Duh Most Popular Baby Names 2011

Everyone is so hot for my name right now. I'm sick of guys telling me that my stripper name is their daughter's, granddaughter's, niece's, adopted-kid's name.... perhaps it is time to change my name to Raspberry or something.

What I find interesting about the popular names is how many are traditional ones, like Sophia. I wonder why that is happening. Oddly I danced with a Chloe and I hated her. My dancing name was a common name and so is my real first name. When I would tell people my real first name (which was popular when I was born)I always hear they know someone with it.

Maybe it's me but I don't understand this mentality of naming children the names that everyone else has. For example when I was growing up many of my classmates were named Jennifer. There was always 2-3 girls in the class with that name. Or Michael, all the boys seemed to be named that. I understand not naming your kid something made up or pretty bad but why the most common? For a girl I've always like Caitlin.

    I know right? LOL. ^^^^^

Of the top 10 names, I have danced with 7 of them. I am one of them. LOL. Aside from Abigail and Olivia, the names that are listed are most certainly Stripper names in every single club I have worked at.

    Sophia
    Isabella
    Emma
    Olivia
    Ava
    Emily
    Abigail
    Madison
    Mia
    Chloe

Anything's better than that Aiden/Jayden/Brayden/ virus that went around a few years ago. Over half the people I know who had male babies recently gave the kid some variation of those names. I'd hate the be the teacher who has to sift through a class roster like that.

When I was growing up, every time I was in a store and they had personalized items, I'd check for my name. And they'd never have it. They have Kathleen (my name is Gaelic for Kathleen) but that's not my name.

And when I was in high school, there were two other Caitlins in my class.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I started seeing Caitlin among the personalized mugs and pencils and what have you.

Or there's the horrifying trend of parents giving their children rather normal names and just butchering the spelling.

Neighbours called their kid Mahoney, which I assume is pronounced Mar-nee. They pronounced it Ma-Ho-ne

I really don't like any of those top 10 names aside from Oliva. The rest do sound kinda stripper-y to me. Maybe because I've worked with all those names too? Heh.

I find 'old names' to be pretty. Maria. Evelyn. Alice.

    Boring taste.

But +1 for the cool post Sophia!

My name is in the bible, and never on anything anywhere and has never been popular in any year... and though Ive never met anyone with my name, seems like everyone I know, knows another person with my name, but usually not spelled the same as mine. As for kiddo, she has a traditional African name, that has never been popular in any year, and Id never heard of it before I named her, yet we see it *everywhere*....its on TV, in the movies, and shes had several friends with her name. Way to go with trying to be different lol

Now, I swear to god, I have heard of this before, but always thought it was just a joke and didnt *actually* happen... I was at the hair salon over the weekend, and someone called in an appt request..the receptionist came up to my stylist while she was doing my hair and was like..okay, on Tues you have a 3p with Candida. And my stylist was like....okay...then a few seconds later called out to her and was like..wait..What you say?!!! Who??? And the receptionist repeated..Candida...clear as day. I almost choked...

I LOOOOOOOVE Evelyn. I think Evie is such a pretty nickname. I loved Eva too. They were top on my list for my daughters name but my boyfriend hated them. Asshole...

I love the name Olivia. Since I don't plan on having kids, I think that's what I'll name my next puppy.

My RL name was in the top 10 list throughout all of the 90's and it's slowly decreasing in popularity. It's almost all the way at #50 now, which is really surprising to me. Oh well, trends change.

A name halfway down the popularity scale is a good thing!

I have to contend with a ton of "my daughters name is the same as yours..." comments. It's annoying! Don't these fools know it's not sexy?

Also, I when I was in grammar school I was never the only Sophia. There was always one more (for a couple of years there were two other Sophias!) I always had to use my last name initial... Sophia X. for example. It was so annoying. Other kids would write "John", "Mike", "Elizabeth" on their assignments.... I always had to put my last initial.... I hated it.

Oddly enough, even when I was Sophia #3 in my class I always knew things could be worse.... there were FOUR (4) Chanels. Chanel R. W. B. and T.

If ever there was evidence of a collective unconscious... I think this would be it!

LoL! Awe! I love my last name...and interestingly enough, without really meaning to, all of my fathers daughters, the five of us even the married ones still have his name. When we all met up, it was funny to realize we all still had his name...but its hard to let go, sort of our personal tribute to him.

The funny thing too is that my first name is I guess a popular British name, my last name is Scottish, and I have this bubbly kid like voice...people always imagine me to be a young little cheerleader type/valley white girl...then in walks this statuesque intimidating black woman... Whenever I talk to someone on the phone before meeting with them, they have this super confused look on their face.
