Hey ladies, looking for you input on this topic.
I recently sold my desktop PC. It had an i7 processor, 8gb of ram, windows 7, the whole gamut. Reason being was I found it very frustrating to use for webcamming stuff. Other then the MFC software...lol. But that's a whole other story. FMLE (the encoder) was constantly lagging/crashing, opening photoshop would take forever, etc. I think this all has to do with the windows operating system. For example on start up it would take 1.5 minutes from the time I pressed the power button to the time I was able to use the system. The boot process takes that long!
In contrast my macbook pro takes only 35 seconds from the time I press the start button till the time I can use the machine. Yes I timed both on various tasks to make comparison. That's how I came to the conclusion, "it must be the operating system!". And for the record, no my PC did not have viruses or anything of that nature.
In the past year I have been using my macbook for camming for the reasons above. However I kind of like to multi task...lol. Meaning while I have my cam running I like to compress video for my clips store, etc. Time is money and frankly I don't like wasting time especially when I am in "free" chat. So having 2 computers is something that I desire. On my macbook pro I know if I am running the encoder I cannot compress videos etc. Furthermore, camming from my laptop means it has to be well ventilated. If I have it sitting on my bed I need to have it on top of something or else the encoder starts to lag slightly. I have already blown 2 fans in this laptop (which apple replaced for me for free).
For this reason I am considering buying a imac. They seem to be better ventilated then the macbooks.
