read the things that Melonie has said, you can see that her information is not just assumptions based on something crazy. I was discussing and elaborating on the things she had said about this particular topic. Any educated person who knows how a successful business is run would be able to take a look at a website such as Streamate and know that a huge chunk of "performers" are actually costing the site money. I have a pretty significant amount of knowledge, as does Melonie, on how much it costs to run a streaming server. To say that I am making an assumption on anything is actually nothing but an assumption on your part.

For better or worse, with the inescapable transition to quasi-HD 720p and true-HD 1080p, it actually goes beyond the above ...
A webcam host's streaming video servers and internet backbone connection could support say 1000 girls' video streams at 480p. Without adding more powerful servers and additional internet backbone bandwidth, that webcam host's existing setup can only support ( 480 / 720 * 2 ) * 1000 = 444 girl's video streams at 720p without problems. If 1000 camgirls continue to work through that site, there are three options in principle.
The first is that the webcam host makes no investment to improve the existing setup, the webcam host makes no changes in the existing payout structure, the webcam host takes no action to 'cut' camgirls, the overloaded video servers and internet backbone connection start to 'bog down', video streams being sent to customers start to 'freeze' or 'drop', camgirls get frustrated at lost potential earnings, customers get frustrated because they're not receiving the quality video stream they are paying for etc. Arguably, this is where some webcam hosts find themselves today.
The second option is for the webcam host to go out and borrow millions of dollars in order to finance improvements in video server and internet backbone connection capacity in order to accomodate 720p's higher bandwidth requirements. This would stop the 'freezing' and 'dropping', would stop the camgirl frustration and customer dissatisfaction. But it would also require that the webcam host take an even higher percentage of camgirl's 'earnings' in order to cover the webcam hosts's new 'loan payments' on the upgraded servers plus higher monthly bandwidth bills. This has not happened because A. the webcam host company's credit rating, and the fact that they are in the adult business sector, makes obtaining large business loans at affordable interest rates impossible, plus B. lowering the payout percentage from 35% down to 25% would undoubtedly drive away top performing camgirls ( who actually provide the majority of webcam host revenue ).
The third option is for the webcam host to 'cut' 556 of their current 1000 camgirls, resulting in 444 camgirls being able to provide problem free video streams to customers using the webcam host's existing streaming servers and existing internet backbone bandwidth capacity.
Obviously I have vastly oversimplified this example, since not every camgirl operates at the same video resolution, since video stream problems aren't exclusively caused by webcam host server and/or internet backbone bandwidth capacity etc. But the basic point still remains. Higher resolution video standards require more streaming server capacity and more bandwidth capacity per video stream, period !!! Webcam customers are increasingly expecting higher resolution video, resulting in some amount of lost sales if the webcam host / camgirls are unable to provide it. Given existing streaming server and internet backbone bandwidth capacity, the point has already been reached where webcam hosts / camgirls cannot provide it ( at least not without 'freezes', 'dropouts' and other technical problems ).
If the 'status quo' is not changed, present problems will continue to worsen to the point of driving webcam customers away. So this isn't a question of doing something versus doing nothing. It's a question of WHAT to do.
Again reflecting back to the strip club business model, the evolution to hi-res video that is currently occurring in the webcam industry is, in many ways, similar to the evolution to lap dances that occurred years ago in the strip club industry. Think about that for a bit !
You know, I'm not real thrilled about this whole thing, but I also know that I'm not losing money for the company and am, in fact, making money for them. Therefore, I do not really feel threatened.
My % for this week was 29%, I think that the reason why they added this feature is Placement, I think the higher your % the better placement you will have.
There is no reason to place a model (that can't convert) on the first row of page 1.
Usually when I interact and tease on sm I get more pvt, and my placement is decent, sometimes when I am tired( lazy lol) I get less pvt and less $$ and my placement drop a lot.
I think that all websites do something similar ( they just don't admit it) even MFC gives a better placement to girl with high camscore (camscore go up when u get $$$)
But if it was only for placement, why would they show it on our profiles ? The second reason might be to encourage us to make more

% now feels more like MFC camscore in the sense that it's basically our success barometer. I'm not complaining about it as it does feel useful and is far more actually informative than the MFC camscore.
But running with what naughtycamgirl has just said about placement, I do wish that it was possible for us to see our placement on SM even if we have geoblock on our local area. With family who wouldn't take kindly to what I do, I have no choice but to ensure that I have geoblock enabled for my area. However I've never been able to see myself or even search myself on SM to check my placement. It would be truly helpful if I could check that, or if it was specified somewhere whilst I'm signed in.
Maybe you could make this suggestion? I think the new "saving notes" thing came as a result of models making suggestions. Maybe they'll listen if enough people suggest it. It's probably not all that difficult to just list which number girl you are in the order of things at that moment.
Why don't you try this to hide your IP and see your placement ?
I digit ctrl+F then I get a search bar on my browser, I write my sm nickname and press next to find myself easily if I am not on the first page.
Don't forget to use another browser than the one you are using to stream ( if u r streaming on Firefox, check sm on internet explorer or chrome)

^ I.. can't find you. :S
Thing is, even if I check for your username in the search bar, I still can't see you. I'm sure this is some kind of technical problem, or maybe you are in private? (I think a model temporarily disappears off the page if she is in private?) Your link works, and I can see you, but I can't check your placement from there. I'll keep checkin for you hun. What category are you in?

I can't find you either unless I go directly to your profile.
Do you have any geoblocking enabled? That will make it where you do not show up in search results and you won't show to anyone that is not a logged in member. Then of course they would have to be a logged in member who is not from your geo restricted area.

I think there is an assumption here by some that marginal camgirls are the niche girls. I have not seen that stated anywhere in this debate so I fail to see how cutting cam girls who are marginal would effect type and variety of models on site. If we are basing this on time spent in prvt or dollars earned there is no reason to assume that certain type makes more than another. I mean honestly if you aren't making as much as the "babe" maybe it's not the look, maybe it's your hustle, so says the 39 year old, black, bbw. I am by no means marginal according to my earnings or percent of time spent in private so I am just not getting how cutting girls would reduce variety again this is a conclusion that can only be drawn from making an assumption about who earns and who doesn't.
Niche girls should stay. As long as they earn and interact. There is page after page of girls doing nothing but having their pussy up close in cam. Why are they on SM? In my opinion, they are not really camgirls or cam models or whatever. They are digital hookers. Maybe they earn, who knows.
Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, girls are competitive. You want to earn more, have more guys in your room, have higher placement. If you are good, you will get your money regardless if there are 100 or 1000 girls on. Don't think that because SM cut all the riff raff off the site that they are going to give you a higher percentage. Business logic dictates that corporations tend to keep their profits, especially when they are making more.
The biggest problem I see on SM is girls giving it all away in free chat. Earlier today, I saw the #1 placed girl on the HOME page prepping for a gold show. She was sucking a squirting dildo and making it spray yogurt all over her face. Then she rode it, slightly off cam. She had as many as 147 people in her room. 147. Dudes were typing shit like "this is the best free show I have ever seen, etc." Halfway through her countdown, with well over 100 guys in her room, she had barely half of her goal. Which was only $100.
It is what it is.

You cannot check your placement if you have geo-block on unless you have a member's account. Blocking your IP won't do anything. When you have geo-block on it removes you from all searches and advertisement. Which means the only people who can see you are people who are already members; even then I don't think they can search for you. It does affect your placement because they can't advertise you, people without memberships can't see you, and no one can search for you. Geo-block is a waste to have in my opinion, just because someone can't search you doesn't mean they still can't find you through a direct link.
