I just bought a pair of rollerskates. Ultimately I would like to be a roller derby girl but for now I'm just going to use them for hopefully weight loss inducing exercise. I was just wondering, does anyone else here rollerskate for exercise too?

I asked the same thing, asking for recommendations for skates. Did you buy a good pair of skates? I read that even if you buy a really good brand, it's still suggested upgrading the hardware and the wheels. Did you get inside or outside skates (density of the wheels)?
I love roller skating. I really want a pair.

Yay! I was so excited someone else likes rollerskating too I had to run out to the garage to get the skate's box so I could answer your questions! : ) Ok so I really don't actually know anything about rollerskates so I'm not sure if I bought a good pair of skates? They were like $50 and I bought them at Sports Authority. The brand is Roller Star 600 and I like them well enough. I guess I really need to do more research because I don't know about the wheels either. It says Polyurethane Wheels 608ZB G-Force Bearings. It says Roller Derby on the box so I'm gonna guess inside? In any case it's REALLY hard for me to roller skate outside because of all the pebbles and cracks and damn impossible for me to stop. I'm going to have to start making the hour long drive to the roller skating rink a couple times a week or something. And I'm pretty horrible at it too! I must look like I'm auditioning for The Walking Dead or something! Lurching forward, arms swinging, jerking back and forth.... It's still pretty fun tho and definitely a workout!

Oh my gosh. I'm so jealous. I love rollerSKATES. All I have are a pair of rollerBLADES. Mehhhh...
Tips: Get a better feel for your center of gravity. Don't be so rigid when skating--- rigidity can make you feel incredibly unstable. Make sure your knees are "fluid" and not locked. That should help you skate without zombifying-you-out. LOL.
Best of luck. Have fun.

I don't know if learning to walk on platform heels was the same for you, but I find rollerskating the same way--
glide forward with one foot, and slowly and lightly drag the other foot forward and repeat pushing off with the
front foot when lightly dragging the opposite foot forward.
You shouldn't have to drive an hour away. Aren't there any parks near you? Or, nice new grocery store parking lots
you can practice in at night (so long as it's a safe neighborhood and you feel you can stay aware and not have
anyone mess with you.)
So long as the upper (the shoe part) is comfortable, eventually you can trade out wheels. I'll see if I can find the
skate article I found previously that explained a lot of things I never considered.

i play derby, yes! girl do it! You will definitely tone Build your speed, muscles, endurance and when you go into rollerderby you will feel more confident. Eventually you want to skate outside..the best. NBe careful of rocks and be sure to get softer wheels than what you will be using for derby or what came with the skates.
