Exclamation Newbie In Sky High Heels? Can it work?

ive been looking through shoes and the best ones ive found are between 7 & 8 inches.. going to the club, 6" Jeffrey Campbell platforms make me feel like a giant.. but 6" dancer platforms feel short... weird.. But do you think its too early to start off in the sky high heels? I've tried on the 7 inchers and love them when i walked around in the store... very comfortable.. but weary about dancing in them and possibly breaking my ankle lol.. What do you suggest?

Yep. It works. I wore 8" shoes my first time. I loved 'em.

Try them on again and walk and dance around and see if you're comfortable. The first time I wore 8 inchers I fell flat on my face..twice..needless to say I've stuck with 6" heels for the last two years lol. Maybe buy them and practice around the house?

It depends a bit on your height and how your weight is distributed. The taller the heels, the less surface area you have to walk on. I'm 5'7" and currently weigh 135 muscular pounds. Walking in 8" heels is literally dangerous for me, much less dancing in them...and I have pretty damn good balance. I would start out with a 6" or 7" platform that has a wider base and see how those work for you. If you struggle a bit with those, then you have your answer.

Another piece of advice: don't invest in a bunch of different outfits and shoes until after you've danced for a couple of months. Partially because it's silly to spend lots of money upfront until you know that the job is a good fit for you. And partially because you won't know until you've danced a few times what sorts of outfits work for you and what don't. I made this mistake in the beginning, and now I have a bunch of cloth Victoria's Secret thongs in my drawer that I'll never use, along with random outfits I got from VS that would never survive in a club.

@BringontheMEn oh yea def dancer heels i just brought up JC's cuz those are my highest platform heels that i wear to go out and its just weird that i feel so huge in those.. but the same height dancer heels make me feel short

@Charlie61 yess im 5'5 and pretty damn thick especially my bottom.. my biggest issue are my feet cuz i have collapsing arches.. so when they're free they arch but once i walk it goes flat so i always have a hard time finding comfy heels in general.. the first thing i looked for in dancer heels was support on the sides and i mainly found those in the 7 and 8 inchers which is why im aiming for those.. but ill def keep looking. and good advice on the outfits! i only have one outfit right now... and not much money to start with so i dont wanna put all my eggs in one basket so im trying to stay simple. but i know dancer heels r a must so im looking to at least invest in that first

I started with 7 inchers and I was fine (definitely took me about a week to feel stable though!). I personally think 6 inches or less looks too short on a dancer who isn't at least like 5'10" lol.

Copious amounts of alcohol+newbie stripper+7 inch stilettos= sprained ankle and red face (my first time dancing)

I could never walk in heels before I started dancing so I started with 6 and worked my way up, but if you are comfortable going to 8 immediately and you can walk WELL in them, go for it! Have fun.

yea i went with the 7s the 6s were to short and the 8s were too high so i found a good median... very comfy too! i guess cuz of the platform to heel ratio but it feels good hopefully i dont bust my ass lol... and thank yoU!

tbh, I think that you should just get the shoes, get the costumes, get your ass to a club and start dancing. You have started so many threads about dancing and seriously. It's stripping. You are taking your clothes off for money. Crackheads are literally able to do this and succeed at it.

so stop writing threads and just dance.

ive just been writing threads to get advice especially cuz i thought we were entitled to ask as many questions as we felt. my mistake. its not just because its stripping, i research anything and everything i want to get or get into THOROUGHLY, even shoes, so sorry if that bothers you, but that's just my character. i know experience is the best teacher but i don't go into things blind either. i dont have any dancer friends and i dont want generic answers from google so i joined the forum to ask or get answers on w.e popped into my head. my audition is next week and i feel 10x more ready than i did last week so the threads served their purpose i would say

^I think her advice was very much just tough love. We've had a huge influx of newbies on here recently who are overthinking the job when they could be out there getting money. My impression is that she's giving you a little verbal kick in the butt, like "Get out there and start raking it in!"

I didn't have SW when I started, and I did juuust fine, though I definitely made some serious outfit mistakes along the way. You're already way beyond where I started in terms of information, so I'd agree with LSadie. Buy some shoes. Buy an outfit. Start dancing. Adjust as needed. Rinse and repeat.

lol i figured.. im not taking it harshly... im just explaining why i started so many. ive overcome the overthinking part and just being myself at this point... if its something im new to i tend to ask alot of questions if i knew ppl personally it would be all in one shot; it may be annoying i know but its just how i am sometimes in that aspect. it worked tho loll !

I started out wearing 6" boots that I already owned, but quickly bought my first pair of stripper heels from another girl- pink glitter 7". I cannot count the number of times I've fallen in those, and in several heels since. On a funny note that some girls, especially newbies might like to consider- walking and dancing in those heels are two VERY different things. Just cause you're good at one does NOT mean you're gonna be able to do the other.

Ironically, my ability seems to work in the opposite direction one would figure. I actually DANCE better than I can walk in them. I've had people say it's probably just because I have a pole for support- it's not. I can do a free standing dance in my favorite 7s with zero problem, then fall flat on my ass the moment I turn to walk away. (Actually did that once, while dancing on cam for a friend.)
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.
