    Default $ For School...

Ok I posted this in Stripping General but someone told me it would be better here...I have to pay for my last semester of school next fall...around 7 grand. I know I can get 4 to 5 of it by the end of the year. However in my months of dancing I never got a license because I don't want anything on government record about me dancing because it could affect my future employment (because employers prob can find out about it whether it's on my resume or not). I have no issue paying taxes, it's just I don't want anything on record. So what should I do. About 3 grand is coming from other places (legit...no worries proving how I got it or tax issues). The other 4 they may ? So what should I do to avoid legal problems yet keep my job a secret???!!!

When I danced, I just filled out the independent contractor form and filled in "entertainer"

You're correct that, in the absence of having to obtain a 'dancer's license' , and in the absence of your club sending a 1099 automatic income report to the IRS, odds are that no direct paper trail will be created to show that you have worked as an exotic dancer. Generally speaking, non-chain privately owned clubs do not send out 1099's ... while chain clubs and 'corporate' clubs do !

Thanks, really appreciate the info. So I was wondering, my mom can claim me as a dependent until the end of next year. However I read that someone claiming you as a dependent can if they provide more than half of your yearly financial support and something about only if you make less than $3500 that year. So what do I do, because if I file taxes and it's more than that I don't want her to get in trouble or mess up her finances. She has no idea that I have done this for nearly a year and I expect to keep it that way. So what do I do about that? Because I want to file so I don't have legal issues...

if you're talking about earning 4 to 5 thousand dollars over the course of the entire year from dancing, plus another few thousand from other sources, I wouldn't worry about the 51% support rule. However, if you do allow your mother to continue to claim you as her dependent, when you file your own tax return you won't be able to claim yourself. As a result, the probable tax rate due on the money you earn will likely wind up being close to 25%.

Thanks girl you have been so helpful...so if I file my mom won't be able to find out that I did like a letter or something...or is it completely confidential?

so if I file my mom won't be able to find out that I did like a letter or something
All I can say is this. Your name and social security number will appear on your mom's tax return when she lists you as a dependent. Your name and social security number will obviously also appear on your own tax return. And your name and social security number will appear on an automatic report of tuition payments filed by your college's bursar's office. If either tax return happens to be selected for audit ... regardless of whether the driver for that audit is random selection or IRS computers seeing something 'questionable' ... odds are that the IRS will audit both your mother's and your own tax return. At that point, it's very likely that your own income sources will become a topic of discussion.

I see...so basically I'm screwed. Idk how I'm gonna pay for that semester unless I get a "legit" job and work that more for the next few months...so if the $ is questioned I will not have to bs an answer. Or think of something creative or move out. I'll figure it out...
