    Default "getting started" question

Hi, I`m new. I`m 20 and have wanted to dance for a year now.. took some classes last fall but incured elbow and knee overuse injuries so had to stop. I want to start dancing but I have a few problems/concerns...

    1. I still live at home. If i ended up telling my mom I`d feel awful because I know she`d worry about me... plus, no mom ever dreams of their daughter becoming a stripper.

    2. I`ve considered moving out, but I`m in debt right now. Owe my mom $600 (down from 2500, woop!) and NEED to pay 2700 (pt tuition) from last years tuition by the end of this summer, so I can register for this coming fall. Not to mention about $6000 for this fall/winter term; will be ft again. I make about $1200 working pt as a maintenance worker and doing residential cleaning. I read up a little bit on this industry and learned that strippers can actually accumulate additional debt if they dont do well, owing the club house fees etc.

Having said all that, I`m not sure if i should start stripping asap, or wait until the new year when all of my debts are paid off....

p.s. i only did one pole dancing level... can you practice before open hours on the poles at a club?

Hope you guys can help me out!!

    What I would do:

    1. Get a male friend to go to some of the strip clubs in the area with you. Observe the dancers. Look for a dancer that seems to have her shit together (well groomed, isn't drunk) Invite her to sit with you, maybe offer her $20 bucks and ask her to tell you about the club.

    2. Put together a nice outfit, jeans, heels, a dress, etc. Something you feel very confident in. After you have figured out which club you want to go to, call up and ask when they do auditions. When you arrive, ask to talk to management. Be honest* and say you have never danced before, but are looking to get your foot in the door. *It TRULY depends on the area you are in. I know some clubs ONLY hire veteran dancers, but majority will not turn away a fresh face. If you are pretty and well groomed, they will just see you as $$$. (also, if you want to PM me your area-- ive worked all over the country and may be able to steer you in the right direction)

    3. Telling your mom is something I wouldn't do, but it depends on your mom. I would say you are bartending/waitressing at a nightclub. They are the same hours as a dancers.

    4. Also, that is great that you have done some pole dancing but pole tricks are USUALLY not required at clubs. But atleast you will feel somewhat comfortable

You could just hide what you are doing while living at home while you make enough first. It won't make you feel the greatest, but make sure you pay your mom back first. Also, pole tricks aren't really that crucial. You can learn those as you go or don't, it doesn't matter.
