    Default Is stripping your passion?

Last night I got carried away with a conversation with a customer, again. I know I need to break this habit and focus on the money, but sometimes I get lost in the topics of our conversations.

Anyway, the conversation led up to us discussing people who work to make good money, although it isn't their ideal job. In other words, they aren't making money doing what they love. As the conversation led on, something clicked inside my head. I LOVE dancing. I've always loved to dance and I do consider it a passion of mine, amongst other things. However, I would often look down at what I do for a living due to the stigma and stereotypes attached to stripping. I always thought I'd be more respected if I were a dancer in one of the shows on the Las Vegas strip.

I realized that if I were to drop my negativity toward the industry and ONLY FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE ASPECTS (other than the money), I can legitimately say that I AM LIVING OUT MY PASSION FOR DANCE.

I really, really, love stripping. Sure, there are shitty parts but even Bill Gates and Donald Trump or the Queen of England have to do shitty things from time to time.

the thing that I hate most about it is having to deal with stupid customers so that should really say something. People don't want to believe that we can love and enjoy our jobs because of society's fucked up views on sex. The idea that we can enjoy being sexual and be okay with getting paid for it is like, too much for some people.

I've loved stripping in certain locations. Personally, although the general definition of stripping may stay the same, the details vary so greatly from one location to the next that I found myself hating stripping in a location like LA, while I really enjoyed it in Palm Springs and in Guam.

It is my passion. Although I might go through a bad couple months, it never turns into "ok I should get a new job" instead I start to think "Ok where would money be better right now?". I've always strived to get better and better and to be totally honest if I didn't have a SO that I loved very much, I would just take off, travel the world dancing. I'm sure that will run out one day but for the last few years, it's absolutely been my passion.

I don't think stripping is my passion.

I used to really love stage performances, and I still do enjoy pole tricks, but I feel like when customers stare at my boobs or butt while I dance it erodes at my happy thoughts. It's all motivated by sexuality and fantasy so I don't feel like stripping is my "calling" or something that makes me feel fulfilled in life. I am proud of myself for adapting and sticking with it through thick and thin, but it's not the same sense of pride as graduating college or moving into my condo...you know, "traditional" life experiences.

When the money is good then I'm content, just like I would be at any job where I could make $100+ an hour. But there are drawbacks and my issue with stripping is that it's so sexual, so personal, and so superficial that it's hard not to take things personally (i.e. someone objectifying you). If a patient is spitting at me and swearing I don't take it personally because I know they are mentally ill, sick, on drugs, etc. and it's not in a sexual context.

Overall the money I make dancing (even when it was REALLY GOOD) is not that much more than I'd make working full time as a paramedic. The difference is that as a paramedic I am judged on my treatment of patients, my attendance, my attitude, etc versus how I look and how well I hustle money. As a paramedic I'll have a consistent pay check and still only have to work 2 days a week (24 hour shifts). That still gives me 5 days off and a nice nest egg, without the sexuality and constant worry about "if I'm going to have a good night".

I think about this from time to time because I get an amazing high off of a good night dancing, I walk off stage with lots of money feeling powerful and sexy and the rush is amazing but some nights even if people are tipping generously I am still not happy and I dismiss the customers as shallow perverts. I don't think stripping is my passion but I enjoy it most of the time and crave the high when I'm away from it. I will defend anyone's right to strip because there are positive, enjoyable aspects but the industry is far from perfect and the bad aspects that creep in on my high keep it from being my passion I suppose.

I only realllly love my job when I've made a good chunk of change at the end of the week. Otherwise, I'm not too fond of it. I hate talking to people (hence why I drink at work), I hate rejection and I hate when customers cross my boundaries. Oh and I HATE being onstage. We have no pole and I can't do cool floorwork like the splits or the clock leg thing :/ Thank god I'm good looking and have a decent body and get fully nude onstage. Otherwise I'd never get tipped..lol

Yes, it is. And I've always felt weird thinking that...like I'm not suppose to be passionate about it, but I love to dance, even since I was a kid, I love the rush. I never got to be a an iceskater or the ballerina, but this pole life satisfies me. Life is what we make it. No one can tell you what you should and shouldn't be passionate about.

I love to dance and have always been into performing (i.e. ballet and acting), but the only reason I strip is because I'm good at it. I actually hate it. Even when I have a really good night, I still hate it. I think I'm just burnt out. I can see what you mean about the performance aspect of it though... I still enjoy going on stage sometimes. Picking out your music, having your own dance style. Although I enjoy it even more when someone makes it rain a shit ton

To the OP, yes stripping is definitely still my passion. I discovered that when I went back to it.I wish I had never have left

Great post. At this point in time money is bad..Like some of the earlier posters, when the money is good i love my job. But when the money is bad , as it is now i loathe it and it isnt really a passion. It feels more like too much effort for not enough income. I feel like dancing in a long sleeve shirt and pants when people are being as stingy and cheap as they are now.

I was passionate about the performance aspect of dancing; the lights, the perfect song, the fake smoke machine, everyone watching you because you're so badass...

If we lived in times when exotic dancing was entertainment as opposed to dry humping and dealing with management BS I would certainly still be dancing.

There is nothing like having the stage to yourself and expressing your feelings in that moment...and getting paid to do it. Selling LDs and CRs...meh.

I am joining a burlesque group and starting next week! So excited! I miss the crowd seduction aspect of dancing so much.

Great post..I love dancing. I've gone through some shitty times but overall I still enjoy doing it. GUys who are great athletes get to benefit by being pro athletes. Why can't we benefit from having the skill to dance and great bodies?
