    Default vascectomy or birth control?

Should my husband get a vasectomy, or me stay with the Mirena?

He just doesn't want to because of some male pride or something...

I want off the mirena because of the unstoppable bleeding after sex and cramps after sex.

I like the Mirena because I don't get a period.

    What do you all think?

Depends, if you are sure you are done having babies go with the vasectomy. I don't trust hormonal forms of birth control but that's just me. My dad had it done and he doesn't regret it at all.

I couldn't get a vasectomy in the Army because I did not have two kids. Well Duh. I wanted zero kids. The Air Force probably is the same way.

Getting your tubes tied is a *much* more complicated and invasive surgery than a vasectomy, and therefore runs a higher risk of danger and complications. That would be my reason for voting for vasectomy over it.

I think 'male pride' is a silly reason to not get one, it'd be one thing if he was worried about effects of the surgery. I know several guys who have them, and they all seem to be happy with it. It seems a lot better then having to stay on birth control until you hit menopause.
Not having a period is nice, but only you can know if that benefit outweighs any complications you may experience.
You could say it hurts your female pride to be on birth control! That actually affects your hormones ; D

Vasectomy is cheaper in the long run, easier recovery, and very effective. My husband is getting one next year when my IUD expires (I've had a Paragard since 2003), and my dad got one.

IMO, he should go with the vasectomy. Seems more fool-proof, economical, and fair, seeing as you're going through repetitive pain from the pill. Also, if I'm correctly recalling a brief chat I had with my gynecologist, the health risks of the pill increase as you age.

This is why I don't want to get my tubes tied. Also, AF won't do it because I am too young. Stupid people.

And he seems to think it's basically a castration.

Army, I REALLY hope they say he can. I want off hormonal BC. It messes with me. I went with the Mirena cause according to my ob-gyn it was the LEAST hormonal BC, and I am horrible about remembering to take a pill.

Paraguard may be an option. I'm just afraid of the weight gain and heaving bleeding I was told goes along with it.

^^ You don't gain weight. It's hormone free, it's essentially just a piece of plastic with a copper wire wrapped around it.

And it's not a "castration" most vasectomies are done without scalpels these days.

Isn't there also a shot option now for men? Or is that just in trials right now? It's reversible, so perhaps the Army/Air Force would find it more acceptable.

Let him get a vasectomy. It's cheaper and in most cases it's an out patient procedure. Male pride? Umm what would be better you not having sex at all or him cutting the his own baby making potent sperm off?

Look this guy did this is what 59 seconds? So a minute per side? Stop putting your body through hell and get him an appointment. If he decides to reverse the procedure within a certain time frame he'll have about a 76% percent chance of getting someone pregnant. If he wait's 15 years or more then that could drop to 20-30% chance but it still beats a zero. BTW this is faster than a boob job and heals faster too.

Army Medicine is not for profit and very risk averse. The Military Medicine is typically years behind the civilian for profit health system. The Army is letting others do the risk trials and waiting on the publishing of funded studies. The Military did not embrace LASIK until after 2000 making that possible in the middles 00s.

If he is worried it is like castration, maybe you just need to show him some information on it or take him to talk to a doctor so they can explain it won't effect his testosterone/manliness or anything. I can see how it would be a scary prospect if you don't understand it.
If he's worried about the permanent aspect, he could freeze some sperm too.

I made my husband get a vasectomy.
Just because I don't really trust BC, plus, I don't want to forget it, gain weight, hormornal changes, etc..etc.
(not like we've had sex in 2 years anywayyyyyyyyyyy...but that's something else)

He was sore for a few days, but fuck, I've had 2 kids. He can handle a few days of pain.
and I realize this is evil, but I kinda enjoyed him being in pain!!

Personally, I'd try to convince him to get a vasectomy.

Yeah, from what my husband said all they do is go into the balls and pull some little tube or piece of skin out.
Then he comes home, throw a bag of peas on him, and he's fine.

Go ahead and look for information about vasectomies and show it to him. It takes like ten minutes, it only requires local anesthesia, and the recovery time is about three days. My dad had one in '93...that didn't stopped him from being a manwhore (he has never been a faithful man: good parent, yes but not a good spouse/boyfriend), so the whole "male pride" excuse is just BS in his part. My husband cannot wait to get his vasectomy done; we'll probably have one or two more children, and then he'll get it.

Yeah, go ahead and show him all the available information. He's either extremely stupid, or he wants to have more children in the future but I think is more of the first one than the latter.

My boyfriend has a vasectomy and is in the Air Force. Not sure if your hubby is in the military but one of the responders mentioned it for some reason so I'm assuming. My boyfriend only has one kid and could get a vasectomy but then again my boyfriend is much older probably.

I had the Mirena too and hated it. Made sex painful sometimes (when the guy would thrust maybe a bit too hard) but the no periods was awesome. Never had bleeding after sex except once. The only thing I miss is the no periods.

The copper IUD I've heard (from my gyno) causing heavier bleeding most of the time. Sometimes it goes away with time, sometimes it doesn't.

    Vasectomy = awesome.
    No BC = awesome.

How about you have the Mirena removed (or just say you did) and make him use condoms. See how long it takes until he's sick of that and ready for a vasectomy.

Make sure you're 100% about the vasectomy though. Now I have to have kids through a donor or IVF if I decide I want to have any with my boyfriend.

Yay doctor is going to do it!!!!

They're going to drug his ass up as well. Two Vicodin and some percocets plus local anesthesia and an additional muscle relaxant. Lmao I've never seen him drugged up it's gonna be hilarious.
