    Default stage performance do's & don'ts??

Hey!! Preparing for my auditions and trying to get used to the dancing... I have a background in diff dance styles (modern, ballet, burlesque, etc) and I wanna.know when a stage routine becomes ”too dancy”?. What to.do and what not to

I'm new to the industry and currently putting together my dancer persona...I wanna bring back the actual art of exotic dancing and seduction not just booty clappin ...which is fine within itself.. I just would like to leave some to the imagination to keep the custies guessing and wanting more, much like burlesque or pinup styles but more exotic.obviously lol. Don't see that much now a.days everything seems more straight forward. Is the style of dancing not popular anymore? Or should I go for it to try and differenciate myself from the other dancers??

    Help!!

I couldn't really give you an answer since I don't know the club you'll be in and what the dancing looks like, but here are my two cents: I have seen a lot of girls dance differently on stage than what I would call regular stage dancing. Sometimes, it looks really great and sexy and they get a lot of attention from the guys and lots of tips. Other times though, people in the crowd would be like WTF IS SHE ON? DOES SHE KNOW WHERE SHE IS?
lol I would say give it a try if it makes you feel sexy, just try not to dance too fast, slower generally = sexier.

I used to work with a girl who was on a dance team for her college before she started dancing. Long story short, she got nick named "Flashdance". It was always a mess. It didnt help she always danced to techno lol. She used to do these crazy arm flails, and overly dramatic hair flips. Wise words; please DONT do that lol. Slow and sexy, always best. Its allways nice to want to stand out, but sometimes its best to just do what some other girls do, just better signature moves is generallly what sets girls apart. I recently moved from a club where all the girls, including me, did alot of the "stripper walk around the pole" type stuff, and TONS of floor work. Now, in atl, i stand out so much on stage simply because most girls at my current club are alll about booty shaking and just bending over and showing their pussy. Me personally, i dont even take my bottoms off and nearly always bank on stage. I sell vip like a mothertrucker, lliterally every night ive worked there, which has been about a month and a half, and at least one night a week i do two. Im not bragging im simply making the point, just be different, but still stripperfy ur routine, and it pays off. Another thing that helps in being different, look different. If everyone wears two pieces, wear a sexy dancer dress. I saw one girl once at my old club who actually took two big feather fans on stage. Sometimes she banked, sometimes people were like "wtf??"... work the crowd and cllientele to ur advantage, dont try to appeal to one specific type of people (unless thats what u want) i used to just be a typical rock white girl, but being in atl, ive since gotten an awesome dark spray tan, and wear different outfits aside from my normal black. It pays off. The bouncer calls me the hybrid of the club since my look appeals to so many different people.

To wrap up, just dont do anything customers may have seen in Flashdance, Footloose, or Grease. (1 or 2)

thanks so much for the advice!

lmfaoo @ JcMarch that actually made me laugh lol and yea i totally see where you're coming from. im really into sultry/mysterious burlesque style dances and performances so i figured it would go great considering its seductive as well... just minus the removal of clothing, which id be able to do.. but i was afraid that ppl would be like "ughh get to the ass shakin already" since thats what seems to be so popular now a days. but i will try different styles i really wanna stand out from the other dancers especially cuz im known to have a "girl next door but mysterious" character so i thought it would be really fun to incorporate those dance styles with my look/persona etc and step out my comfort zone...

Would you bring Chinese food to Taco Bell? If you're going to a booty clapping club then you should know what you're signing up for. I wouldn't walk in there and try to blast Pantera.

Definitely depends on the club. Most clubs in my area, the girls walk back and forth, shake their ass, show their pussy, and hand out posters. "Show" over.

At the club where I work, it's a little different... we have everything from girls who do hardcore burlesque to serious pole athletes. Former dancers have done shows using fire, snakes, basically leading a yoga class, bringing fans on stage and doing a marilyn monroe routine, flexing like a bodybuilder... So unique stuff is pretty normal and expected.

Realize that the more unique your show is, the more nichey your market becomes. If you have a hot bod and can shake your ass, everybody can appreciate that. A lot of the younger guys don't like the burlesque girls. Pole tricks don't usually translate into selling dances- a lot of guys can be intimidated by girls who can throw around way more weight than they can. Some of the crazier shows will downright scare off your customers.

In booty clap land, I'd suggest slowly adding burlesque elements to your show, if that's what you want to do. Coming out on stage and teasing with a feather boa= good. Coming out on stage with huge feather fans, headdress, and sixty pounds of tulle= too much.

Whenever I do the burlesque or pinup look I only attract the 65 and up crowd. Depends on your demographic

I think that it's important to remember that you're a stripper. You are there to make money and stage is a way to promote yourself as a stripper who wants to make money at a stripclub by stripping. It is nice to think that you will bring back the 'art of exotic dancing' but no one cares. They want to see a girl doing what strippers do. If you want to bring back exotic dancing join a burlesque troupe and do that on your days off.

I go onstage. Show my pussy, jiggle my tits. bouncy bouncy. Show's over. I'm not much of a performer I admit it. I'm like an "anime fuckpuppet." When customers complain (the aberrant few) I plead limited mobility issues

Do what you're most comfortable doing. It shouldn't be about copying what everyone else is doing, nor should it be about you trying to achieve some ideal "days-gone-by" example of what you wish exotic dancing was. Do what you know you can pull off sexily and what you will not feel weird doing. At my first club, the standard there was rolling around, shaking ass, tits-in-tippers'-faces, occasionally hang upside down on pole. There was a girl who had started dancing a decade ago who refused to do any of that. I don't think she ever did floor work or pole tricks. She did just fine.

On the other hand, luscious sadie is right, you're there to maximize your profit, not try to get drooling boys to appreciate the lost art of sensual dance during your 15 minutes a night on stage. If you're really freaking good at other kinds of exotic dancing, give it a go - you might gain attention by doing something different. But if you don't even really know what you're doing, but can pull off the booty-clapping, stick to that. Looking put-together and assured of what you're doing up there will always trump doing something different in a sloppy, unsure way.
Don't try to win over the haters. You are not the Jerk Whisperer.

Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

thank you! @Aurora_Sunset i understand completely.

i know every club is different, especially from all the reviews ive read... but i think the point alot of ppl are missing is that im not trying to do this whole huge performance thats totally different to try and change the game or whatever it is or try to teach the history of exotic dancing ... im just a performer, part of my overall persona in general is like a flirtacious tease, and there r dance styles that cater around that character so i wondered if there would be anything wrong with adding that to the "standard" striptease.. i like to perform and sometimes i like to incorporate something different just to spice things up a bit. and as a customer myself, which im sure i cant be the only one, i know when i tip the girls i go for the one i think is unique or is doing something different/stands out from the other girls and is doing it well... but like i said im new to this so im only here to learn. i get what i have to do on stage to profit...

my thing is, is there a difference between a stripper and exotic dancer that im missing?.. isnt the concept of stripping to remove clothing? or at least have the option to? not hating on the girls who go in two pieces at all cuz i know theyll be nights ill probably do the same.. but i didnt think there was anything against switching things up now and then.. much like a dancer who gets a costume and gets a bit into character and still does the booty and titty shaking.. i do the same as well as with certain types of music..just get into the mood by default.

i appreciate the feedback tho... even the more harsher ones lol... and i dont wanna sound annoying with all my questions i just tend to do alotttt of research before i get myself into anything even tho i know experience is the best teacher.. just trying to avoid a clash between the industry in reality and what I think the industry is

Best advice anyone can give you is watch this video and do not imitate it. Except her rocking ass body.

If you really want to go this route I would suggest you find
1)A stage-focused club i.e. a club where a majority of your income is generated on stage and
    2) a club that pays you to work (hawaii, europe, hongkong. Etc)

Otherwise, it just isn't worth it. I fall into that 'performing is all i care about' category and finding a stage oriented club that paid me was the only way I was able to make it work. Even if I made more money dancing in clubs that were all about lapdances, nothing hurt my artistic pride more than performing for a bunch of people who just didn't give a fuck.

You're not going to do well if you want to waltz into a strip club with your nose up in the air like that. Its STRIPPING, you're not going to revolutionize anything. If you like to leave more to the imagination do something else because it is STRIPPING, as in, you get naked. Like someone else said, if you want to twirl around and do some fancy shit go join a burlesque group or whatever, this is STRIPPING.

So annoyed by girls who have never stripped and think they're going to just be the most amazing piece of ass to grace a stage with their 'classy' acts. I leave the finger pointing and laughing to the customers and other girls but I don't feel sorry for those types.

Please do differentiate yourself from the rest of us. You're gonna have custies fighting over the ATM to get actual exotic and seductive dances from you and us strippers are going to watch you on stage and realize we've been doing it wrong and we will just watch in awe as you grace us with your ever so classy presence.
