    Default dermatologist appointment!

I feel so much better that I finally made an appointment to get my acne under control. It varies from almost nothing to moderate. It doesn't have to do w stress or that time of the month though, so i am thinking it might just be food allergies. My son has aniphilactic reactions to some foods so maybe thay came from me. Can any of you share your experiences? I know about spiro and will ask about that. Any other good tips? I want to get my money's worth! Lol

I went to a dermatologist last fall after battling acne since 11. I'd recently stopped Proactiv because it was making my skin very thin and fragile, but then my acne just exploded completely out of control for months. I knew I wanted something prescription, but not antibiotics (they stop working after a short while) or topical (my acne is all over and I didn't want to spend the time applying creams twice a day all over) and spiro was out because my acne wasn't hormonal. I have a few friends that took Accutane as teens and they are still flawless and have no bad lasting effects. The derm I went to is known for prescribing Accutane (it can be kind of hard to find because of it's bad rep), and when he went over my options, I said I wanted the one that made my acne go away forever. It's kind of a hassle because you have to go in every month and pee into a cup and get blood drawn, and the meds are very tightly regulated. But, my six months just ended and I am FLAWLESS. I do not have a single pimple, clogged poor, blackhead, whitehead or growing cyst ANYWHERE. My back looks so good that I cut all my hair off and now I only want to wear halter tops. The only bad side effects I had have been very dry lips and the need to drink A LOT of water. Other than that, it's been great! I know there are a lot of bad experience stories out there, and everyone's different, but my Accutane experience has been so pleasant that I would even recommend it to others!

Thank you so much! I have been considering accutane and I was nervous. This helps.
