Exclamation CLUBS IN THE NY AREA? COMPLEXION CRITERIAS? Advice!

hey SW! im new to the site and very interested in getting into the industry. i was tired of all the generic google "how to become a stripper" pages.. but thankfully i came across this site!! i need advice on maybe what clubs or areas in NY i may be able to go to audition that i would fit the demographic.

Im hispanic (afro-dominican descent),very curvy, medium brown skin with long thick curly hair.. i spoke to a friend of mine who was a former stripper and i was told the main look now a days that clubs are going for i dont fit because im not of the lighter complexion, and if i want to make it with my skin tone i need the almost perfect body, or get surgery (which i dont think i need cuz im well endowed in both areas i believe lol). idk if its because she was fired being she got much bigger (which isnt a surprise to me im a photographer as well and deal with models so i know how certain industries work)and much darker than i am. i was never insecure about my skin color but is this true in most of the clubs out here?

i know the industry is more glorified now because of all the "come ups" girls are making by meeting and doing business with rappers and etc and they all seem to look the same, light skin, pretty, with huge "assets".. but from the strip clubs ive been too ive seen girls my complexion and darker with no so great bodies who make decent money. I know club Perfections in queens would take me... but its too close to home so i need other options

any and every advice/experiences are welcomed!!

Sounds like Sin City is the best place for you since Queens is out of the running.

If they are still hiring dark skinned girls at Magic city and KOD, they hire dark skin girls everywhere. That girl was probably just jelly

^ Lol, word.. I don't think skipping over Manhattan clubs would be selling yourself short. They know the type of girls that they're looking for and don't hire any girls that look like she could work in Sin City, Perfections, Sue's..etc. My homegirl tried damn near every club in the city and they all told her flat out she doesn't fit the bill. Some of the bouncers laughed right in her face and said they had enough black girls..mind you she's gorgeous and got hired on the spot in Perfections, lol, didn't even have to audition. I just think the city is a waste of time for "urban" dancers..imho.

The Bronx favors hispanic girls, from what I hear most of their clubs are hood and can get rowdy(never been)..but lots of make it rain types in there. Brooklyn has a few, Peyton's and Pumps. Divey, money to be made, small, friendly environment, good for beginners. So far have you auditioned anywhere yet?

I'm so glad you said that because when I've told people that doormen bouncers and managers can be that nasty and proud of their racist hiring policy, they tend to disbelieve me. Some of them laugh like you are the ugliest piece of shit and are utterly delusional to try to get work there. And then you walk down the street and white dudes are hitting on you. It's so fucking laughable. Just remember they are delusional--not you.

When I worked at Rick’s and Cheetahs, they seemed to value diversity. As long as your curves are proportionate and your body is rather tight, those are two Manhattan clubs that you may want to try.

Listen, I didn't know shit about shit when I started dancing. My first club was Sin City because 1. I have a few bigger tattoos I didn't want to cover up 2. I lived kind of nearby at the time, Harlem and 3. It is a FUN club. I have worked at one club in Manhattan and I have to tell you, the energy is just different. Sin City can be tricky to make money now, because it is sort of slow but I honestly recommend it as a starter club. You learn how to hustle. There are no champagne rooms, only a VIP booth, where you charge what you want and keep it all (minus the $20 you give the house to go in). So if you are nervous about champagne rooms as I was it's good in that way. All I am saying is, I love Sin because the energy is good, house fees are low and it made me really appreciate my body. Girls there can dance, yes, but you'll learn. And then when/if you go to a Manhattan club, you'll have more work ethic and hustle skills than most of the other girls. And also, there are some nights I make $200-$300 from stage dancing alone, which is mandatory, so it's nice for it to bring in $$! Good luck!

I have yet to see a NYC club turn dancers away based on race. It's usually a body type thing; mahattan clubs want THIN dancers - preferably rail thin and busty. Rick's, Ten's, Cheetah are more willing to hire curvier (not thick, not fat) ladies.

Clubs outside of manhattan aren't nearly has choosy and you probably have a good shot at all of them.
It's not about what you do for a living, it's about who you want to be.

    Hello,

I am a black female (dark skinned, similar looking to Kerry Washington yet with D cup enhanced breasts and I'm 100lb/5'5. I worked for Rick's many years off and on. However, I did try a few other club's and did not enjoy them : Cheetah and Headquarters. All three clubs had plenty women of all races and sizes! The nicest management - Cheetahs, the worst Rick's. I don't recommend Cheetah even though the management is wonderful bc unfortunately, business is slow and they have too many girls working at once. A 9 to 1 ratio. So if you're into dancing to make money, I don't recommend it. Ricks can be fantastic at times to make $$$$ but you have to know how to hustle bc a lot of girls there are veterans. Note: I experienced racism from a manager there and PLENTY of customers but I've learned that if the GM knows, he will remove a racist from the club. Headquarters was always empty everytime I gave that place a try. And there were a lot of things that didn't seem right there..but moving on...

Flashdancers was very blunt. I went for an audition and was told that there were already a few black girls working so they couldn't hire me but come back soon bc they like my 'look'........... Disrespectful yet it seems that we are sometimes considered a 'fetish' in adult entertainment so to club owners, they don't want to hire too many 'minority women' but only have just enough to make guys with the 'fetish' happy. I really appreciated Rick's especially for hiring A LOT of everything. This is not 1940. Men like variety and remember, just bc one Manhattan club says no, try another! Go everywhere and you'll find your place. Don't be worried about your size bc even in 'thin clubs' I've had customers tell me they prefer curvier girls! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. By the way, Ive seen girls of your description make a lot of money at Rick's and Lace (I've never personally tried that place). In queens, I know you'd make TONS at Perfections. GOOD LUCK.
