Default VIP charges at NYC club?

Spent a few hours at a nyc strip club for my friend's bachelor party two months ago. There were 6 of us. After I got my statement I noticed there was a big discrepancy between what I was told the cost of 1/2 VIP would be and the amount I was actually charged. I got copies of my receipts. For VIP I was told $312 for half hour (doesn't include tip), but then I was charged another $125 for "room." I was under the assumption the $312 was the cost for the VIP room, so what's the additional $125 room charge? Do strip clubs charge a VIP service fee and a separate room fee per dance???

I wasn't aware you can do a VIP for half hour. Sounds like you paid for the room but at the same time you paid for "just" the room. The extra charge sounds like you wanted dances too which was maybe what that $125 was.

I don't know for sure so it may be best to ask the club what a half an hour VIP includes. If it's just the room then it's 6 guys alone together. Doesn't really sound that fun in an SC if you're actually there to see the girls. I'm thinking room+dancers equals $312+125.

Hope that makes sense , when in doubt ask the club.

$312 + $125 x 6 guys (not to mention an additional $60-100 tip per person)

I'm not usually the type to say "I told you so", but...

However, as expensive as it was, BOTM makes a great point in that you got out cheap, especially for Manhattan. You could have done a lot better if you had taken your action outside of the city.

$1872 + 750 + approx 600 in tips (then there were some random charges...maybe for booze)

Something like that.....each charge is on separate receipt..... (some receipts say Server: Funny (is this a girl's name or is this for funny money???) and all the $125 receipts say Server: Room)....and all charges went on my cc. I was unaware of all the $125 charges at the time and they don't look like they're signed by me....and many of the tips were added in by someone else after the fact. Maybe there were some cc fees on top of that....about $4,000 total but trust me no extras. I think I got taken for a ride, but par for the course. BTW mileage was very low and girls were subpar. Should have listened to Rick and gone to Queens....

All I can say is it's a good idea to bring nothing but cash to a strip club. That way you are in control of your money at all times (hopefully...).

What club is this? I work in NYC... I can offer you some insight...
There is a fee for the dancer and a fee for the room. Two separate costs.

I'm guessing the dancer got the $300
    The room was $125
There was probably a percentage charge for using a credit card (10-20%)

    It's stupid... but pretty standard.

If we are talking about 6 guys in a room with 6 girls... well then the price would be far higher.

Another fun thing to note... waitresses & servers often get an AUTOMATIC 20% tip on any bottles ordered in a VIP room. It's kinda beyond ridiculous...

I wanna empathize. But the fact that you were seeking mileage and extras puts me off.

Nonetheless, I am super-duper against clubs overcharging customers.

There is a silver lining.... It could have been worse.....

Yeah, you should've. It's always the cheap asses looking for a "bang for their buck". Def stay out of the city. You got a cheap room for Manhattan's standards btw. No one took you for a "ride". You just misunderstood what was told to you.

LOL. I only told him that if he had to call ahead for prices, then he probably couldn't afford Manhattan clubs and that he should consider Queens or other locales instead. Mileage or bang for the buck never came up.

But though he did get a decent deal for Manhattan, you have to admit that a $4k tab for 6 guys to hang out together in a VIP room with 6 girls for 1/2 hour is quite a nut by almost anyone's standards, especially if one guy is footing the tab.

That wasn't at you. I know what you meant.

It just irks me that ppl KNOWING how damn expensive the city of Manhattan is(not just strip clubs, everything) whine like a wallet victim. Strip clubs aren't gonna be any cheaper than a regular bar/club.

Sorry I gave you girls the wrong impression...I was NOT looking for extras, nor were any of my buddies....just one last wild night for the groom before his wedding. I wouldn't even go as far as grabbing any part of the dancers body...i'm just a sit there and relax kinda guy with hands by my side. I have the utmost respect for the dancers who do their job and don't approve of giving extras. I only made reference to mileage and extras so you would we didn't get charged for that. I'm only on here because I'm suspicious of these unforeseen charges, but all in all I guess I was lucky. By the way, I am totally happy to pay for whatever services we received, I just am skeptical at the signatures that aren't my own (and I was the sober one in the group -- so I know none of my friends signed either). I think some guys may have thrown around some cash, but that I didn't include into my charges. I hesitate to mention the name of the club but since I think I mentioned it on an another thread you can figure it out anyway....Cheetah's in Times Square.

edit: I only made reference to mileage and extras so you would KNOW we didn't get charged for that.

I think he spent $4,000 of his own money. Right? Or am I going blind?

It's hard to tell because he keeps getting slapped down for "being a cheapskate."

No, if my math is correct, the group as a whole (6 guys) spent a grand total of $3222.

So it's not a CR for $500 and change for NYC, but $4,000 for 30 mins. At least now it sounds a little more like NYC.

He's also a newbie, and I suspect he got "fluttered," where a flock of dancers suddenly appear, and they all line up for the CR when his card came out. These flocks can get pretty insane, depending on the CC. It's hard to manage that situation intelligently if you've never been in a high-end club before.

It also strikes me as an insane waste. Thirty minutes in a CR? That's not even a single bottle of champagne for two.

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but it struck me as cheap. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting the "x6". I assumed that meant they all split it in some fashion. But you know what they say about those that assume.

    I read it as 400(ish) per person * 6 guys. 2400 / 2600

If one girl. WOW even for nyc

    If multiple....cheap.

Still i dont think hes cheap...hes confused about a charge and signatures that dont smell right. Legit to ask...and hes been nice about it

^He mentioned that, in addition to the per head room fees, they racked up some other miscellaneous charges for the group while they were in VIP, which is how the total tab came to $4k.

Now this was all billed to his cc, so we don't know if the other guys had to reimburse him or not (I'm sure that the groom did not), but any way you slice it we are talking about almost $700 per person for a half hour.

Honestly, this is exactly why I don't club in Manhattan anymore, but rather take my business across the 59th St. bridge or to CT. Now I'm far from cheap and $700 isn't a fortune, but it is not spare change either. As a matter of principle, I just can't bring myself to pay $1k+ for an hour of a girl's time, especially when I have employees that don't make that much in a week. The high hustle factor present in Manhattan clubs and the gimmicky practices still employed when one puts down a cc for almost anything certainly don't help matters either.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm not sure if above posts are intended to be serious, or meant to inject a bit of black humor into the equation. For those who like to jump on customers for being cheapskates too quickly, I'm listing some results from an archived website zbone.com poll for edification. Zbone is a website for Los Angeles metro area stripclub enthusiasts. While not as pricey as Manhattan, Los Angeles is a "high cost" city/metro area.

Here are some sample results from the Feb. 2002 poll that asks how much customers spend on an average visit. (1177 respondents)

    Over $1000- 1.8% $500 or more - 5.3% $300 or more - 13.6%

Even after making a ~ 20 - 25% "tweak" for inflation , whether OP spent $500 or $4K, neither figure puts him in cheapskate territory. Even lower figure is head and shoulders above over ~ 90% of the stripclub customers out there.

^I hear what you are saying and agree with a fair amount of it in principle, but I also have to say that there is really no comparing the SC scene anywhere else to that of Manhattan. A big fish in almost any other pond can easily be a minnow (lol) swimming in a shark tank on any given night in almost any club in Manhattan. High rollers, guys with corporate cards, tourists with cash to burn, upper-middle class businessmen (either spending what they can afford or more than they should) and wannabe types are all a normal part of the scene.

And to help these guys spend all of that money, many of these clubs offer beautiful and gifted seductresses. You can bet that any SW dancer that makes a good living dancing in Manhattan does so because she is at the top of her class and has true skills. The money can be great for the right dancers, but the ones who cannot run with the big girls tend to bust out quickly, particularly when they need to make their money AFTER covering $200 in house fees and tipouts.

So, with all of that said, it is really no surprise that the NY-based dancers have responded in the way that they have. They have come to believe, and rightly so, that they are worth that kind of money and are accustomed to catering to guys who can pay the freight.

edit: I only made reference to mileage and extras so you would KNOW we didn't get charged for that.
    Let's clarify some things:

How many dancers were in the room?
    How long was the room?
Did you buy bottles/drinks in the room?
What were you expecting to pay?
    What were you charged?

Cheetah's is not exactly known for abiding by the law: http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sho...s-FEDERAL-RAID
So I wouldn't put it past them to pad the bill.

If you were expecting to pay $312 (which is impossible for 6 guys in a VIP, by the way) and ended up being charged $4,000.... that is a huge discrepancy. Can you dispute the charges with your bank/credit card company?

Also: I saw your post in the blue section of the site.... I tried to warn you, man. I really did. Tisk tisk.

High rollers, guys with corporate cards, tourists with cash to burn, upper-middle class businessmen (either spending what they can afford or more than they should) and wannabe types are all a normal part of the scene.
I think you might be thinking of Manhattan in the pre-2008 era. In my experience, the high-end of Vegas, London and Moscow (to name a few) could on any given day outstrip much of the high-end of Manhattan. It was not always this way -- the post-recession club scene in Manhattan bears almost no resemblance the pre-recession version. If club management had marched all the customers' wives through the club every hour, with flashlights and divorce attorneys in tow, they could not have chased out more customers than did the collapse of the financial markets (2008 ), the layoffs in the financial industry (2009 - 2011), the persistent downward trend in bonuses and the fifth and sixth rounds of layoffs in the banking industry (right now).

Today it's not unusual during the week to be the only seriously spending customer in a high-end Manhattan club (of course you are whisked away to the upstairs CRs and become invisible to the floor anyway, but the absence of door traffic is unmistakable).

I am omitting "wanna dance" clubs like Flashdancers, where you really need to be at least trilingual to have a decent conversation, which is fine as far as it goes, but those open lapdance areas in the back are like being trapped in a Somali prison.

Anyway, in the pre-recession era, the dancers would compete fiercely to get into the top-end NYC clubs, but once they were accepted, it was like playing in the majors -- they may not win the title, but they would bank regularly. Plus, the clubs were always busy -- sometimes just crowded and sometimes totally packed.

The situation now is dramatically different. Luck plays a huge role, good nights are mixed in with many bad ones and even the gifted seductresses can go home broke or in the hole.

As you note, the financial gimmicks and tricks in the high-end Manhattan clubs can be annoying, but they are not designed to trap you or me, as you know, they are designed to trap customers like the OP and drain his wallet through sleight of hand while trying to minimize the chance that he'll reverse charges on his card, and then challenge it if he does. So that process is what we are seeing unfold in this thread.

I think the dancers' irritation in the thread is a natural response to the crazy unevenness and role of pure luck in a market where you have to pay up front in a big way to even go into work. Honestly, I would probably be even more unforgiving of even the appearance of being cheap by a newbie customer if I had to buy my way into what turn out to be work dead zone on many nights.

Well with the "no extras, low mileage, subpar girls" in your half hour VIP comment you had to throw in your previous post....... hence why I got a negative impression from you.

As for the additional charges, clubs charge an small extra fee for the use of credit cards. Whatever over priced drinks you guys bought, tips to the 6 girls and your host, that's an easy $4,000 me thinks. I think you should've asked them while you were there, what was charged for what.

ETA- Next time(if there is a next time) ask them what the total will come out to with what, before any charges to your card to avoid any type of confusion.
