Sorry I missed church. I was too busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian.

I always did both.
That's what my pediatrician told me to do too.
For breakfast, cereal with some fruit.
Lunch, Veggies
and for dinner I'd do fruits and veggies.
Neither of my boys have ever been a fan of baby food though, and went into table foods realllly quick.
Mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, whole banana's, avocados. Spagetti, etc, etc.
Whatever they like, they get lol![]()

I tried fruit first, and my baby girl hated it. So, we stuck to vege's (and starting trying meats) for the first few months (after 6 months of solid nothing but breast milk feedings). Kept offering different fruits, though she didn't take a liking til she was around 13 months old.

We were told to start with vegetables because most kids live sweet flavors and if you start with fruit then kids will refuse vegetables. My daughter is four now and LOVES fruit but also enjoys broccoli, green beans, and carrots, and she will eat other veggies but not devour them.

I was told to go from cereal, to vegetables, to fruit, then meat... Something about the way their digestive system and also their tastes develop, and also that if you start fruits before veges, they wont like the less sweet of veges. Thats what I did with kiddo. Also as a side note, to introduce a new food once every 3 days, so that its clear if they develop an allergy, intolerance, or flat out dont like something, you know right away what the culprit is.
Kiddo ate everything except fruit...I had such a hard time getting her to eat any, and cause I was intro'ing one at a time, I figured it out that she didnt like any fruit that had apple juice in it...which (at least at that time, dont know about now) was 90% of the fruits. So I would buy fresh fruits and mash them up for her, then she would love them. Shes 15 now, and though she will eat fresh apples, or have stuff with actual apple in it, she still hates apple juice and can tell if shes drinking something that is mixed with it. Besides that, and olives, kiddo eats everything and prefers veges and fish over everything else.
Sometimes I screw with her and buy juices that have apple mixed in it. And when she complains that it tastes funny, Im all..oh I guess you still dont like apple juice! And she gets all annoyedYeah, I find strange ways to amuse myself...

I started with fruits because I think they taste better so they were easier to get him to try. My son was premature so I started him later than a normal baby (he was two months premature), but at 8 months we started him on rice cereal and then around 10 months we put him on stage 1 gerber baby food. I picked the ones with rice cereal mixed in them, and then added some more in a bowl. Basically I would put rice cereal and water in a bowl, then add a few spoonfuls of baby food. The stage 1 baby foods that have rice cereal in them are called "apples and mango with rice cereal" for example. They are also A LOT less runny than the applesauce or squash baby foods, the rice cereal makes it more tacky so it is way less messy (i.e. it won't slide off those tiny baby spoons). They don't make veggies and rice cereal combinations. For introducing meats later you can try "apples and chicken" or "sweet potatoes and turkey".
You can read on the box what all of the stages of gerber foods are for (i.e. supported sitter, sitter, crawler, preschooler).
If you are willing to do for one year what other's won't, you can spend a lifetime doing what other's cant.
