    Default fifty shades of grey

Anyone read it here? I have been hearing a lot of hype about it. Im always down to read a good novel, a red hot one at that. I recently saw an SNL spoof about it so I dedided I might cave in. SOme other authors I like are Zane and Velvet, if that helps you see my interests in novels.

I read it and am on the second book. When I heard that it was originally a Twilight fan fiction I wanted it to die right then and there but I read on and kinda liked it though I felt the the main character Ana was the dumbest bi*ch in the world and I can't count the number of times I had to put the book down and remind myself that it was a book and that there was no one to slap the stupid from in reality..lol

OMG I had no idea it was a twilight fanfic! Half way through book one I was thinking wow this so feels like twilight. RealLy look it it.

    Takes place in Washington.
Pale dark haired book worm, meets sort of scary copper haired rich powerful troubled guy.
I can break it down a lot more but that about covers it.

I have to admit I did love the books and listened to the audiobook version of all three in about week and a half. I'll also admit I totally rubbed a few out to a couple of the scenes.

The author said outright that it was originally a free fanfic posted online. She was swept up with Twilight so she decided to do a spin-off fanfiction in her own words. It was her Twilight but an x-rated version. The characters were originally 'Edward' and 'Bella' - she got enough hype and decided to pull it from the net, changed the names and wha-la now it's a best seller.

The book is awful. Literally shows that you don't have to know how to write to make money. The S&M element is a joke. Maybe if you know nothing about it (like the author), it will be an OK fantasy thing-to-think-about. But if you are running out to imitate this book? LOL no.

    From an amazon review:

"Thanks to the many other perturbed readers who have shared their own choices of the most annoyingly overused phrases in this masterpiece. Following up on their suggestions with my ever-useful Kindle search function, I have discovered that Ana says "Jeez" 81 times and "oh my" 72 times. She "blushes" or "flushes" 125 times, including 13 that are "scarlet," 6 that are "crimson," and one that is "stars and stripes red." (I can't even imagine.) Ana "peeks up" at Christian 13 times, and there are 9 references to Christian's "hooded eyes" and 7 to his "long index finger." Characters "murmur" a whopping 199 times (doesn't anyone just talk?), "clamber" on/in/out of things 21 times, and "smirk" 34 times. Finally, in a remarkable bit of symmetry, our hero and heroine exchange 124 "grins" and 124 "frowns"... which, by the way, seems an awful lot of frowning for a woman who experiences "intense," "body-shattering," "delicious," "violent," "all-consuming," "turbulent," "agonizing" and "exhausting" orgasms on just about every page."

Save your money and spread the word.

If someone is wanting a well written book with S&M/BDSM check out Anne Rice's Beauty trilogy. Or 'As She's Told' by Anneke Jacob.

You can still find the original fanfic online...it's terrible. It's original title was "Master of the Universe", so that should give you an idea. haha.

Hayden said everything I was going to say. I'm going to repeat part of it in essence though.

As a writer/author, Twilight made me want to puke. That something so poorly written could blow up and make such a joke of a writer into a sensation was depressing and disgusting. But, I figured, at least it couldn't get any worse; at least it got people reading.

50 Shades of Gray proved that Twilight getting people to read wasn't a good thing; it only primed them to accept below sub-standard writing as acceptable and even enjoyable. Now somebody even worse than Stephanie Meyer is also rich and famous for writing absolute tripe. Unreal.

As somebody active in the BDSM lifestyle, I'll also parrot to her comments in that vein - from the excerpts I've read, this is going to have the same effect on that scene that F&F had on the street racing scene. It'll blow it up in popularity and completely ruin it for the people who take it seriously.

Somebody get both of these "authors" on a plane headed for the side of a mountain. Fast.

    Yessss!

Sex shops are already holding D/s workshops for the book. I think Babeland was one of them.

I can just see it. "So, how did you realize you were into BDSM?" "I read 50 shades of grey!" D'oh!

The book is so cliche and not knowledgeable about the lifestyle at all. I am just picturing people putting themselves in bad relationships ("every dom is a closed-off selfish asshole" cliche via the book), situations or getting physically and mentally messed up by trying to reenact this hyped-up fantasy.

I read the fan fiction while I was recovering from a spine surgery. It was terrible then, it's terrible now.

That review from amazon made me LOL, for cereal.

Watch them say something like, "Go and read the Marquis de Sade/The Story of O and then come back and we'll talk."

And now I've read it and I have no interest in reading the other two.

Wait - THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE?!?! There is a SERIES of this shit?!

Dear God. Please. Make it stop.

Somewhere, there is a serial killer who hasn't found their niche yet. We must find them. We must find this psychopath and put them to a task to benefit mankind rather than just waste life. We must sit them in a padded cell and force them to read all of Stephanie Myer's books, and then Fifty Shades.

And then we'll tell them that they can make the pain stop.

    For everyone.

I went to an art show based around the book over the weekend, except I didn't know it was a show based around the book, so I got all sorts of confused when the sex store had tables of these books. I keep hearing the hype, and one of the local county library "chains" stopped carrying the books. Whoever did the cover art has no imagination.

The Local BDSM Group I belong to has already received calls from people who have read this book and want to explore. From the moment the book is bought up, they are steered towards learning it properly and safely and instructed that the book is not a real life depiction of the lifestyle and that extreme liberty is taken in regards to the actual workings of BDSM.

I was shallowly involved in the lifestyle for a while.

Reading 50 Shades, as poorly written as it is, made me realize how much I miss it.

My sex life and emotional stability has suffered since leaving. I think that's why I go through such intense periods of depression.

How sad that it took a book like that to make me realize it.

I bought it for lolz, I'm on chapter 6 right now, and this is already what I've had to suffer through:

"I roll my eyes in exasperation and gaze at the pale, brown-haired girl with blue eyes too big for her face staring back at me."

"...and the miles slip away as I hit the pedal to the metal."

"The elevator whisks me at terminal velocity to the twentieth floor."

"If this guy is over thirty, then I'm a monkey's uncle."

"His long index finger presses the button summoning the elevator."

"'holy crap' What the hell is he doing here, looking all out-doorsy with his tousled hair and in his cream chunky-knit sweater jeans, and walking boots? I think my mouth has popped open and I can't locate my brain or my voice."

"His voice is warm and husky like dark melted chocolate fudge caramel...or something."

"With my heart almost strangling me-- because it's in my throat trying to escape from my mouth."

"And from a very tiny, underused part of my brain-probably located at the base of my medulla oblongata near where my subconscious dwells- comes a though: He's here to see you!"

"I feel the color in my cheeks rising again. I must be the color of The Communist Manifesto."

"I am all gushing and breathy- like a child, not a grown woman who can vote and drink legally in the state of Washington."

"I really shouldn't look at his mouth. It's unsettling."

    "He smiles his odd I've-got-a-whopping-big-secret-smile."

"It all happens so fast - one minute I'm falling, the next I'm in his arms and he's holding me tightly against his chest. I inhale his clean wholesome scent. He smells of freshly laundered linen and some expensive body wash. It's intoxicating."

"Inside I'm doing graceful cartwheels around my head, knowing full well that's the only place I can do graceful cartwheels."

"...and I vomit spectacularly on the ground."

"Deep joy, there is a hair tie in my bag."

"...and my very small inner goddess sways in a gentle victorious samba."

And this made me throw my book at the wall,

"One minute he rebuffs me, the next he sends me 14 thousand dollar books, then he tracks me like a stalker. And for that, I have spend the night in his hotel suite, and I feel safe."

I can't believe this is published.

The guy that wrote American Psycho (Brett Easton Ellis) has been talking about making it into a movie on his Twitter. He was talking about casting James Deen as Christian but not sure if that is going to go down. I'd be all about it if James Deen was the star!

The movie rights were sold months ago. Don't know to whom; this is not information that warrants space in my brain. The fact that it happened at all made me throw up a little in my mouth - and a LOT in my brain.

I would love for Bret Easton Ellis to get his crazy little hands on this hot mess. That might make it all worthwhile.

The success of 50 Shades just convinces me that people are starved for erotic fiction, which means they need to look harder. There are tons of kinky books out there and many are better than 50 Shades. Ellora's Cave has been around for years and at least there I can find m/m/f stories and werewolves, with proper warnings about kink.

All I took away from the trilogy is

    1. It is ridiculously unrealistic as simultaneous orgasming every single fucking time does not happen.
    2. The main male character needs to get himself checked for possible premature ejaculation - they all seem to be very short trysts.
    3. Every man and his dog now may think about trying some form of S&M and inexperience. That combined with horny women wanting to experiment after 50 shades = emergency room visits.
