I have a web design/tech startup where I work in collaboration with partners. However, I also do in-call body rub at an agency on an on-call basis and often have to parlor sit, with no possibility of working on my programs/apps/sites from there.
I don't have a car, so I have to take the bus a half hour each way, not to mention the sessions themselves and the time to prepare and clean up afterwards.
It seems like every time I get "in a flow" from one place, I get called to go to the other. It's really frustrating because it wastes so much time, forces me out of my flow state (where I get super productive).
I hate feeling like I'm giving less than 50% to each thing (because of the "waste" time of transportation and preparation), and it's looking like something's got to give. I have a cover story for my techie colleagues, who this frustrates as well.
Now, it's hard for me to even want to get immersed in my tech work, because I'm always on edge that I'll be yoinked away, have to shut down everything, etc.
This is frustrating. The parlor owner is really not understanding of my time commitments and demands I have at my tech startup, and I'm starting to become depressed because of all the stress....
I just graduated as well, so I'd have thought that this would give me more time to commit to my web design business, but it's really not.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the body rub work and need the extra $$$ (since I'm only barely making bills, etc form my startup after payroll/rent/etc), but I'm already only getting 3 hours of sleep a night, and I'm just about to have a nervous breakdown.
How do I make myself buck up? How can I get used to this? More importantly, how can I make my days more efficient and productive? All this start-and-stop time is really eating at my day.
