Default Soundproofing. How To Keep The Noise Down.

I live in a place where you can hear someone sneeze on the side of the block when the window is closed. I can also hear footsteps and pages turnning downstairs with the door closed, so that probably means they can hear everything in my room. What can I do to prevent people from hearing me? I can't install soundproof foam or blankets. I was thinking of building a soundproof tent but that's a real hassle to set up and put away, everyday.

Mmm... Let them be jealous of all the sex they think you're having?

Nightmare, my old house was like that. Fuck knows what the neighbours thought, especially as my bf was mostly away at work while I was working. ;-) x

Rug on the floor. Decorative fabric on the walls and ceiling. Towel under the door. All of these will help, but not much if the walls are super thin. You want to trap the sound and not let it bounce around your room more then it has already. Fabric and soft furniture will absorb the sound. Bare walls will bounce and amplify it.

It is really just a guessing game but you do want to try to block the sound..... so furniture and fabric and blankets on the wall that you care most about..... you can put a towel to block the sound for coming thru the door.....I would put heavy curtains on the window... also make your that no fall is flat.... you can make some shape out of froam and farbic and place on the wall....I would make you sound proofing your decorations....

That's for this! I was wondering as well. Maybe tapestries. Lots of wall hangings. Sound travels through an empty room so fill it with stuff. Bookshelves can be a good barrier.

If you ever get any noise complaints say you have a chronic sex/masturbation problem and are working with your doctor about it? Haha.

Great advice guys! I've always been wondering about this too.
Think I'll give the rugs, and towel underneath the door a try.

Although where are you gonna get decorative fabric based stuff to hang on the walls?

AH, I have the same problem! In my house, I can hear my neighbour's cellphone vibrate (I'm 100% serious, it wakes me up sometimes). Thanks for the tips!

Big silk scarves? Or even pretty scarves that come with Indian saris? Lace curtains on the walls in contrasting colors? Not sure if there is a fabric store close to you or a thrift store.

My neighbor does the same thing! He puts it on his floor just above my head. It makes me jump all over my room cause I think its MY cellphone that's ringing.

I have the same issue, my walls and windows are super thin and I know my neighbors can probably hear everything! I put up old comforters on the window to help block the noise, seems to help a little. Not sure what to do about the walls..I stacked some speaker/dirty laundry/furniture against my living room wall not sure if that really blocks the sound much since I can still hear my neighbors when they argue

You can't. You have to move, or you have to deal with them complaining to the landlord. Trust me, I dealt with this exact thing and was forced to move because of it.

If you own the place and are willing to spend 5-10k+ you may be able to do something about it. It involves adding a fluffy drywall layer inside each wall, adding another layer under your floorboards, reinsulating all of your windows, and replacing your doors with heavier ones.

Right. You can't completely soundproof. But you can lessen it a bit.

Omg I'm not the only one! I can hear the guy above me (I live in a 4 family home. Like a "quadroplex"? lol) every time he takes a piss! ugh it's really distracting to hear sneezing, coughing, yawning, convos, tv's etc. when I'm tryingto work. I'm preparing to move VERY soon.

    Good luck to you all.

    So I found these:

You pretty much just pin them to the wall and that's it. I'm going to order two to cover the window and door.

    Default External microphone

I'm often camming when my mother is in the next room, and the walls in our house are as paper- bad isolation. It would cost a lot of money to sound proof my room, only isolating the door would not do anything. If I don't play music I have to talk and moan quietly and the guys often complain they can't hear me, and if I play music, I can speak and moan louder, but they still complain they can't hear me because of music. I tested this with recording my voice and than going outside the room, if I play music I must also talk louder to be heard and than I am heard also outside the room .I saw some girls use an external mic and speak directly into it. I thought this would probably make my voice louder and also more clear despite the background music. But I don't know what to buy so it will work well and will be compatible with encoder on SM. Will something like this be ok? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plantronics-.../dp/B000GCFN72

Unfortunately I can't give you advice on the matter, but an external microphone is a good idea! I have the same issue and have been looking for a solution for it. I will have to check this out! I was thinking maybe a headset too... even if it looks a bit funny, at least they have sound haha

Also, someone told me to play the "I'm trying to not get caught!" card. Guys seem to LOVE that. "Sorry, I can't be too loud, my mom is in the next room... I don't want to get caught!" should drive them crazy

You might want to cut out using sound completely. I cammed without sound for years and it didn't really hurt my earnings. There's alot of threads around here about camming without sound. I would link them but I'm feeling kind of lazy. For a short time I was using a blue tooth headset then it broke and I didn't feel like replacing it. Now I use this Blue Yeti Mic>> http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphon.../dp/B002VA464S. I love it.

I have the same problem with sound when I cam at certain times. I have an external mic, but I just saw an ad for a headset that will even type when You speak into it. It's called dragon, something or other.. I'm waiting for the commercial for it to come on again so I can get the full name of the headset, and order one. I don't know if You could use it with the encoder.
It never fails, when I'm camming late at night, that's when a prvt. will want me to scream his name and moan loud!
I've tried using the "I can't because someone is in the next room", but then the guys get fixated on that, and start asking weird questions about whether I would include that family member.Yuck!

^I think you mean the dragon writes software. It's software you don't need a special headset for it. Here is a link to the site http://shop.nuance.com/store/nuanceu...f-2013-digital, wonder if it would work on a cam site. That would be brilliant if it did.

The mic on my webcam died on me recently, so I bought this mic from Amazon. I had to mess around with my computer settings at first because it was trying to be my speakers AND my microphone for some reason, but it's been fantastic otherwise. My sound is way clearer and I don't need to be extremely close to the mic to be heard.

I use this http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Deskt...ech+microphone and it works like a charm. logitech has some cheaper models too for around $30. its a great idea, getting an external mic. I think its best to use sound, I think not using sound WILL hurt your earnings. besides, when you can do dirty talk you can get them off without having to do as much

Oh, yes. When I can, I try to make a joke and explain that I have neighbors (the truth). Like I can scream at will day & night.

Thank you for the mic suggestions & input, everyone. I just started thinking about buying my first one. I'll have fun looking at these.

I've cammed without sound for years because I am just too umcomfortable talking to a screen. but I do have USB mic from logitech and I am considering getting a USB headset mic. I can hear my neighbours having sex so I assume they can hear me doing shows. so if I really wanted to i could invest some money in a mic USB mics seem to be better than jack mics.
