I have been dancing for a year and a half now and I still can't seem to do pole tricks. I can climb up but that's about it. I've mostly spent my time learning how to dance well and do floor work (sucks when I go work at a club that doesn't allow floor work though). I finally got it to where I could hang upside down but I don't have the upper body strength to pull myself back up..

If I had to pick the muscles needed to do pole tricks I'd go with upper body work. I have a lot of strength in my legs but that doesn't seem to help me with pole tricks much, lol.

Girls on here who can actually do pole tricks will be more help but that's my input as someone who has been trying that hardest, lol.

I try to practice sometimes when it is slow at work but I think I do better at trying when outside the club (like when I go to one of my friends' house and play on their pole). I still get nervous when trying new things in front of girls at work. Having an audience bugs the shit out of me.

I have been poling for almost 2 years and close to being advanced. You just have to keep practicing and having faith. As far as climbing and inverting, the studios didn't help me much, I think DirdyBirdy on YouTube is awesome. I learned how to climb and invert from watching her tutorials

I learned all those things in a couple of months. Practice when it's slow and have someone spot you.

I practiced at work when it was slow. We had two stages with poles, and the back stage was good to practice on cuz it had a mirror. I asked other girls to help and spot me. I got to the point where I could climb and do spins in one night. (^-^)

You do need some upper body strength to do it, tho. A friend of mine couldn't do hardly anything since she had NO upper body strength. (~_~) She took a lot longer to learn just becuz of that.

I also went to a pole studio and they helped get the balls to hang upside down and flip from the ground upside down. I dont like to do it though. I have issues being upside down.

Practice. Lots and lots of practice. Girls all learn at different rates. Some learn faster than others. I still can't hang by one leg or with my side. *shrug*

took me a month to learn how to climb, spins and stuff like a day....the more advance pole spins like the corkscrew about a month and a half. hanging upside down about 3 months. i am working on the flag but my abs are not even near strong enough. i say practice when its slow....if you're not wanting to spend time with custies....practice.you can buy a pole forhome use for 300 something..platinum stages or xpole are your best bet. do not get the cheaper end of the line play poles....they will break on you or fall down. then you'll be really scared

After over 7 years of pole dancing I am still learning new things, so you have to look at it as a work in progress=) it shouldn't take long to learn some of the basic foundational moves though! Just practice, practice, practice! Don't be afraid to make mistakes on the pole--some of my best transitions/tricks have been the result of me attempting to do something but making a mistake! good luck=D
